Healing

Mission:
Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: Medical tent
Timeline: Early day 7
It was early the next morning that the Captain made her way towards the medical tent. Sleep had been hard to come by and she'd given up somewhere around 4am, sitting outside in the darkness of the predawn and watched the stars recede from view to be replaced by the Reds and golds of a spectacular sunrise. She had promised to see Dean in the morning and hopefully bust him out from Dr Wilson's care, depending on his healing of course.
It was just after 6am when she entered, the smells of cooking breakfast wafting in as she entered. She kept her movements quiet lest Dean and Sarah were still sleeping.
Of course Dean wasn’t asleep, he had however, kept to his word. Having stayed there and on the bunk. For the most part. Sometimes he had gotten up here and there to just walk around a bit. Other than that just do some reading or listening out for any problems that could have come up.
“Good Morning Captain” Dr Wilson yawned as she emerged from the small sleeping area at the rear of the medical tent, looking as though she could use a few more hours - if not days - of sleep.
“Good Morning Doctor. Did your patient behave himself?” She asked innocently, casting a wary eye over at Dean and almost anticipating the answer.
“ A model patient, I was surprised, he’s free to go after I finish running some scans this morning” Sarah smiled and went off in search of coffee.
Rhenora turned her attention to Dean, who was looking very innocent on the bunk. “Model patient huh?” She quipped.
Dean gave a little shrug, with a smile. “What can I say. I did nothing much at all.”
“Given what Sarah said I’m inclined to believe it. Wonders may never cease” She laughed as she headed over to his bunk, dropping onto a random stool next to it. “You gave us quite the scare back there. I honestly didn’t think we’d be sitting here this morning having a conversation”
“What fun would it be if I were predictable?” Leaning up a little on his elbows. “Okay, I did look over the original scans while the Doc was asleep. We technically shouldn’t be sitting here right now, at least not this way.”
“ Technically” The Captain emphasized “Technically you should be six foot under with a pretty plant on top with an ‘Ode to Dean’ on your headstone.” The words hung heavily in the air like a thick and dense fog. “I’m glad your super human body pulled through again.”
“I’m pretty sure it would say something more like ‘Stupid pretty boy.’” Chuckling a little bit, “Well to sate any concerns. I wouldn’t have if it weren’t for that.” Holds a hand up, “I know, that’s not an excuse.”
“Isn’t that what Bonnie calls you?” Rhenora asked quietly, raising an eyebrow “Have you told her what happened?”
Dean nodded, “It is what she calls me, and no. I was going to try to call yesterday but then all that went down, and it was a little more important than wasting the comm power.”
“I think we can afford to waste just a little comm-power. I think you should let her know, before the scuttlebutt gossip gets to her and then she would get cranky.” She replied gently as she took in the rising sun through the open tent flap. “ I can’t wait to get off this damned rock, I feel like it’s eating my soul”
“I’ll do it when we finish up and I leave out of here, then.” Leaning to look at the open flap also. “That’s because it does eat souls, in a manner.”
“Souls, people…” There was a shrug borne of many years of hardship long in the past. Sarah returned a few minutes later with a cup of pseudo coffee, her nose wrinkling at the taste.
“It’s better than nothing” The Captain quipped at the Doctor’s discomfort. “I believe Dean would like his freedom.”
Instead of moving, Dean just layed back down, “Except, our dear Doctor here, said she wants to run a last set of scans and the like first.”
“ I heard you, and I won’t keep you long,” Sarah laughed as she set down her coffee mug and picked up her tricorder. “Promise.”
“I didn’t figure you would.”
True to her word the good Doctor ran half a dozen tests and scans in the time it took for the Captain to drink her coffee, declaring Dean able to continue his recovery in his own tent and to 'take it easy' for a few days. The Captain scoffed a little at the comment but mostly kept quiet, knowing that if she said anything Sarah would point that tricorder at her.
"Go, before I change my mind" Sarah retorted, pointing at the tent flap and releasing him from her care.
Dean watched her carefully, though not because he doubted her work. He simply wanted to watch the scans coming up and what she was comparing his readings to. Pushing his legs over the side and standing up. Kissing her cheek as he went by, “Thanks Doc.” Stepping out of the tent and giving a long stretch.
Sarah watched him go with a bemused expression, sipping the last of her now almost cold coffee and marveling at her own handiwork. “One day I should write a paper on this” She mused as she headed back to the rear of the tent to tidy up after the previous day’s surgery.
“Perhaps you should indeed” Rhenora remarked, allowing a moment to pass for Dean to absorb the morning sunshine before she exited the tent behind him. “It’s a beautiful day, I didn’t think you would get to see it… or any”
“Between you I and the dirt, for a bit, neither did I. I accepted that fact when joining, as well as, if it saved everyone else…well..” Dean lifted his shoulders up and palms facing up as a bit of a shrug/there it was motion.
"Go grab some rest in your tent, regain your strength. I fear we may need it again soon unless by some miracle the repair team can get the ship back in the air." Rhenora commented, shielding her eyes from the sun.
Dean tilted his head a little bit, “Rest? That’s all I've been doing. How about something else I can do.”
"You've rested for a day, another one won't hurt you. Besides you don't want to undo all of Sarah's good handiwork. You're off duty until tomorrow." her words were firm but kind.
Nose crinched a little, it was cute. Or maybe to some it was. “Well if I don’t, it’s not exactly like you can put me in the brig.”
"Mark my words Dean, there will be a brig soon enough" and with that, she turned and left him to his own devices.
