Genesis - Fungus Amungus

Posted on Wed Apr 2nd, 2025 @ 10:24am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Jenna Ramthorne & Commander Dean House

Mission: Masimal
Location: Masimal

The USS Sunfire slid effortlessly into orbit around Masimal, a non Federation but friendly planet that the Federation had trading agreements with for many years past. The Masimal had requested a geomagnetic survey to be done, with their own equipment unable to be finely calibrated enough to detect exactly where the current series of Earthquakes and volcanoes were stemming from. They were a warp level society, but had directed their attention outwards, rather than inwards towards their own planet. Thus they had requested aid in rendering some continents stable enough to continue habitating and farming from.

"Helm, advise once we have achieved a polar orbit. Ops, hail the planet on their known frequencies." Captain Kaylen Rhenora ordered as she sat in the Command Chair once again. It felt good to be back in the centre of the bridge, in the brain of the Sunfire and the heart of her crew. Commander Baldric was still on board but for this mission would serve as mission advisor.

"Polar orbit achieved" the Helm announced, followed by an awkward silence that would normally be Ops confirming communications.

"Ahh...no reply from the planet to our hail" Ops said after a few more moments, frantically running a diagnostic on the communications array. "Checking...transmission was OK, either they're not receiving it or they can't reply"

"Odd, when was their last Federation contact?" Kaylen asked, swiveling in her chair to eyeball the young officer.

"Ahh....one moment...." the officer stammered, ran the necessary searches and after a beat replied "3 months ago"

"3 months" Rhenora echoed, feeling very much as though something was amiss. "Keep trying to hail them, and in the meantime, I want a full analysis of that planet. Every thing we know from the past compared to what our sensors show now. All senior officers to meet in the briefing room in 4 hours to go over the results."

"That's not going to work." Dean stepped off of the turbolift. Not even needing to check his station. "I've been busy, there is some type of epidemic happening, or has happened. That part I don't know." Giving a soft smile to Jenna.

"How?" Kaylen asked, rising from her chair and looking at Dean.

Dean gave a cute little facial expression, "Well because there was a warning beacon about it. They don't know what it is, but it's something."

Jenna ran her fingers across her sensor relays, "I'm not seeing any sort of warning beacon in the area?" She relayed her information. "Was this transmitting on classified channel?" She asked, while throwing Dean a questioning look.
