Derna - Fourth Moon of Bajor
Zio looked out at the night sky via a large view portal. In the distance she could see the Celestial Temple. Normally on a night such as this the Temple would open and close a dozen times over. But this night, for reasons not yet known, the portal had remained opened for several hours. After receiving the call from Remal and now seeing the Temple, she was convinced the time was coming soon.
Her teenage children had already been sent to stay with a close relative and the shuttle she had requested was being prepped for departure. She understood her role and was prepared for the fight that was to come. Her only worry was whether or not she could make it in time.
Her children didn't fully understand, especially her son who had matured significantly since the encounter in the caves. He had been practicing his shooting skills and hand to hand combat against Zio's wishes. So when she announced they were staying behind, he argued his desire to go too.
This was enough to break Zio's heart. "You are good enough." She proclaimed. "But I simply can't risk losing you."
"But I want to fight!" The teenage boy had rebelled. "I want to fight for what's right, like you did, like you taught us to do."
She placed a hand upon his shoulder in sympathetic understanding. "This is not your fight and this is not your time. Be patient, please, your fight will come, in time." Her tears flowing to show how much it meant for him to stay and let her go.
The service attendant entered from the departure pad. "Ma'am, everything is loaded and ready for departure."
This pulled her from her reverie. "Alright, I will be right there." She spoke absently, her eyes still staring out into the void. "At the first sign of snow, peace shall be found within." She recalled from a long forgotten dream, to herself. Turning away from the portal she cross the station "Let's get this show on the move, shall we?"
Pah' Wraith Movement - The Final Directive
"You know what must be done, for the good of Bajor. Now you know what must be, for the good of us." He finished, as her eyes stared back at his in disbelief. Repeating he stated simply, "You are the only one I trust with this. Whether we succeed or fail, you must be the one to end my life, my death will allow the Wraith to live. As it was shown is how it should be." He spouted his rhetoric mumbo jumbo once more as if that would help.
There was a mixture of shock and disbelief. "Why have you withheld this from me? The Prophecy said the Wraith would come forth at the conclusion of the battle..." Faro struggled to wrap her mind around it. "It didn't say that a Bajoran would embody..." her mouth opened and closed and she dropped to her knees to worship her God.
She understood correctly, he was to be a blood sacrifice. If he had told her before, it would have shaken her convictions and he knew it. "The master will inhabit the babe and my path will be complete. I could not divulge this information before now, and you know why." He reached out and touched Faro upon the chin, delivering a cold, yet warm touch, like touching a cold flame. "Rise Faro, show me your conviction in this final directive and I shall show you a future like no other." He was prepared to show her his vision which until this time had been solely reserved for Brin.
She rose but would not meet his eyes, her own downcast in deference. "I am yours to command" she bowed her head. She risked a glance at the face of the man that had been her rock and stay through this endeavor. "Thank you for sharing this with me. I am humbled and privileged"
"You have been deemed worthy." The Brin / Wraith reached out and touched her skin once more. This time it channeled energy into Faro one that caused her nerve endings to burn intensely for a hot minute before surrounding her with total darkness.
Her vision blurred, then blackened before returning to a misty hue, images not entirely sharp but easily discerned filing her eyes. Bajor was blackened, millions lay dead where they fell, smoke rising from large Pires where the bodies were burned by the few that remained.
"Behold! The future of Bajor. The war will claim those that are not faithful and true to us, leaving only the Wraith and those who follow us. We will rebuild this great home in a vision true to ourselves. Cast aside those that do not follow, for soon they will perish and meet their False Gods and the true God of Bajor, the Pah Wraith rightly take their place!"
Between the fire, the endless destruction, and the death one thing remained constant throughout, Faro saw herself standing there, alone. This was a test of conviction, she understood that, but she had always felt in the end she would still have Brin as her companion and confidant. She had vowed to love, cherish and follow him until the end but had never imagined a day where his end would come before hers. And now she was being tasked with ending his life for their Prophet. Knots within twisted as her conviction faltered ever so briefly. And then, like having the air taken out of her lungs she found herself back in reality.
Faro stumbled as the world slammed back into focus, still reeling from what she has seen. The death, so much death, the villages burned at the mountains blackened with the blood of Bajorans. This wasn't how she imagined it, but if she were true to herself was there really any other way?
Words failed her for a few moments as she processed everything and tried to rationalise it.
" I can't do this alone," she said simply. For the first time since they had begun, Faro now had concern niggling at the back of her mind.
