Mission:
For Bajor!
Location: DS9
INFIRMARY
Within the dark walls of the DS9 station infirmary, the medical team worked their magic, repairing broken bodies. Baldric was stabilised but remained for monitoring while her burns and concussion were treated. Kit was also stable. Dean's life hung in the balance, awaiting a life-saving blood transfusion from Commander Ramthorne.
Back in the depths of the Infirmary, the medical team was assessing how much blood Dean would need. "400ml, possibly more" was the final decision as they eyed Jenna. "We'd need to start her on plasma to rebuild her blood volume," another doctor added, "oral electrolytes as well to prevent hypokalemia," a third chimed in before they all turned awkwardly to face Jenna. "Ahh, did you get all that?"
Jenna was led into the chaotic infirmary interior and offered a bed next to an unconscious, partially clothed Dean House. Commander Baldric was on his other side, just out of the way of the surgical team. Ensign Kitiuas Thenis ie-Jia'anKahr was being worked on at her own station in the corner, her injuries not as severe.
Curious, mind full of questions, but willing to do whatever it took to help, regardless of the rules or regulations that governed Augments, Jenna unfastened her cuff and rolled up her sleeve. A nurse stepped forward and prepped some tools. Jenna joked gently, "He, uh, won't end up with any of my personality traits or anything right?"
The nurse smiled, "It doesn't work like that. Besides, from what I know of Mr. House, his stubborn personality would override anything that entered his head."
"Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. Have you met me yet?" Jenna asked.
Kitiuas was floating in grey clouds, she heard and felt her daughter and her needs for her, but she was all warm and fuzzy, easier she thought to just give in, perhaps she would see her beloved Drauc. She wanted to but for some reason the distant crying of Astraea kept her grounded here in the grey mists.
MEDICAL WAITING AREA
"You think? The virus or the rest of it? And who got hold of it?" A dozen different questions all battled for priority in Kira's strategic mind.
Bonnie processed, expecting to be accused and hauled away in chains. "I can't know for certain, but the code that was used felt like mine, or at least something I would have written. Numbers to everyone else, but familiar to me." She spoke while contemplating what she was actually saying. "Then there was that voice."
"A voice?" Kira's attention was undivided now, her entire being focused on Bonnie.
"Um, just after the explosion, when they were hauling Kit and Dean away, someone was behind me, telling me to get my shit together. She mentioned the virus and working for someone. She told me to ask who would stand to benefit from what they've done. Her voice sounded almost just like mine when I talk to myself in the mirror. Which of course, um, well... I don't do that all the time, just, you know, when I need a pep talk or something." She smiled and then hid her face.
Kasso waited quietly as she listened to the women. She remained still and projected a sense that she was not there, just a shadow on the wall. The information she gathered, she would pass on to her father; whom she knew would be contacting her cousin and the Ganzu Cajun they belonged to. If revenge was called for, then it would be handled by the Thenis clan; she knew this in her heart. No one harmed one of them without facing their vengeance.
INFIRMARY
In one of the side rooms Kit was having her wounds treated, one of the staff taking the time to carefully cleanse and close one to ensure there was no infection. "Would you like another analgesic?" The nurse asked.
Kitiuas heard a thundering voice from somewhere in the hazy, grey mist she was in "Would you like another analgesic?
Kit thought ~Why would she need another analgesic? What she needed was her daughter, Astraea.~
Kit murmured brokenly, "Kasso bring me Astraea, she is upset and needs me," before drifting off again.
The medic looked at her strangely before putting the pieces of the puzzle together and heading out into the antechamber. "Kasso?" She asked, looking at the other Orion in the room.
Even though Bonnie hadn't been addressed directly, her ears perked up with a familiar name, saw the source and absently pointed in Kasso's direction as though the green-skinned Orion wasn't obvious enough.
"Come with me please" the medic motioned deeper within the Infirmary."Ensign Thenis is asking for you"
INFIRMARY
In the depths of the Infirmary, Baldric had had her main injuries treated, leaving Dean receiving the blood transfusion, and the doctors healed the rest of his body.
"Can I?" Baldric motioned towards where Dean was. "We were close," she feels as though she has to justify her request.
"Umm... keep it brief," the medical replies, and escorts her closer.
"We're losing him!" The Doctor shouted, attaching another stimulator to Dean's forehead.
"Please...please don't you die," Jen kept to Dean's left, as the doctors were working on his right. She kissed him gently and felt an odd surge of energy. She didn't understand what it was or if it was from her or him, but it was enough for her to stumble back, earning her a glare from the technician.
There was still no heartbeat for a good long moment; however, the longer she kept the touch, there was that spark of energy. He'd not felt anything this deep since Chloe, his dead wife.
