The Resurrection

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: USS Sunfire
Timeline: Day 8

Energy. With the beaming in of engineering teams left and right, the atmosphere on the Sunfire turned to pure energy from the little hope they had been clinging to. between Bonnie and Thriss, mostly, while not excluding Tom, Kit or Ronson, they brought out Bonnie's scheduled plans and delegated what needed done in order to get the Sunfire airborne again.

With the engine churning away, the computer CORE needed booted and many of the systems still needed repaired or reinforced before the ship was capable of sustainable flight. But, they were close. Replicators we're coming online along with transporters; everything was looking to turn up roses. That is until Bonnie was handed a report with news to churn her stomach. She immediately turned to the others.

"Okay y'all, listen up." She waited for their ears before continuing. "The Botany Bay took a geological scan of the Sunfire to see how likely it will be to lift off and the found the reason why we came to a rest at an angle." She showed the scan on the cracked monitor. "Turns out, our right side engine pylon dug in to the earth and is buried under ten tons of granites and other rock formations."

"If we attempt a vertical take off we will likely rip the strut from the ship and die in a horrible explosion." She sighed giving everyone time to let that sink in. "Right now, we are exploring our options but we might have to have a tow backwards or have to shift some rock before we can leave." She said, finishing on a down turned note of frustration.

Tom accepted the news stone faced. He was silent for a moment before turning to face the others. "No." He said then repeated it "No. we've worked too hard and come too far to be stopped by this news. We WILL get the Sunfire back into space. Just going to take a little more work." He said .determinedly.

"Can we use the phasers to cut our way out? I know it'd be a super tight angle...but I'm sure we could pull it off. Or use the Botany Bay to drill through it?" Ronson suggested, unwilling to be defeated this close to the finish line.

Thriss piped up. "Theoretically we could use phasers. However, depending on the placement of the rock we need to cut in relation to our phaser arrays, it could be a challenge. If that doesn't work, we could always use the Botany Bay's assistance."

"That's what I'm talkin about" Ronson whooped. The repair team, although tired beyond any means they had endured before, were determined to get this mighty ship back into space where she belonged. "How soon could we try? Do we have weapons back online?" The rapid fire questions were a product of his excitement.

"With the added help of the engineering team we can put more focus towards the weapons and possibly get extra help" he paused to scratch his chin. "Ideally we could get them back up within the hour. As long as the damage to them isn't too severe that is." The Andorian looked at Ronson and then to everyone else.

"We started this job and it isn't finished until the Sunfire is back in space. It's a matter of pride." Tom spoke to the others with a determined edge in his voice. "Need to check the targeting sensors as well." He added.

" So...an hour... and targetting sensors...maybe" Ronson smiled, sensing the growing energy of the team. "Tell me what you need me to do."

"Aside from needing a second set of eyes for anything I might overlook, if we have more than one person working on the damage, then we will get done a lot faster and be able to get free sooner" he answered Ronson's question.

"I volunteer for whatever it is you need me to do, or to hand you, or try to fix, or hold something...whatever. I just want to see everyone's faces when we appear over the horizon." Ronson grinned like a schoolboy.

"You and me both Chief" Thriss smiled and stopped to think of where to start.

Ronson nodded and picked up a tricorder - happy to follow Thriss around like a puppy, assisting where and when he could

The Andorian tapped on his console. "Alright. Subtracting the fact that we need to check the targeting sensors, according to these preliminary scans we need to repair a few power couplings and eps conduits. We may also need to reroute some power once we are finished. Most of it appears to be accessible in the primary phaser array access room."

Ronson turned and headed towards the primary phaser array access room, and was soon elbow deep in conduits and control circuitry. Still he had a huge grin on his face, soon they were going home!

Kitiuas sighed Males, always thinking the use of weapons to solve an issue. Clearing her throat she spoke up for the first time in a while “Has anyone thought about the use of the cargo transporters to just dematerialize the material and redeposit it elsewhere. In theory if the Botany Bay started now,” here she stopped for a minute and cocked her head; as if calculating something in her head “the material encasing the right side pylon could be removed in approximately two hours, give or take thirty minutes.”

