Check-in

Posted on Sat Mar 4th, 2023 @ 9:59am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Lieutenant Commander Aurora Vali

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: Aurora's tent

As they waited to see if the newly developed antidote had worked, Rhenora took a few moments to head out of the med tent. Her head was pounding and her legs aches from the injuries a few days ago. Fatigue was almost like a fog that clouded her brain, or perhaps that was the headache. She had intended to head back to her tent and grab some much needed rest, but instead felt herself drawn to Auroras tent. Something told her she was needed here first.

With Savar back at work, now she’d helped him regain his emotional control, Aurora was preparing to go get on with work herself. The problem was she was more shattered now, after her lengthy love making with Savar, than she was before. She was just about to exit the tent when she saw Rhenora approaching outside.

"Aurora, how are you doing? I had an inkling to check in with you before turning in" Rhenora explained as she stepped closer to the tent.

Aurora offered a tired smile “Captain, please come in. I think we should talk.”

"Of course" she nodded and followed Aurora back inside. Something was amiss, she could feel it, she just couldn't put her finger on it. "What's on your mind?"

“Actually...” Aurora stifled a yawn. “It’s Savar, and it’s... me.” She paused motioning for Rhenora to take a seat. “It’s taking everything I have to keep Savar’s mental state stable. Every time we meld to strengthen our connection, our passions take over. I’m not complaining, not at all, but I’m struggling to keep my own desires in check.”

Rhenora raised an eyebrow but kept the conversation on an even keel, trying to understand what was going on with both of her officers.

"Is Savar mentally unstable?" She asked "Is it making you unstable as well?" She approached the topic with openness.

Aurora sighed. “This place, it’s affecting my emotions, it’s causing a faster onset of my own Pon’farr cycle. I didn’t think it would effect me as I’m already pregnant. If we don’t get out of here soon then Sarah will have a problem on her hands. With a Savar the way he is he’ll act defensively towards any male he thinks is a threat.”

"I wasn't sure one could get Pon Farr is one was pregnant" The Captain echoed, although perhaps it is not true Pon Farr and is more something that the environment is causing. I do have positive news though, Sarah is trialing a new therapy to neutralize the effects. It's showing promising early results" she explained, taking a deep breath.

Aurora nodded. “Good. To be honest I don’t think it’s common for pregnant Vulcan’s to experience Pon’farr. It is a mating drive after all, it could just be a chemical imbalance brought on by this place. At least I’m hoping!” She offered a smile. “Savar should be okay for now, his needs have been satisfied.”

"How long has this been going on?" Rhenora asked, concerned for her friends well being. The fact both Vulcan and half Vulcan were pon-farrish could mean other copper blooded crew could be experiencing the same effects.

“It’s only been recent, I haven’t experienced the headaches as badly as a lot of the crew, I think it’s thanks to Sidak.” Aurora smiled. “I just feel more... Pon’farr moods, I guess you could say. Being half Betazoid and half Vulcan nothing is simple, My having Copper based green blood made my mother’s pregnancy more complicated to start with.” She grinned.

" That would be understandable. Well as I said previously, we're close to a treatment that we think should work" Rhenora smiled, hoping to impart some positivity into the conversation. "And I heard from the repair crews today - they are making good progress in repairing the ship" a yawn escaped before she could stifle it. " Sorry - long day"

Aurora nodded and smiled. “Don’t worry, I’m sorry I’m holding you up, and stopping you getting a much needed rest. How are you both doing?” She motioned to Rhenora’s baby bump.

"Don't be sorry, I haven't been sleeping well with everything that's going on" the Captain admitted. The stress of being stranded on an alien planet that was making the crew ill, the constant threat of dinosaur attacks and her husband currently de-evolving in the med tent. Her hand absently felt her lower abdomen, as if reminding her of the life within. "We... we're ok, we will be ok" she tried to smile as though she believed it.

Aurora offered a concerned glance. “What’s happening with Remal? I heard he wasn’t well, is it the same as everyone else?”

"I don't know if its the same illness that's progressed further and faster, or something different entirely. Ensign Thenis mentioned a DNA altering insect that may be the culprit, but we're hoping the new treatment works on him. Dr Wilson is monitoring him and I guess we'll know more in the morning" Rhenora mused, rubbing the ridges of her nose as the headache intensified. "We gotta find something soon or we'll all gonna end up rocking in the corner"

Aurora nodded. “I have every faith in Sarah, she’s an amazing doctor. We just happened to crash land on a planet that’s from our own past! I’m just grateful that Sidak seems to have immunity to this place, obviously something inherited from his own people whoever they are! Anyway...” she offered a smile. “You should go and rest.”

" I think we used some of his plasma when we concocted the antidote. A very small quantity that shouldn't interfere with the regular DNA of everyone else of course" Rhenora yawned again, feeling the headache blossom. " I'm going to catch some sleep, I just wanted to make sure you were okay"

Aurora nodded. “I’m okay Captain, one way or another we have to keep going same as everyone else.”

"That we do Aurora. Let me know if things get any worse will you?" The Captain patted her friend gently on the arm before turning to leave, a sting on her next followed by the slap of her hand revealing a biting insect. "I hope we get that serum working soon" she muttered to herself as she headed back to her tent.
