I do believe it is Independence Day for my Northern living crew. I hope the day was filled with family and friends.

I also happens to be the 24th anniversary of this fleet forming. Yes we've been around THAT long, there are a handful of us who have been around since those early days.

Fiji disappeared in an instant, replaced by polished deck plating, recycled air, and the steady heartbeat of the warp core beneath their feet. It felt strange how quickly paradise became memory. The Fijian islands and people had worked its magic, unwinding months of tension in a short week. The days blurred into a relaxing rhythm of sun, breeze, food and sleep. It came without asking, they walked slower, talked slower, allowed things to come and go without bother. Several weeks have passed since I reported aboard the USS Sunfire. The distinction between days has already begun to erode, replaced by duty rotations, alert tones, and the constant vibration of the engines through the deckplates. This is a familiar phenomenon.
