Mission:
The Beginning of the End
Location: Bajor
DS9 - Shuttle
The three women ran into the shuttle bay one after another. There wasn't much left in the way of shuttles other than the one Runabout and it looked like someone had been working on it. "We need something fast. He was clearly trying to stop us from getting down there."
Kira grabbed a discarded PADD next to the workman's satchel. "The Rubicon, it's engines are fine but the weapons are 'glitchy'" She read. "Could go either way but we're out of options" she strode forward and thumbed the control.
As the hatch started to open, Jenna ducked and made her way in, "If she's got engines I can fly her." She said as she sat down into the pilot's seat. Patin clamored in and sat behind her. "You're going to want to buckle up." Jenna told Patin even as she began the preflight checks.
"Skip the checks, just fly. I'll open the hanger doors" Kira remarked, smirking slightly at the preflight protocol that was ever so ingrained into these Starfleet ones. Back in the day there were no checks, if it flew it flew and you had to work it out on the way.
The huge hanger doors slid open, revealing the swirling blue of the Temple in full glory. Even the spectacularly brilliant display of colour seemed tempered with discord, as though the Prophets knew what wsd coming.
"Let's get out of here. Patin, see if we've got anything to fire with if anyone takes some pot shots at us" Kira ordered, giving the resistance fighter something to do.
Patin turned and opened what she suspected was a weapons locker next to her. Inside she found a set of phasers, a set of tricorders and a phaser rifle. There was also a med-kit and a hypo syringe. She took the weapons and passed them out, keeping the rifle for herself. "Who wants to play pretend doctor?" She asked.
Jenna lifted the shuttle off the deck. The Rubicon creaked and groaned as though she were resisting the effort to fly. Having dealt with stubborn shuttles before, she ignored the noises and simply tightened her belts. "Here we go."
Kira stashed the weapons and took the tactical seat in the cockpit, trying to find if the shuttle had any weapons at all. Typically, they were online one minute and off-line the next, making them unreliable at best.
The shuttle lifted out of the bay and was barely beyond the safety threshold when Jenna aimed it at Bajor and hit maximum thrust. The shuttle launched, begrudgingly, at full impulse. It was still a long flight, taking just over an hour to get to Bajor and down to Drakkar Province. Did they risk taking her to warp inside the solar system?
The wormhole outside remained open, glaring at them as they passed. Patin stared back, wondering if the Prophets were blessing them or warning them. In her case it always seemed a bit of both. "Do you suppose they already know what's about to happen?" She asked Kira in the silence of the shuttle.
The pause was long as Kira thought about the question. She had her own questions about faith and the Prophets but had always remained true. "I believe they have seen the future, they foretold it, and now it will happen. Everything that has happened so far with the Emissary was foretold, they will not interfere with what will happen." Kira replied, glancing at Patin.
"Just cause we don't like the outcome doesn't mean it isn't for the good of Bajor as a whole". She mentally slapped herself after hearing how trite the words sounded. "We are all pieces on the game board, only the Prophets already know the final score. We must do what we think is right"
"You, uh, you've been in space too long haven't ya? Gone soft hanging out with the Starfleeters? Which cookie did you pull that little nugget from, eh?" Patin questioned with a joking chuckle even as her own thoughts turned back to the Prophets and their visions. She had been shown a vision, one she did not care for, but one in which every fiber of her being knew was coming true, and soon.
" I may have gleaned a thing or two during the reckoning a few years back" Kira shrugged as she turned her attention back to the task at hand.
The next hour's journey was spent in contemplative silence. Jenna fought keeping the shuttle moving forward. Kira was in her planning phase, trying to figure out what they were up against. Patin was mentally trying to count the explosives in her pockets, as usual. She fought the need to smoke, hard.
