The Mrs. glared out of the side of her eye at Rhenora but did not respond immediately. Instead she maintained composure to the letter. A moment passed where the growl fizzled into silence. "For speaking out of turn, seven lashes. One for every word uttered without permission."

The guard stepped forward with the cat o nine tails, each of its 'tails' tipped with a barb designed to inflict maximum damage where-ever it contacted. He didn't bother to strip his victim, finding a perverse pleasure of his weapon striking the kneeling woman in front of him.
"One" The barbs tore through the tunic as though they were sharp knives in hot butter.
"Two" The woman before him bit off a cry as they embedded into her back and were then arbitrarily yanked free.
"Three"...
By the time the seven were delivered Rhenora was bent over on her hands and knees, breathing ragged and using sheer will alone to avoid crying out in pain. She hoped that the display would satiate the Mrs' thirst for revenge for the time being.
Savar, his head lowered was still able to cut his eyes in Rhenora's direction and see her kneeling next to him as she was lashed. He heard the ragged intake of air as she fought to control her breathing and any lapse in her control to keep silent. As the lashing was finished and Rhenora was left gasping for breath he raised his head, looking directly at the Mrs. said clearly, like the ringing of a bell. "I pity you."
Rhenora looked at her 2IC with a warning in her eyes. It did not bode well to goad she who at the moment held all the cards - including the aces and jokers.
"Ha ha ha ha ha," she laughed a twisted yet femininely laugh. As she stopped she looked directly at Savar. "Pity is for the weak. As the humans say, the cards are stacked against you, not me. And, that will be three lashes for speaking without permission."
Remal had remained rather quiet as he watched his wife whipped without mercy. His weary mind was devising a way out of the mess he had now delivered himself into with no regrets. There was one card he held which could either help or make things worse depending on how he played it. He just needed time to observe their adversary as something more than simply evil.
So far he could see, she was hurting, seeking revenge yes, but this was more. This was her job and she relished the chore that was given to her. No, she chose this position. Sure it was a family farm, but when things went dry she stayed, by choice, why? He needed her to open up some more, ever the counselor he risked retribution by speaking.
"Water please?" He asked knowing his words would each prompt a lashing so he had to keep the attention short, but on himself. He instantly felt his wife's eyes upon himself, pleading with him to shut it.
It was enough to garner the Mrs' attention. "Water? You want water? Oh my, have we truly broken you so easily?" She stepped towards Remal just as the whip was brought down upon Savar's back.
Remal eyed her, "Not really, I just wanted to spit in your face, but my mouth is dry."
Her eyes grew large and her hackles raised visibly. "Insolent prick! How dare you after I welcomed you into my home with such grace." She gestured to the surrounding room. "You will suffer for this and I will enjoy every minute of it."
He had been on his knees but now he mustered every ounce of strength he held onto, slid his leg forward onto his foot, then using his balance, pushed up, bringing his body into a full upright position. He stood, towering over her as a way of intimidation. His eyes squinted at her, "Still waiting on that water. I guess tipping the waiter isn't happening." He smiled.
