Patch Up Job

Posted on Wed Mar 29th, 2023 @ 9:24am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Lieutenant Sarah Wilson & Commander Dean House

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: Medical Tent

Dr Sarah Wilson looked up as Commander House was carried in on a stretcher, closely followed by the Captain who appeared to be covered in blood. Whether it was hers, someone else’s or an animal’s she had no idea.

“What happened?” The Doctor asked authoritatively, her expression serious given the fact Dean was on a stretcher at all.

At least he was still conscious so he could answer that. “Lets just say, both the dinos and I took off more than we could chew. I stayed behind to keep the pack and a biggin from getting to the herd and the camp. Which, I shouldn’t have done. I know it was stupid, having worked or not.” Not really trying to hide the pain completely. The wound were very clear to see.

A few hypos appeared and we're rapidly administered, providing pain relief and some initial infection control. Sarah looked at the facilities they had and wished for the Sunfires well equipped sickbay. It had been badly damaged in the crash and was low on the list of priorities in getting repaired. "We're gonna have to put you under to clean and set some of this" she said gently.

“Well that’s not going to be pleasant,” Dean rest his head back a little bit for a moment. “At least the pain killers are helping now. Everyone else okay? Other than..well..Red didn’t make it.”

“There’s a team retrieving his body - or what’s left of it at the moment, Gerty is fine and having a good meal, and the Captain could use a shower and a decent meal. Patin I’m sure is floating around, she was last seen yelling ‘yahoo’ from some kind of jobbeast as it ran past the camp” Sarah replied, injecting Dean in the neck with another few doses of stuff that would ease his recovery. “Alright, are you ready?”

There was a sigh given, “I suppose so. At least Patin and Gerty are okay.” Dean gave a bit of a nod. “Ready.”

Sarah nodded and sedated him, waiting a few moments to ensure the dosage had taken full effect before starting on this injuries. It took several long hours to set, knit, regenerate, and repair the extensive damage to his body, and would take many days to fully heal.

Four hours later she sat back and waited for the sedation to wear off, taking the opportunity to rest up after the grueling effort.

A long breath given though his eyes were kept closed. Another, breath and opening his eyes. “That doesn’t feel any better to be honest. I think it feels worse.” Figuring it would be stupid to try and lean up, much less try to stand. “So what all did you have to fix?”

She smirked, wondering if he remembered the condition he had arrived in. "Just about everything. Arms, legs, spleens, you name it, I mended it. You are fresh out of Dino luck my friend." Sarah looked at the readings coming from a nearby monitor. "You'll be alright though, you'll be sorry for a while as everything tries to finish healing.”
“All of that? Didn’t feel like it. I know what I am, and even that..how was I still walking then.” Even for him, if it was that bad, that shouldn’t have been possible. At least not that he knew.

"Adrenaline does amazing things, but you're right, it's astonishing you were able to stand at all." Sarah replied, setting down her tricorder. "How did you end up fighting a pack of dinos by yourself?"

“Patin managed to get one of them wrangled and started herding them this way. About the time that happened the pack that she and I still figured were hunting us came abouts after killing Red. So I stayed back to give them time to get away.”

" A noble cause, even if it would have killed a lesser person. You were lucky to survive" Sarah said gently. "I still don't know if you're just incredibly lucky or incredibly stupid or a mix of both." The last words were said in jest to lighten the mood. "You need to stay here overnight, then if you're feeling ok you can go back to your tent tomorrow for more rest"

“I know of some people who could have probably done it and still come out alive, without being what I am.” Trying to smile lightly. Dean took a breath,”A mix of both.” Resting his head back, “Oh..um. Are the teams back? Cause if they are would you get a message to Bonnie? That I’d like her to come see me to check in.” Suuuure, that’s why.

"She's still on the ship I think, but we can most definately give her a comm-call if you'd like to" the Doctor replied, unwilling to use the shuttle or the transporters for a social call

Dean made a face, “Well crap. And really, I have to stay here at least overnight?” He gave it a thought a moment, “No..it’s fine I suppose.”

