Mission:
Paranoia Nebula
Location: USS Sunfire
Timeline: Current
[Bridge]
Commander House was sitting in the Captain's chair so she directed her questions to him. She glanced at Finchley and gave him a quick wan smile. “Captain, I would appreciate notice or at least an explanation as to why you have beamed Captain Savar to my sickbay.” Her determined voice wavered as she held onto the nearest station to save herself from falling. She could also feel her symbiont was also in some distress. “Captain I also want to release Aurora from her restraints so she can sit with her husband, she will remain confined behind the force field. Her knees trembled but she pulled herself upright, Sir?”
"Because he's been infected or possessed by whatever had Aurora. I was given notification of that, Doctor. So, keep him under lock and key, and no, by any means, do not let anyone near him. Obviously, it can pass from person to person. Perhaps the field will not stop it."
“As a medical professional and your Chief Medical Officer I am telling you we have to do our job and that means looking after Captain Savar and any other crew member that has been infected.” She turned, “and did anybody try flooding the hull with infrasound as I suggested?”
Finchley, seeing Niali was in some discomfort, walked over to her from his console and helped her to a nearby seat so she could be more comfortable. Helping ease her into it, he smiled at her then returned to his console.
She stood to leave the heavy air of discomfort on the bridge casting a small smile towards Finchley and shuffled out into the turbo lift.
[Sickbay]
As Niali had left sickbay Dr Wilson began running scans on Savar, trying to prove or disprove the theory that there may be a creature within him. Having been stunned he was currently no threat, however, if he regained consciousness that may be a different matter entirely.
" Aurora, please.... let me work on the Captain, I need to compare both of your neural scans to ascertain what exactly is going on" Sarah spoke as she ran various scans on the Captain.
Niali re-entered sickbay a few moments later breathing heavily.
She noted Dr Wilson was hard at work. “Anything yet?” She asked and smiled.
"Not yet, I'm still trying to run a deeper series of scans" Wilson replied as she pulled up the latest readings.
Savar moaned and his eyelids fluttered as he struggled to come awake. The creature had momentarily moved into the back of his mind as he struggled to maintain control.
Niali had been wrestling with her conscience for a while trying to make up her mind what to do about Commander House, she knew she had to make up her mind fast. She made up her mind. “Dr Wilson I am going up to the bridge to relieve Commander House of duty, what he did was reckless in the extreme. I am sorry to leave again but I have to do this."
"Ahhhh are you sure doctor? Your vitals are still low..." Sarah shouted as the door closed.
She hobbled out of sickbay once again wishing she had an antigrav stretcher to ride on. Outside the bridge she stood up took a deep breath smoother her uniform and walked out of the turbolift once again onto the bridge.
[Bridge]
House glanced to Ronson. "Status of the mines and the entity."
Bonnie entered the bridge and nervously announced herself, "Hi.? I was told to see if you needed help seeing as most of the crew are still recovering, um," She noticed Dean in the center seat and understandable thought to herself that shit really had hid the Bussard Collectors. "Captain?"
Niali did not look anywhere but at Commander House. “Commander House as Chief Medical Officer I am relieving you of duty for the following reasons that being you are unfit for duty due to the following. You did recklessly shoot the Captain without ascertaining that the entity had indeed taken him over. Said weapons fire could have endangered other bridge crew. You did not warn or make any attempt to communicate with Captain Savar. That is a dereliction of Star Fleet protocol. I am confining you to your quarters or sickbay or indeed the brig if you choose. If you refuse to leave I will have security remove you.”
There was a glance given over to Bonnie first when she got on the Bridge. "Sorta, I suppose. There's been some issues."
Dean glanced to Niali, "Sorry but you can't really do that right now while we're in the middle of a combat situation. You need to be in Sickbay to start with Doctor. So in terms of engagement, I can have you escorted back down there, or you can go on your own."
"Actually Captain" Finchley looked round at House "the Chief Medical Officer can remove any officer or crew member at any time no matter what the circumstances are. If the CMO can prove said Captain is deemed unfit for duty, I'm afraid Lieutenant Korial is quite within her rights to remove you from duty according to General Order 104, Section A. Regardless of our current situation, you must stand down or she can have Security remove you Sir."
Niali tapped her comm =/\= security to the bridge=/\= she stood silently looked at Commander House her face one of steely reserve. “Commander Finchley are you able to take over until Captain Savar has been deemed fit by myself?”
This was all moving so fast it was almost frightening. Finchley blinked a few times, almost having to rest himself before replying "Eh, well, I'm, I'm the...Second Officer, so technically next in line, but, yes...I, I, I can do that I believe" he finished.
A security team arrived on the bridge. Niali looked at them. “Please escort Commander House to his quarters and detain him there.”
Commodore S'thenosis had heard enough. When they started throwing her scriptures around as though they were bread crumbs for the birds, it was time to step forward. She moved two steps into play, her height making her a clearly visible target. When she spoke there was an aire of authority which carried with it ages of bookish education. "I have seen quite enough, out of each of you. Rarely have I ever seen such discourse within the ranks of a Starfleet crew. It is my personal opinion that; despite this infrasound and your ongoing efforts to stem the effects this angler of a fish has created, this fish clearly has its claws in the crew of this ship."
She eyed Niali, "Am I to understand you were injured and are currently partially sedated with an analgesic?" She continued without alloying Niali to respond, instead turning to House. "And you, without warning, without explanation, you claim you somehow just knew Captain Savar had fallen prey to, what, a mental infection.?" She glared at Ronson. "And you, not authorized nor qualified, yet somehow you managed to fire a torpedo."
She finished by looking at Finchley, "Subsection A has many sub-clauses that... " But she didn't get to finish her statement as the ship shook. The creature had latched onto their starboard Nacelle and the ship rocked. There was a metallic tearing sound reverberating throughout the ship. Power circuits overloaded, sparks sprayed from consoles, lights flickered and then went off. An EPS conduit blew on the bridge raining steam down upon them. The shit had indeed hit the Bussard Collectors.
Niali fell opening her wound, “try playing infrasound through the hull if it worked inside we might as well try,” she shouted in the hope someone would listen to her. Blood seeped through her fingers. She pulled herself up on the back of Finchley’s chair. “WELL” she shouted. “Commodore please order them to try it?”
Bonnie fell into an Engineering station and started pressing buttons. "Structural integrity failing on starboard nacelle. I'm shunting all drive plasma and rediverting flow to the port nacelle." She then glanced at Niali and thought quickly about how to implement her idea.
Then nodding she started reconfiguring the deflector dish. "Reconfiguring the deflector to emit a low-level pulse wave through the shield harmonics. This will generate infrasound, albeit a limited one, like a shell around the ship." She stopped and looked at the center seat where there was still confusion as to who was in charge. "On your orders..."
S’thenosis nodded, despite not being in charge of bridge commands, this situation called for some semblance of control.
Bonnie pressed the button. The power levels throughout the ship dropped momentarily as the deflector charged. It then fired a beam into the surrounding shield structure and resonated like a shell around the ship. The creature, in a moment of pain, pulled away quickly, taking the nacelle with it. But like a giant squid with its catch, it moved off and away from the Sunfire.
S'thenosis watched it leave before asking the obvious, "I trust that wasn't a necessary part of the ship and we can return to some sense of order around here?"
