Jump Start - Its Electrifying

Posted on Fri Jan 6th, 2023 @ 9:40am by Senior Chief Petty Officer Ronson Mitchell & Lieutenant Commander Thriss Kla'ren & Ensign Kitiuas Thenis & Lieutenant Thomas Haldeman & Lieutenant Commander Bonnie "Bon-Bon" Durnell

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: USS Sunfire
Timeline: Day 2 - Late Evening

Thunder rumbled around the Sunfire, flashes of yellowy green lightning illuminating the sky like a lightbulb in the dark. Ronson looked around Engineering as a particularly close strike caused them all to jump a little.

"Close but not close enough" he murmured as he watched the gauges over Thriss' shoulder.

Down to her undershirt, once again, Bonnie was left without sleeves to roll up. Still, she grabbed a spanner and a tricorder and moved to the nearest service panel. Inside she found a mess of wiring and connectivity. With a great sigh, she set to work fixing and repairing as much as she could in order to get the ship in flight once more.

The next bolt hit the sails square on, sending a hot rush of energy into the now reconfigured system. The crack of thunder was almost instantaneous and had Ronson reaching for his ears. Nearby EPs relays blew out in quick succession and smoke billowed from a console.

"Did it work" the Yoeman asked as the noise died down.

Bonnie had just managed to pull her hand out of the service cabinet a second before the strike hit. She felt the charge zap her hand as she pulled back. Giving a look around she proclaimed, "Not yet. One or two more like that though..." She left the statement open ended. She was waiting on Thriss to finish what he was doing, but she noted the charge percentage was nearing 100%. "Lieutenant, if we are going to do this, the time is now."

Ronson felt like a pimple on a pumpkin between the two Engineering greats and settled for careful observation of anything and everything. "Just tell me if you need me to do something, I'm flying blind here" he admitted. Above them the storm raced, another two strikes hitting the hull in quick succession.

Thriss was working on setting up the console to initiate the jump start. He was about ready. He spoke to Ronson without looking back. "In the event the eps conduit in the console shorts we may need to divert to a backup. Think you could set up a backup just in case?"

" Yep, can do" Ronsons headed to the console and pulled himself under it, tools jammed into his pocket and started to work. Another bolt of lightning hit the sails, the following thunder was deafening. Ronson dropped the cable just before a surge of current ran through it.

He looked at Ronson and then at Bonnie. He tapped the console a few times before he just had one button to press to hopefully jump start the core. "I'm initiating the start. Brace yourselves for anything."

The Chief Engineer pressed down the button and waited.

A moment later there was a deep rumbled from within the heart of the Sunfire, it's depleted systems whirled with the influx of new energy. EPS conduits blew in all directions, relays overload but the red and blue heart of the mighty Sunfire began to thrum with a new life.

Ronson covered his face as the console above him rained down in sparks, singeing his hair and uniform. The decks began that subtle vibration he knew and loved.

"Chief - you did it!"

Thriss looked at the core in awe. It wasn't everyday that he could watch the core start up, let alone in this manner despite the fact that he was the Chief Engineer.

He looked at Ronson and then at Bonnie. "It wasn't just me. You guys had a part to play too."

"Call it a team effort then. Shall we run a few diagnostics then find some Tucker? I'm starving" Ronson declared as his stomach rumbled.

"Diagnostics are probably a good idea. I could really use some food myself" the Chief Engineer agreed as he began to examine to console make sure it wasn't damaged any more than it probably had been.

"I'll start a standard set and we can grab some grub while they run. "Ronson announced, helping Bonnie from under a console Nd following the small group back to what was left of the mess hall.
