Mission:
Halloween
Location: Castle
Timeline: Current
The 'something' that was coming was one of the energy beings masquerading in its current form as a witch, complete with tall black hat.
"And what is this? A buffet!" It exclaimed, finishing off the sentence with an evil cackle. "You are weak without your trinkets, but your energy will feed us for a long long time."
Patin didn't wait for a command to fire from Savar. Taking the information of this 'witch' as a threat, she raised her weapon and fired thrice. The projectiles passed through the being and into and through the walls beyond. This intrigued Patin more than the witch who suddenly screeched and then rushed forward into Patin.
All of the torches went out. The door slammed shut. A green light emanated from Patin as the 'witch' enveloped her body. There was a moment as everyone held their breath, unsure of what to do, then Patin shuddered and the entity left almost as fast as it entered.
They stood looking at each other quizzically, before the entity spoke, "What are you?"
Patin smiled, "Bitch, was it, I am your worst nightmare."
"Patin, Are you alright as in unharmed?" Savar asked as he watched the energy withdraw from Patin's body.
Without looking at Savar, keeping her eye on the hat touting thing in front of her. "Just peachy. Damn thing was in m'head and I don't think it liked something. Felt cold though, like death itself." Patin answered honestly.
Kit was intrigued by what she saw, she instantly began recalling everything she had learned about embodied energy lifeforms. She knew that they were classified under non-corporeal lifeforms. All the data Starfleet Science and Federation Science had on non-corporeal lifeforms indicated they were to be treated with extreme caution. She believed that this one was in a category of non-corporeal entities that either derived sustenance from its environment or emotions of humanoid lifeform.
Kit spoke up "Commander Savar I believe we are encountering a non-corporeal creature that derives sustenance from both its environment and the emotions of humanoid lifeforms. Patin's rather unique mentality most likely was very distasteful to it." Kit figured Commander Savar had already come to that conclusion, and she knew she most likely had offended Patin, but she had a duty to inform the commander of her observations.
"Patin? What did it do to you?" Ronson asked as the being hovered above them as though deciding where it was going next. It hadn't liked Patin's flavor, and was attempting to figure out if the rest of the team were equally as distasteful.
"I don't know how to describe it." Patin shrugged, "Sort of like tendrils in my brain like it was trying to read my mind." While staring at the now fully anthropomorphized green glowing witch that floated above them, she took a long deep drink from her flask.
Suddenly the blob shuddered then darted towards Ronson as it decided to try again, this time with a different target.
Ronson raised his weapon and fired towards the creature, his face still shocked as the energy passed right through it. It collided with his brain as it entered him, wrapping it's tendrils through his subconscious in a warm embrace. His eyes flashed green and the colour faded from his face. "Well hello there" he said in a sultry tone.
"Well, if that ain't creepy." Patin said as she raised her weapon and pointed it at Ronson. "Just say the word boss," she indicated Savar. Patin had no reason not to shoot Ronson as it was clear there was a creature inhabiting his body and clearly a dead body would not be worth the possession, right? Of course she stayed her hands until an order was given.
Savar glanced at Ronson, and he could tell the man was under an alien influence. "Stun him Patin. Perhaps the creature will either leave the chief's body or be trapped inside it. Where we can devise a way to safely remove it."
Patin didn't have a stun setting on her weapon, though she did have a stun grenade and a question, "What's to stop it from possessing someone else?" She asked as she pulled a stun grenade from her back belt pouch.
"An excellent question Patin. My answer is I don't know. However, I am not to the point of killing Chief Mitchell."
"Well, neither am I, currently. Can't say the thought hasn't crossed my mind though." She activated and tossed the grenade at Ronsons feet, then looked away expecting everyone else to do the same. When the flash went off it caused vision, and a mental state stun lock in anyone looking at the flash.
Ronson dropped like a fly, eyes open and still shaded with green as the being rolled around inside his mind getting as much information as it could. When it found nothing more of use it exited through the poor man's nose and ears. Hovering above the away team it looked at them in pity.
