I do believe it is Independence Day for my Northern living crew. I hope the day was filled with family and friends.

I also happens to be the 24th anniversary of this fleet forming. Yes we've been around THAT long, there are a handful of us who have been around since those early days.

One second Patin stood at Rhenora’s shoulder, the heat of battle humming through a ship that refused to die. The next, the pressure vanished. Sound thinned. Light stretched. The bridge, the smoke, the bodies, the urgency of it all pulled away like breath leaving lungs that had forgotten how to hold it.

Patin stilled. Her eyes shifted once, sharp, already knowing. “...Ah,” she muttered, low and almost amused. “There it is.” She acknowledged they had finally crossed some invisible line.

The deck plates of the raider vibrated in uneven pulses, a low, agitated hum that traveled up through feet and into bone. Consoles flickered in sickly bursts of light, then dimmed again as if something unseen pressed against the ship’s systems and refused to let go.

The USS Sunfire drifted through the asteroid field with wounded grace, her great hull moving on fading momentum as the last of her shield envelope collapsed into darkness. A ripple of failing light rolled across the ship’s surface before vanishing entirely, leaving only the cold gleam of emergency illumination flickering through scattered viewports.

Several weeks have passed since I reported aboard the USS Sunfire. The distinction between days has already begun to erode, replaced by duty rotations, alert tones, and the constant vibration of the engines through the deckplates. This is a familiar phenomenon. I have experienced it before. The recurrence is… notable.

Assuming the role of Chief Medical Officer has proceeded with fewer complications than anticipated. That does not imply the absence of scrutiny. At 1427 hours, Deep Space Nine signaled priority contact. Colonel Kira Nerys appeared on main viewer. Her report was short and to the point: the replacement control satellite had passed all station-level diagnostics and was ready for handover. Requested Sunfire to retrieve, position, and complete final activation protocols. Authorization codes transmitted and verified.

The transfer to the USS Sunfire is still pending. The ship hasn't arrived at Deep Space 9 yet, and so I am left to wait. I've been spending my time in my quarters, staring out the window at the endless parade of vessels docked at the station's ring.