Bonnie smirked having the same thought. Men were good at blowing ship up, pun intended. On the other hand the phasers were not a bad idea if the pylon was indeed buried by that much rock. "We may need both. We might even need the runabout if the tractorbeam on it is functional. I say we use everything we have at our disposal to finish this thing. Wouldn't it be awesome for those at the camp to see us flying, like Ronson said, under our own power?" She was up and ready to head to the computer CORE. "Kit, while the boys play, care to join me in some computer CP uh R?"

Kit smiled, “It would be my pleasure, please lead the way.”

An hour later Ronson watched as the weapons systems came back online. Although not green across the board the phasers were operational for what the dogged repair crew needed them for.

"Shall we?" Ronson asked as the small team reconvened on the bridge with half a dozen Botany Bay engineers.

Thriss looked around the bridge, specifically at the Sunfire's team. "Who would like to do the honors?"

"You should do it Chief" Ronson tossed the answer back as the team gathered round. "Let's blow this joint and go home. Although that means I need to break the news to the Captain that we drank all her coffee" he shrugged his shoulders.

"Go ahead Chief." Tom encouraged. "Or we all put our hands on it." He suggested before looking at Ronson. "I don't envy you that task Ronson. Maybe she won't be too upset. If she is, I'll pitch in and help you buy some more for her."

“Glad it is you who has to tell the Captain about her coffee.” replied Kitiuas “Fire it up, I for one am looking forward to an actual shower.”

"One of those would be nice, piping hot and running for ages until your skin turns lobster" a dreamy lock ghosted over Ronson's features. "My goodness I must stink. As for the Captain's coffee supply, I'm sure she will agree that fixing the ship is a good exchange for her diminished coffee supply."

"One can only hope the Captain feels that way Ronson." Tom joked. "After all we know how she loves her coffee."

Bonnie and Kit reentered the bridge, "CORE is online. Targeting at your control." Bonnie said to Thriss as she took a seat at the science station. Meanwhile, several of the Botany Bay engineers finished hooking up a new console and moved away to do something else. They had been busy little beavers.

Seeing as there was no objections, the Andorian moved behind the primary tactical console. He made sure everything on the screen was working correctly. When it was, he tapped a few buttons and moved his hand on the screen until the sensor was locked onto the rock that needed to be broken. "Target locked. You may want to brace yourselves. Firing phasers."

A beam of orange light emitted from the phaser array, hitting the specified target. The rock began to disintegrate at a moderate rate.

The Sunfire shuddered a little as the tonnes of rock was blasted, some exploding, some vapourising and every second bringing them closer to getting off this rock. "How long do we blast for?" Ronson asked as the orange beam sliced through the tonnes of rock holding them down.

Bonnie was watching the thermals carefully, while the computer relayed the information. "We go just far enough that we don't impact the pylon. The phasers shouldn't have enough power to damage the ship, but we also don't want to blow ourselves up either. Not today anyway." She added with a sly grin. As she watched the beam grow closer she gave a countdown, "Cut beam in 5, 4, 3, 2..." She took a breath, "Now!"

Ronson watched as Thriss cut the beam and the orange lance abruptly vanished. He held his breath - had it worked?

With the beam cut, the dust began to settle, giving a clear picture as to where they stood. The rock was gone, the ship unburied and now I'm burdened. All that was left was to light the fires and see if they could lift off. Excitement was spreading. Bonnie looked at the ragtag bunch, "Who's ready to fly over and pick up the crew?"

Tom looked at the others. "Let's go. This is going to be one heck of a surprise for the captain and the rest of the crew. May even get a reaction from the Vulcans over this." He observed.

Night had recently fallen and Ronson couldn't help but hop side to side with excitement. The thought of the ship rising from the ashes, running lights and beacons on and emerging over the horizon to the sheer joy and surprise of the rest of the crew would be the best thing ever.

"Let do it"
