The End

Posted on Mon Apr 24th, 2023 @ 2:33am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Lieutenant Commander Thriss Kla'ren & Lieutenant Commander Bonnie "Bon-Bon" Durnell

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: Sunfire
Timeline: Day 12

It hadn't been the glorious liftoff they had all planned. The Botany Bay had relayed the condition of the Sunfire back to Command who had sent a pair of 'tugs' for lack of a better description to tow the ship back to Starbase 67 where she would be undergoing repairs. With the majority of the ships interior airtight the crew could travel with their ship, however many areas were still uninhabitable, one of those was the Captain's quarters.

Rhenora was still on the bridge when the tractor beams took over from their own thrusters, and felt a little useless. There was plenty of things to yet be handled, yet she felt as though they could wait until they got to Starbase. Turning to looked at her Chief Engineer.

"Will she hold together chief?"

"Yes ma'am" he tapped on his station to configure more readouts. He looked at the CO. "In fact if need since we aren't using our thrusters at the moment we may be able to reroute the power from the thrusters to the shields for a safer ascent."

"Please do so" The Captain commented as the ship shook a little as it rose through the atmosphere. The two tugs preceded the Sunfire through the clouds, their blue tractor beams doing the majority of the work to get the ship back into space.

The Andorian pressed a few buttons on his console to begin routing the power. After a few seconds he tapped a few more buttons to send the power to the shields. "Power has been rerouted Captain. Shields should be getting more of the power now."

The shuddering eased just a little as the shields were bolstered and Rhenora relaxed the grip on her chair, exhaling in relief as they cleared the stratosphere.

"Good work chief" she commented as they finally broke free of the planets gravity, the two tugs setting a slow and steady pace towards Starbase 67.

"The Hercules and the Arthur Foss have both signaled a synchronous lock and have radioed to suggest we 'sit back and enjoy the ride', Captain." Bonnie announced before stifling a yawn. "Captain Morselles is hailing us Captain." Bonnie wasn't sure why she had remained on the bridge, but most of her repair team had as they wanted to see their hard work through to completion perhaps.

"Open a channel" The Captain replied as the Botany Bay took up a position alongside them.

Bonnie pressed a series of buttons and the face of the Botany Bay captain appeared on the cracked screen. "Good to see you Captain Kaylen. The Botany Bay will stay by your side on the way to Starbase 67. We are still close to Cardassian space and I do not look forward to a stand off if they decide we are easy pickings. Just let me know if you need anything, okay?"

"We appreciate the escort Captain, as much as the Cardassians have been fairly quiet as of late, it's a little too quiet for my liking. We'll keep an eye out but as you are aware our weapons are limited and our shields aren't the best." Rhenora replied, feeling the all too familiar twist in her gut at the mention of their familiar foes.

"Well, we will do our best to get you home safe, Morselles out." The channel closed and the screen went dark, saving that extra bit of energy. They were on their way, all the dinosaurs one could experience now behind them. Bonnie let out a yawn she could stifle no longer.

"Repair team, you are relieved. Go get some much needed rest, it will take a two to get to Starbase and we will again your expertise" Rhenora smiled in thanks to those that had worked so tirelessly to get the ship back in the air.

Not wanting or needing to be told twice, Bonnie signed out of her console and stood. She gave a respectable nod to the Captain knowing they would talk about the saboteur at another time. Once sleep had been had. Then raising her head up high, she walked off the bridge looking for a soft bed and eight hours of good sleep.

"And Bonnie, good job" Rhenora called after the young ensign as she departed the bridge, allowing the appropriate praise to be public knowledge in recognition of the teams hard work.

As he had just been relieved, Thriss too logged out of his console before paging another engineer to take his spot on the bridge. After that he walked towards the lift and entered. As the doors were closing he nodded a thank you to the Captain. As the lift descended, he reflected on the past few days. He was happy to get off of that rock. More importantly, he was also determined to get a good nights rest and some food before that.

Rhenora watched as the Repair team left, and she turned the ramshackle bridge over to the Gamma watch skeleton crew for the next 8 hours, looking forward to getting some kip herself. They'd all been through the wringer over the last few weeks, and they all definitely needed some rest. In two days they'd arrive at Spacedock 67, and they'd need to assist in the repairs in conjunction with some rostered down time. The crew rotations could wait until tomorrow - there was sleep to be had.
