10 - Behind Enemy Lines

Posted on Thu Oct 31st, 2024 @ 5:12pm by Commander Jenna Ramthorne & Remal Kajun & Patin & Captain Rhenora Kaylen

Mission: The Beginning of the End
Location: Bajor
Timeline: Current-ish

Hillside Forest just beyond the cabin

Sound is what finally brought Patin and Jenna to slow. Murmurs, the talk of hundreds of people, tended to make some noise. Patin crouched and brought herself in low behind a thick series of brush. She motioned at Jenna to listen ahead.

Jenna could already hear them, and what some of them were talking about. A few of them were already celebrating their victory and what they planned to do after. One loudly proclaimed his plans for debauchery which caused several others to join the cheering, while others began hushing them. Some of them were clearly being cautious.

Jenna whispered to Patin, "We need to find a way through or around. There is no way we can fight this many together."

Patin scowled, "I vote through. We don't have time to go around. I'll take the group on the left, you go right, kill them all, take no names?" She was clearly in a hurry.

"We won't get very far if we're dead and we certainly won't be of any help. Think, how are we going to push through?"

Patin scanned the large group again, shaking her head she looked like a person on the verge of exploding from the inside outward.

Two figures materialised in the centre of the group, Faro again touching the device on her wrist just after to reactivate the scattering field. Their ace was to inhibit anyone from transporting, except themselves.

"It is time!" She announced loudly to the assembled thugs. "The Ma and the Fa are holed up in the cottage, her Progression has begun. Our time to move is now. Follow the plan, do not deviate, for the future of Bajor depends on your actions today!"

The roar filled the forest with a resonating energy. Jenna tried to calm Patin by touching her arm, "Not yet." She said simply.

Patin snapped her a dirty look, "She said Nozzie was Progressing. That means they are going to attack her while she's giving birth. I've heard of some sick and twisted shit, but..."

Jenna was sympathetic and just as ready to step in when a voice shouted over the din. "Oy, losers! You're following them to your death!" The voice was coming from a small holding area surrounded by guards and trees. Jenna didn't recognize the voice, but Patin did.

"Zio." She said simply as she recalled the fighting one legged woman from the jungle. "She's an ally."

"Well, that helps, a little..." Jenna admonished.

A small rumble of discontent rolled around the thugs, who in turn jeered Zio. There were a few who didn't though, they'd heard enough, seen enough to know things weren't as black and white as Faro and Brin proclaimed.

"What we need is a distraction." Jenna implied as she scanned around for something useful.

Patin, on the other hand grabbed the lower third portion of her shirt and tore a strip off. She then wrapped the strip around her face, covering her mouth which made her look more like those in attendance surrounding Brin and Faro. She couldn't be sure they would not recognize her so this would help. Finally she moved closer to Jenna, "Sorry about this, but as you are not Bajoran..."

Jenna sensed movement but was not prepared for the fist as it struck her in the mouth down to her jaw line. It took a second of reeling for her to understand what was happening and once she did, she wasn't happy but played along anyway. "The hell?" She said loudly enough for someone else to hear.

"Who are you?" Patin demanded, standing over Jenna, her fist raised for another strike. "Were you sent to spy on us? Come on, out with it?" She stood and kicked Jenna in the shin. "Get up!" At this point a few of the other Bajoran Brotherhood had moved closer to their location in order to see what was the commotion.

Jenna raised her hands in resignation as she stood, knowing her part now was distraction or bait depending on their enemy. She gave a theatrical glare at Patin as she passed and started walking towards what they had perceived was the leader of the rabble.

Patin, still performing her part, walked like she belonged there. She took Jenna by the arm, while holding a knife into her rib cage. When Jenna hesitated, Patin provided a little poke, a visual shove and an audible "Keep moving maggot." The crowd parted and the snow continued to fall through the tree line making the ground slick with a nice coverage.

Brin still imbued with the Pah' Wraith watched as the tall crimson haired woman was ceremonially walked towards him, with a singular curiosity. His attention, which was briefly on Zio was now fully reserved for the newcomer. As they approached to within earshot he spoke first, "Ah, now what have we here?"

Patin replied, "Caught a snooper, off-worlder by the looks of her." Patin lifted the rifle off her shoulder by the strap, "Took this off of her. Starfleet issue rifle I think." She smiled broadly, "She's all yours." Patin gave Jenna a shove which Jenna took and used to drop to her knees in the snow. Patin stashed her knife and waited briefly until she was no longer the center of attention, becoming invisible as the others turned their attention to Jenna.

Faro recognized the red head from the Sunfire's manifest that had been gleaned by one of the DS9 operatives. "Well if it isn't Commander Ramthorne. Protecting your little Captain are we?" Her voice was dripping with sarcasm.

She turned back to the mob. "Starfleet have sent their senior most experienced officers to protect them, but look! We have captured one all ready!"

More cheering could be heard as the thugs nodded and slapped each other on the back as though they had done the work themselves.

"Throw her in with the other one, and give me her weapon. It would be ironic that the blast that kills the Ma comes from a Starfleet rifle.!"

Two pair of arms grabbed Jenna on either side and abruptly ushered her off towards the pen they were keeping Zio tied up in. The rifle was handed off to Faro who thrust it in the air, soliciting another crowd reaction. Patin meanwhile had slipped into the crowd and was taking something that resembled pellets of bird seed out of her pockets and spreading it around the ground. The snow immediately absorbed the bulk of the bird-shot.

She was half done as she made her way backwards through the crowd towards the holding pen in a more round-a-bout fashion, when one of the Brotherhood called out to her. "Hey, you there, what are you doing?"

She stopped and gave him a menacing glare, her face still partially covered. "Just spreading some bird seed. I've been homesick for my domesticated friends." She sort of lied. In truth her 'domesticated' friends include her horses and some spider like creatures the size of a face.

"Domesticated?" He questions with a chuckle. "The only thing I miss that's domesticated is my spouse. I haven't asked her to make me a sandwich in weeks!" He proclaimed.

"Sorry to hear that." Patin responded sarcastically. "Perhaps if I ever meet her I can share my recipe for humble pie." She then dipped out of the conversation and continued to spread her bird-shot pellets around the ground. Just about the same time she ran out, she had arrived with her back to the holding pen.

Jenna was forcefully shoved into the holding pen where she stumbled in the snow but remained standing. She gave Zio a glance to indicate she was friendly and then waited for Patin to arrive at the edge of the pen. "Hi. Name's Jenna."

"Zio. I take it you have a plan?" She asked.

"Sort of. More her than me." Jenna said nodding to Patin. Which Zio had just noticed for the first time.

Remembering the woman from their flight for freedom in the Southern caves, Zio replied with worry in her voice, "Oh, just lovely. Well, this should be fun."

Jenna whispered to Patin, "What are we waiting on?" No sooner had she said it when the local village bells began to ring.

"That." Patin announced with certainty.