The medical team were still watching the monitors and then had to step back even farther when they started to spark and a rain of sparks all around them. The equipment and monitors weren't exploding, but they were certainly shorting out.
Just as Jennifer pulled back, Dean's chest rose. Taking in a long breath. The odd event calmed down, and his heart started to beat again. While his eyes were still closed, he uttered one phrase, "I'm.... not.... leaving you..."
The medics rushed forward to finish their work with renewed vigour, not wanting to look this gift horse in the mouth. "Vitals are improving...looks like the transfusion did the trick." They'd switched from watching the monitors to using the tricorder sensors, having had most of the other equipment in the immediate vicinity short out. There were many questions, but no time to ask them.
"Damn straight you're not," Baldic returned, holding his hand and trying to keep out of the way. She felt odd, but couldn't place it.
Jenna stood up, her transfer tube falling away from her arm as if she had suddenly ripped it away, stared at Dean and Jennifer for a long moment. The silence was extended before she finally asked, "What the Hell was that?" Blood was dripping down her arm but she was focused on the two in front of her and the broken equipment surrounding them.
"I....I dont know" Baldric seemed stunned still, as though not comprehending what had just happened. She left Dean's side and grabbed a swab from a nearby trolley, placing it on Jenna's arm and holding it there with enough pressure to stop the bleeding. "Thank you, for donating your blood. They say it saved his life," she said quietly.
"It was the least I could do, really, the only thing." Jenna held the swab in place knowing she would heal quickly. "Besides, Rhenora would have my ass if I let a crewmember die on my watch." She shuffled her feet, the color of her face pace. "Now, theatrics aside, know where a girl can get a tall glass of OJ around here?"
Weakly, "You know..we have replicators for that. Jenna? Thank you. You as well, Jennifer." Dean let out a long breath, taking in the room. "What the hell happened to Sickbay?"
"Ahhh, that I believe was you." Baldric headed to the replicator for a glass of orange juice for Jenna, handing it over before looping back to Dean. "You somehow blew out all the eps relays in here. There was some kind of energy discharge," she held his hand again. "It felt... weird," she hadn't meant to share that last part but it slipped out as the medical team continued to work. "They say you should make a full recovery in time. Jenna saved your life."
"I did? Wait. The kiss. You did that and blew up all of the monitors." It was pretty easy for Dean to see even without sitting up. "Jenna. I owe you big time then. Thank you, from the bottom of my black, weasily heart." Giving a little smirk. "Let's go get this bitch." He tried to sit up, and that was not working. Granted he was alive, but he has not healed from the wounds yet. Mostly his spine. "Well, that's great...."
"Yeah about that, best let the Doc's finish their job now that you're not trying to die on them," Baldric retorted, wiping a tear of relief from her eye. There was so much that was unexplained that she didn't know where to start. From the virus to the saboteurs, the fight and fire, and now death and life, it was a lot to unpack.
Jenna downed her small glass of orange juice before leaning in just so Dean and Jennifer could hear. "Just to let you know, they were not allowed to replicate my blood, hence the old-fashioned transfusion. Said something about being classified, which makes sense. There is a distinct difference from being genetically modified versus being an Augment who has been genetically modified... blah, blah, blah."
She grinned. "Just know you are now a very unique individual." She raised her empty glass, "Cheers. And you owe me only the return of the favor should I ever be in your position."
Baldric was surprised but said nothing, keeping her expression neutral as she digested that particular pearl of information.
"Yes, you are. Thank you. Both of you." Dean smiled and rested his head back. "I"ll be more thankful when I can walk again."
MEDICAL WAITING AREA
Kasso looked to her mother as she listened in to the conversation. She decided to slip back over to Layas, ensure she was okay, and get her up to date on the situation. Silent as a wraith she extracted herself and walked over to her mother. Layas was slowly starting to feel better; the nausea was gone, and the headache was tolerable.
Kasso knelt in front of her mother. In rapid, low Orion Yrevish; a version of the Orion language she was sure the others would not know, explained what was happening.
The medical team let the family have their reunion, Kit now being out of danger and the worst of her injuries treated. One of the nurses popped by a short time later with a tray of light snacks and a glass of water.
"Please, have something to eat, the Doc says you need to keep your strength up."
Outside the medical bay a woman in a long dark cloak strode forward, her garb not unusual in such a high trafficked space station. Hood drawn over her features she saw two women sitting in the waiting area. Their involvement in the mess evident. The woman continued moving towards them, not direct enough to arouse suspicion, but to allow her words to be clearly understood.
"Next time, you won't be so lucky. There will be consequences"
