I do believe it is Independence Day for my Northern living crew. I hope the day was filled with family and friends.

I also happens to be the 24th anniversary of this fleet forming. Yes we've been around THAT long, there are a handful of us who have been around since those early days.

The Badlands burned. Plasma rivers twisted through towering walls of ionized gas while electrical storms stitched brilliant veins of white across crimson clouds. As she left the bathroom the extraction system swiftly removed the steam from the room, leaving their vision unencumbered by the moist air. The smell of cooking food overtook the scents of the bath. Breads, proteins and condiments mixed deliciously with the opulent atmosphere.

The Sunfire's viewscreen showed DS9 from their close perspective, the hulls of the other 4 ships only just visible around the docking ring. They were to ship out shortly, but Rhenora wanted to be sure they were ready.

Several weeks have passed since I reported aboard the USS Sunfire. The distinction between days has already begun to erode, replaced by duty rotations, alert tones, and the constant vibration of the engines through the deckplates. This is a familiar phenomenon. I have experienced it before. The recurrence is… notable.

Assuming the role of Chief Medical Officer has proceeded with fewer complications than anticipated. That does not imply the absence of scrutiny. At 1427 hours, Deep Space Nine signaled priority contact. Colonel Kira Nerys appeared on main viewer. Her report was short and to the point: the replacement control satellite had passed all station-level diagnostics and was ready for handover. The transfer to the USS Sunfire is still pending. The ship hasn't arrived at Deep Space 9 yet, and so I am left to wait. I've been spending my time in my quarters, staring out the window at the endless parade of vessels docked at the station's ring.