“Yes you do. For anyone else it would be several nights” She made a face that spoke volumes. “Take it or leave it my friend” Just as she spoke the Captain emerged through the doorway, sans uniform jacket and with dried blood stains all over her turtleneck. “You owe me some cleaning when you’re up and about” the Bajoran retorted by way of a greeting, looking offended as Sarah pushed a tricorder in her general direction.

“That answered that question as far as that call goes.” Looking to Nora as he leaned up to prop by his elbows on the cot. “You didn’t have to pick me up or..whatever you did to get all my blood on you.”

“Yours… dinos… bit of mine..”Rhenora shrugged “ We don’t exactly have the luxury of replicating a fresh uniform at the moment.” And if I didn’t pick you up, who would have? As I recall it was just you and I out there facing a herd of cranky dinos. You did all the work, I just did the digging and the picking up”

Chortles a little, and then just full blown laughs for a good 20 seconds. Considering just even 10 seconds can actually seem like a good bit of time, that was a lot of time. Once he stopped, “No one listens. Why do you think shuttles and Runabouts have their own warp cores? For power. Hence, replicators separate from the main ships systems. Could have easily used a little bit for those smaller things. “And I don’t recall you being out there with Patin, Red, Gerty and I. Did you hit your head?”

“ Possibly, but it's way more fun to watch you wash it” She shrugged. “ And it’s you who may have bumped your head…who do you think dug into a pile of dead dino’s to get your slightly bent sword so you could pull off said final victory maneuver?”

“Probably, and if you think I’m washing clothes, you might as well just lock me up for insubordination.”

“We don’t exactly have a functioning brig at the moment, nor a sickbay, or a bridge, or well anything.” The spark had left her voice as the reality of the situation made itself at home. She took a breath before regrouping. “Sarah tells me she’s put you pretty much back together again”

A hand was lifted up between them, wiggling fingers. “For the most part. I’m not allowed to leave till at least tomorrow unless something goes wrong all of a sudden.” He meant with himself, not outside. Given if it was outside, of course he wasn’t going to listen.

“ You got off fairly lightly then. Last time I was in here it felt like for days” Rhenora chuckled, earning a glare from the good doctor. “Anyways, I just wanted to make sure you were doing ok after everything, and to thank you for saving our collective asses… again”

“I’m still here. Thank you for coming to check, and you’re welcome,” just leaving it at that instead of a comment on her last part.

“ Well then, it seems I have some cleaning to do, and you have some healing to do under the watchful eye of Dr Wilson here. I’ll pop by in the morning to see how you’re doing” She reached over and squeezed his shoulder in support.

“Actually, since we have a minute. Could you excuse us for a few Doctor.”

“Of course” Sarah nodded and headed outside for a moment, drawing a curious glance from the Captain.

Still leanted up, he looked from Sarah back to Nora, “I’m sorry for what happened on the Bridge.”

“ What do you mean?” She asked, not quite getting what he was eluding at. It seemed like forever ago since she’d stood on the bridge of the Sunfire

“When I went into that flash back and kissed you.”

She blushed, the colour rising in her cheeks as she recalled the moment. “You weren’t yourself in that moment, and I don’t hold you responsible for it” She said quietly.

“I still apologize, that couldn’t have been comfortable, for more than just you.”

“ Your apology is accepted, as I previously said - you weren’t yourself” She tried to brush off the situation, although the colour was still high in her cheeks, showing her embarrassment.

Perhaps he could fix that then. Noticing just that, the color was still there. Reaching up to poke each cheek. “Boop.”

The laugh was honest and heartfelt and killed the residual tension within the room. "I'm glad you're feeling better" she turned to leave.

“You know where I’ll be at for the moment if something comes up.”

“ I promise to visit you in the morning. Rest up” She smiled before exiting the tent, leaving House under the watchful eye of Dr Wilson.
