I do believe it is Independence Day for my Northern living crew. I hope the day was filled with family and friends.

I also happens to be the 24th anniversary of this fleet forming. Yes we've been around THAT long, there are a handful of us who have been around since those early days.

Morning arrived quietly, filtering into the room through a softened gradient of light that replaced the clinical brightness of the night before with something gentler, though no less controlled. Rosa surfaced into it with a steadier awareness, her consciousness rising without resistance this time, settling into her body as if reacquainting itself with familiar territory that still carried new limits.

Consciousness returned in weighted layers that gathered before meaning formed. Rosa surfaced through sensation first, her body asserting itself with quiet insistence as awareness assembled around it. Weight settled across her chest and limbs, dense and grounding, while breath moved through lungs that resisted depth and demanded care.

The air tasted dry and sterile, carrying the faint trace of antiseptic that lingered along the back of her throat. A low mechanical hum threaded through the space, steady and measured, joined by softer tones that rose and fell with clinical precision.

Several weeks have passed since I reported aboard the USS Sunfire. The distinction between days has already begun to erode, replaced by duty rotations, alert tones, and the constant vibration of the engines through the deckplates. This is a familiar phenomenon. The transfer to the USS Sunfire is still pending. The ship hasn't arrived at Deep Space 9 yet, and so I am left to wait. I've been spending my time in my quarters, staring out the window at the endless parade of vessels docked at the station's ring.
