Return of Rank

Timeline: Just after leaving New Harrington

With Dean's rank reinstatement and a pertinent discussion regarding the upcoming trial out of the way, Captain Kaylen Rhenora set about righting the next of her two demoted officers. Aurora had performed exceptionally well during the last mission, to the point where Rhenora saw fit to reinstate her previous rank.

Making sure the paperwork and hardware was in order she sent a message to the counsellor, asking her to drop by at her earliest convenience.

Arriving on the bridge Aurora was met by Savar. “Rhenora sent for me” She offered a smile. “Though I’ve no clue why.”

"I do not know Aurora.'' Savar replied. "Let us go together to find out why the captain sent for you." He answered rising from his seat.

The Captain was in her ready room, reading a series of reports on the recent wash-up from New Harrington.

Pressing the chime Aurora hoped that Rhenora hadn’t called her due to a Counselling matter as Savar had accompanied her. She waited until she heard Rhenora call her to enter before walking in. “You wanted to see me Captain?”

Savar stood behind Aurora as they entered the captain's ready room. He hoped that whatever Rhenora had called Aurora for, he would be allowed to stay for the conversation.

"Come in" Rhenora had called a moment earlier, hoping it was Aurora so she could spring her little surprise. The doors parted to reveal both Aurora and Savar. " Commander, I hadn't expected you to tag along" She said honestly. " All good though"

Aurora smiled, “Thank you Captain. May I ask what it is you called me for?”

"Nothing bad Aurora, relax" Rhenora smiled, "take a seat, you as well Savar" she reached under the desk and retrieved a small box.

Taking a seat Aurora made herself comfortable, smiling at Savar as he joined her. She hadn’t noticed the box.

"I called you here because I think it's time I reinstated your rank to where it should be. Your service since the incident had been exemplary and I believe you have earned the right to wear your pip again" Rhenora smiled as she opened the small box and turned it to show the full gold pip inside.

Having sat down next to Aurora, a small smile played at the corners of Savar's mouth at Rhenora's reinstatement of Aurora's rank. He nodded in approval.

"If you could please stand Aurora" the Captain said formally, rising from her chair and taking the gold pip out of the box. She stood before the chief counsellor and took a breath, unable to resist the smile the blossomed.

Savar was pleased that Rhenora had seen fit to restore Aurora to her former rank. It helped soften the pain he had when he had reduced Aurora's rank, Now perhaps, they could finally put an end to the whole sorry affair.

Aurora’s eyes twinkled as they welled up with happy tears, she had earned her rank just like everyone else. It meant a lot to her to have her rank reinstated. “Thank you Captain!”

Savar listened to the happiness in Aurora's voice as her reank was restored. He wished he could have done it but had no issue with Rhenora doing it. It was done and that is what mattered most.

"It is my honour and privilege to reinstate you Lt Aurora Vali to the rank of full Lieutenant, with all the bells and whistles that rank commands" Rhenora said formally, removing the black pip and replacing it with the gold one.

Aurora waited patiently for Rhenora to finish before putting formality aside and giving Rhenora a brief hug. “Thank you so much!” Her smile shone as she turned to Savar, giving him a big hug as well.

Savar hugged Aurora back. He was pleased and gratified that her rank had been restored. To see her smile parted the clouds that had darkened his heart.

"You deserve it Aurora, I'm sorry it took so long" Rhenora replied with a sad expression, rounding the desk and dropping into her chair again.

“Don’t worry about it” Aurora smiled warmly. “It’s back now, that’s what matters.” She looked to Savar. “We’ll celebrate later, right now I have appointments and reports to sort out.”

Savar nodded his head, "Of course Aurora." He replied simply, to his wife and soulmate. "I look forward to it." With Aurora's return to rank, this whole sorry affair could be put to rest.

"You two go and get on your day, I have some more reports to get done. And once again, congratulations Aurora" the Captain smiled as the two exited her office. With another sip of coffee she got back to the reports that were awaiting her approval.
