Bridge Crew - Part 3

Posted on Tue Jul 5th, 2022 @ 3:07am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Lieutenant Ashlesha 4827/A & Ensign Kitiuas Thenis

Mission: New Harrington
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current

The Captain waited, cautious of any signs that the virus had moved beyond what security measure they had already put in place. Without any power to that station and secured behind a force field, she hoped they could hold it at bay until Lt Durnell could return to deal with it. Until then, they had to hope and pray they had contained it. With now two away teams off the ship - they needed to be able to react swiftly and with peak efficiency.

Ensign Thenis again examined the strange prozoa computer virus. Something was niggling the back of her brain. She looked closely at the virus hoping it would come to her. It suddenly came to her, a story her stepfather had told her about the Orion Syndicate having freed an Orion Borg Drone and how they were planning on using the nanonites. Looking at the virus she now understood why it had the chlorophyll signatures. Was it possible the Orion Syndicate succeeded in developing a weapon using an Orion Borg Drone? She was not a doctor so it would require someone with medical knowledge to determine. "Captain, I know this may sound strange, but is it possible someone could have found an Orion Borg Drone and weaponized the nanonites?" she inquired, hoping not to have to explain how the idea came to her. The scent of cinnamon, roses, vanilla, and a hint of lilac now very noticeable around her.

"Anything is possible Ensign" the Captain replied sagely. Years in space had taught her just that, anything and pretty much everything was possible is someone wanted to make it that way. "Keep working on your theory and see if you can find a solution. We need to be able to pull the away teams back if we need to"

Personally, Ashlesha would have preferred to have beamed the offending piece of equipment off into space, but the captain's quick thinking seemed to have done the trick.

"Transporter two reports it is up and running again," Green reported from the Ops station. Grey turned to the captain and said, "Lieutenant Durnell might have an idea regarding the nature of the virus or how to handle it. I will let you know once I know more, sir."

"Very good Ensign, keep at it" the Captain replied, turning and heading back to the centre chair. It was odd seeing one of the workstations dark and unresponsive. She hoped they had contained the virus and starved it of its ability to migrate.

"Can you confirm a transporter lock on the Anesh away team?" She asked, trying not to prioritise her husband's safety. The weather platform's sheilds were still up and that team was trapped until they could get the shields down.

"A moment..." Ashlesha green murmured. Then nodded, "We have a lock, if necessary. I can repurpose transporter room one quickly in case they need to be beamed back aboard...but there will be a delay if the transporter is in the middle of a refugee transfer."

"The safety of our crew must come before those we are attempting to rescue. We can't help people if we're dead." The Captain replied with a wry smile as she recited one of the old sayings from the emergency services of old.

Thenis thought for a moment then made a request "Captain can we transfer this virus to my science lab on deck four. We can initiate the transfer and I can then set up a force ten forcefield and examine the virus in greater detail. It appears to have an organic mass and therefore we should be able to isolate and beam it to my lab." She hoped the captain would agree as she would need all the equipment in her lab to start her examination in its entirety. After all her lab was a xenozoology lab and therefore had the necessary equipment for her to analysis this virus/code.

"The question on my mind is, how did it get on board if there is organic mass?" Ashlesha Gray asked aloud. Then she shrugged and continued, "Durnell is going to attempt to draw the virus away from the communications system. As for Thenis idea, "I think it's our best course over here, sir."

The Captain was cautious in her approach, the risk of the virus getting out and infecting more systems was high - and if it did it would hamper the rescue and relocation efforts going on at the moment. " With the lack of power to that station, I think we have the virus contained for the time being. Do what you can to study it here without risking further outbreaks" The Captain ordered before turning her attention back to the viewscreen. She opened a channel to the away team at Anesh and waited for Remal to answer.
