Repair Team 2

Posted on Sat Dec 10th, 2022 @ 7:47pm by Lieutenant Commander Bonnie "Bon-Bon" Durnell & Lieutenant Commander Thriss Kla'ren & Ensign Kitiuas Thenis & Lieutenant Thomas Haldeman & Senior Chief Petty Officer Ronson Mitchell

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: Sunfire
Timeline: Day 2

Her muscles ached already, but she was still determined. More ladders. They didn't dare use the lifts until they had the power they would need for the important things. The fire needed to be out, one way or another. Gung-ho, Bonnie reached deck nine just a bit ahead of Kit and headed straight for the suit locker. This time, she was confident she understood the mission, the process, and most importantly the way to put on the suit. Having paid attention the day prior, she wanted to show Kit she had listened to her instructions. Suited up, mask not yet on, she looked at Kit. "We got this, right?"

Tom and Ronson had retrieved a second sail and were working on getting deployed to add more energy for the Sunfire's batteries. They were doing this while keeping vigilant eyes out for any unwelcome visitors. "We get this sail in position and hopefully we'll see a big uptick in energy going into the batteries." He told Ronson.

" We need it, the more juice in the batteries the more we can try and not only keep the beacon running but start effecting repairs" Ronson replied as they hefted the second sail into position and connected up the various attachments "Chief, what's your read on the power intake now?" He asked the Sunfire's Chief Engineer who was currently manning the bridge.

Tom stopped his work to hear what the CEO had say. He was praying that there would be a substantial increase in energy going into the Sunfire's batteries. Energy that they could use to keep the emergency beacon going as well as some of the Sunfire's systems like the fire suppression system.

The Andorian Chief stood at the Engineering console. It would take him a second to reply because he had configured the interface to include the progress of both teams and there was a few different buttons he'd have to press to bring the current power intake reading on the screen. After a few seconds he spoke up. "It appears that we are at 18 percent and climbing slowly, but a decent amount faster than before."

"So we're fresh outta solar sails, but at least we have some improvement in the battery storage. Thanks Chief, we'll come back in and hook up with you" Ronson replied as he wiped the sweat from his brow. The day was heating up and the hull was a hot place to be working.

"Eighteen percent. Not great but not bad." Tom observed. "If we get a full day's sun into the sails we could be up to somewhere in the fifty to sixty percent range, That should be enough for us to activate the fire suppression system to help Bonnie and Kit and get some other systems back online." He smiled at Ronson. "Good work Chief.''

Meanwhile, in the belly of the beast, things were getting hot. The closer they had gotten to the source of the plasma fires and their sub fires, the worse the conditions became. Bonnie was tired and her suit drenched. The smoke, while clearing, seemed never-ending. So far the only thing keeping her sane and motivated to continue had been Kit's incredible drive to finish the job. It seem like they may be done putting out the fires by the time the batteries could activate the suppression system.

Decks nine through thirteen were now complete. A testament to their progress. This is when Bonnie heard a faint sound over the comms indicating they were out of sails and only at 18%. She knew there were four preloaded launchers on the hull of the ship that were preloaded and connected to the system and she immediately wondered why they hadn't launched them instead of deploying them manually. They were mechanical launchers and so wouldn't even use battery power if manually released. She shrugged and felt the wall panel in front of her. It was hot. "Kit, this one is hot. Do we want to grab the hose before we pull the release?"

Kit felt the panel with her hands, “Damn that is hot. Okay back up slowly and let’s see if we can manually kill the fuel feeding this area.” Kit’s wound in her right shoulder had opened up, and she could just imagine what Doctor Wilson was going to say when she got a better look at her injuries.

Kit found the first cut off valve and was just about to have Lieutenant Durnell make her way to the second cut off valve when the panel behind them exploded outward in a hellish green gout. Throwing Kit into Lieutenant Bonnie. “Gisjacheh and the Thousand Gods that stung.” She said as she began to do a visual inspection of the Lieutenant. “Are you okay? If so, you know the routine.” Kit said with a smirk on her voice and a small chuckle in her query.

"Oof," Bonnie rolled her eyes a bit. "Told you I was a bad luck charm and yep, I know the routine. Been hit enough times that if I didn't, I would be worried." She said as she sat back up. Her voice sounding like she had a bucket over her head. "More importantly are you okay? I think you took more of that impact than I did." She stared to look Kit over, checking her sides and back, her butt. The suit had been through Hell from more than this one fire but looked relatively intact. There were also no obvious blood spots but that wasn't a tell all.

Kit laughed, “Sure, I am having a ’BLAST’ of a time. Seriously though I am okay, shoulder hurts and is leaking a little, otherwise I am fine.”

Back inside Ronson wiped the sweat from his brow as they made their way to the bridge to see how Thriss was going. As they entered they could see the battery indicator slowly climbing, its blinking indicators tauntingly slow but moving in the right direction. " Is there anything else we can do to boost the battery power?" he asked.

Tom stood as Ronson asked his question of Thriss. Sweat dripped from his face. In fact, he seemed to be standing in a pool of sweat as it collected around his feet. Getting the second sail in place seemed to have been harder. perhaps because he and Ronson were doing first thing in the morning.

The Chief Engineer didn't reply for a second as he was confirming his readings. Thriss looked up. "If I could get to engineering right now I could begin the process of getting things in a sort of working condition. However, it isn't exactly safe to go down there yet with everything going on" he said, implying the fires and anything else that may be lurking down in the lower decks. "That said, I am willing to go down there early if needed. We aren't exactly completely safe remaining on the planet in this "Jurassic era" world as it is, not including the Sunfire and crew's condition."

"Once the fires are out we can all head down and give you a hand. The batteries don't need someone to sit and watch them charge and we could hook in a monitor from Engineering" Ronson suggested as the power meter edged slowly upwards.

"Excellent suggestion Ronson." Tom noted. "I said before, no one goes anywhere by themselves. Don't want anyone getting hurt or worse. Once the fires are out, we can decide what our next project to undertake will be."

Kit and Lieutenant Durnell were able to vent and get to deck fourteen cleared before Kit called it a day. “I think we need a break, and perhaps tomorrow we can have the others tackle deck sixteen while we tackle deck fifteen. Let’s head on back.”