"Who would have known your Captain likes her coffee at 98.7 degrees centigrade and her personal access code is Kaylen 85 Tango Alpha. Such useful knowledge to have." The being cackled. Overhead the storm rumbled, thunder cracking around them. "Such a delicious energy you lot are, much more satisfying than stored plasma lightning. You will sustain us for a long time!"
"Patin, Theis, Leone. I will entertain any ideas you have on how we defeat this creature." Savar addressed the other away team members.
" You cannot defeat us. We have survived off of the inhabitants of this planet. Consumed them one by one until everything was gone. There were once many more of us, but the lack of sustenance diminished our numbers greatly. Those that survive have done so for thousands of your years. " The evil being floated higher overhead. The sounds of the castle being locked up could be heard. The team were trapped inside.
Patin listened intently until she had what she was looking for, then a smile spread across her face. As she calculated her throw, she pulled a different sort of device from her pocket. This one was less of a bomb and more of an implosion grenade, designed for removing at the atomic level, various states of energy. They would have to be several feet from the implosion and there were no guarantees. She waited for someone to question the smile on her face.
Savar complied with Patin's unspoken request. "For what reason are you smiling Patin?"
Kit knelt down to check on Ronson at the same time replying to Commander Savar question. "Commander, if we were on the Sunfire I would say hit it with the Plasma Fire suppressant foam we use. The chemical composition of the foam could in theory disrupt the non-corporeal form, sort of a stun setting." She looked up when Commander Savar asked Patin why she was smiling.
"Unfortunately, that option is not available to us Ensign." Savar replied as Patin answered his question to her.
"Because; the thing just told us they can die. Which means we can kill them," She paused as he pulled the implosion grenade into view. "With your permission?" Patin asked Savar.
Savar nodded, "Permission is given Patin. Let us hope your idea works."
Ronson groaned as he slowly regained consciousness. "Ugh, worst trip ever" he grunted as he rolled and tried to control the contents of his stomach.
"It's about to get a hell of a lot worse, that crazy Bajoran is about to try something extremely dangerous." She said as she grabbed Ronson and helped him up and directed him to a table. She forced the dazed Chief under it, then covered his body with her own to protect him from the oncoming event, the smells of cinnamon, roses, and vanilla with the occasional lilac wafting off her.
Tossing the grenade at the apparition, Patin called out just before leaping to cover, "Here, hold this for me." The energy being above of course could not catch, but just as the grenade passed through its outer aura, there was a sudden shift in atmospheric pressure. All of the sound, wind, and other flowing energy sources in the vicinity, suddenly rushed towards the center of the implosion.
One could count the number of heartbeats in the interval, one, two, three, and then a pop, and all of the noise was back to the way it was, minus one floating energy being. The walls of the castle seemed to rebound with the change in energy and were starting to show signs of decay in the vicinity of the blast. It was as though the castle itself were held together by the beings and their pure energy. Somewhere in the distance, a terrified scream pierced the silence.
Kit rolled off of Ronson and muttered under her breath, so only Ronson could hear, "A bloody implosion grenade. What the hell next is that crazy Bajoran going to do?" She rolled to her feet and offered her hand to Ronson to help him up. "Sorry about the shove then dropping on top off you."
Savar got back to his feet after lying down behind a staircase. "I would say your grenade worked Patin. It at least harmed the creatures."
"Yep, shame I only had the one." She admonished as she brushed off the dust and cobwebs lingering from her cover spot. She took a swig from her flask and thought about lighting up but thought twice given her company. "Now what?" She asked in earnest knowing they were still locked in and now dealing with a hurt and or pissed off spook.
The energy within the castle shifted, turning from curiously hungry to pissed off but yet still hungry, tinged with a touch of fear. Not one of their kind had been killed in this manner for thousands of years. They had considered themselves immortal.
"What have you done?" A menacing voice from above threatened. "You cannot defy us!"
