I do believe it is Independence Day for my Northern living crew. I hope the day was filled with family and friends.

I also happens to be the 24th anniversary of this fleet forming. Yes we've been around THAT long, there are a handful of us who have been around since those early days.

The Joint Terraforming Observatory had been constructed in a more hopeful era, when Threxian engineering and Virelli bio-science had not yet hardened into rival doctrines. It rested upon a barren moon whose native surface could not hold air, much less sustain life. The atmosphere that now shimmered faintly above its basalt plains was entirely artificial, maintained through a delicate partnership of Threxian containment architecture and Virelli atmospheric flora housed within those structures. Steel and chlorophyll, alloy and engineered respiration, fused into a single ecological system that neither species could sustain alone.

T’Lar spent the rest of the shift doing a deep dive on as much biographical information as she could find on Marie Batel, taking a short break for a lunch of plomeek soup. As her official duty hours wound down she elected to take some time for her own mental health once more.

Captain Marie Batel awoke in the dull ambient lighting of sickbay. Being the only patient the lights were dimmed when she sleeping, which was a fair chunk of time as her body readjusted to it's new old state.

Several weeks have passed since I reported aboard the USS Sunfire. The distinction between days has already begun to erode, replaced by duty rotations, alert tones, and the constant vibration of the engines through the deckplates. This is a familiar phenomenon. At 1427 hours, Deep Space Nine signaled priority contact. Colonel Kira Nerys appeared on main viewer. Her report was short and to the point: the replacement control satellite had passed all station-level diagnostics and was ready for handover. Requested Sunfire to retrieve, position, and complete final activation protocols. Authorization codes transmitted and verified.

The transfer to the USS Sunfire is still pending. The ship hasn't arrived at Deep Space 9 yet, and so I am left to wait. I've been spending my time in my quarters, staring out the window at the endless parade of vessels docked at the station's ring.
