Cold Night Chat

Posted on Wed Feb 9th, 2022 @ 11:24pm by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Remal Kajun

Mission: *CD*
Location: Bajor

Later that evening as Remal entered the bedroom and thought about stripping off his shirt and freezing to death or adding an extra layer in order to survive, he glanced at his life companion and wondered how she was fairing mentally after everything that had happened within the last few days. He reached out and touched her back gently, "are you okay?"

She rolled over to regard the rock that kept her sane with tired eyes and a gentle smile. "I am now" the last few weeks had been tough, old friends and new, reminiscing of the old times whilst moving forward in the new. And always with Remal by her side. "How are you doing?" She snuggled into him, breathing in the faint scent of old animal dung and forage.

"Worn out. Run ragged and for a while, worried sick. When we set out I expected to run into some trouble but I never imagined it would take its toll so quickly. Targeting our friends as a trap was the groundwork of an evil genius." He sighed, "I can only hope tomorrow will be a calm, relaxing retreat from our norm before we ship out again."

“ Where to next?” The question tumbled without thought. They’d saved one, lost one, but there were several to go scattered all over Bajor. “ Please tell me somewhere warm, tropical even?” A giggle erupted as she snuggled into Remal’s warmth. “ Somewhere with a hot shower and lots of water”

“Well, a shower would be nice.” He grinned back at her, devilishly. “I’m not sure how many more friends from the old days are left really, but we did discuss Zio Larr and her family. I still find it hard to believe it was a gas explosion which killed her and her family. And from my understanding her husband has still not been found.” He felt her shiver before adding, “Oh and it’s a temperate climate in Caratine Province, practically jungle like.” He teased earnestly.

"Out of the ice box and into the sweat box?" She laughed at him as she took a whiff of his body odour and wrinkled her nose. She knew her own would be just as pungent. A shower would do them both well. "What would you say if Patin wanted to join us, for old times sake? I have a feeling her recluse nature is more a cover for her lack of purpose." Rhenora rolled over and mused, staring at the frost encrusted ceiling. "The problem will be
reining her in"

“Hmm,” he agreed without directly commenting. “She is a loose top, but as long as she doesn’t have a problem being a third wheel, I agree it will be good for her. Living her life at the bottom of the bottle, longing for the action of the old days is a combination seeking absolution. Perhaps just being around us peaceful types, our influence could rub off.” He looked at her bemused eyes and tried to hold back his laughter waiting to see if she would break first or he.

“You’re calling us peaceful?” She couldn’t hold in the laughter at the irony of it. Here they were, leaving behind their so-called peaceful life in the stars to protect their friends by whatever means necessary. The plan would be to leave in the following days, allowing Patin to come up with a plan for her animals for the short to medium term whilst they planned the next leg of their journey. It would be travelling from one extreme to the other. Ice bath to tropical sweat box, frigid temperatures and icy winds to high temperatures and equally as high humidity. The thought of it made Rhenora want to perspire. At least there would be plenty of water for bathing.

"As peaceful as a pair of Truffcade birds fighting for their lives from a jacklecat. Minus the beak of course." He smiled then moved closer and nuzzled her nose ridges with the tip of his nose. He could feel her begin to warm so he pulled back slightly and added, "sorry about the smell. I didn't expect to be slinging dung on our vacation slash… whatever you call this thing we are doing." Her warmth helped him warm as well, to the point he wanted to stick one foot out from the bag they were in.

“ If this is a vacation - we really need to talk to your counselor about how you relax” She snorted as the combined body heat slowly thawed her extremities. “ I for one am not going to miss the cold… or the smell, although ‘manual labour smell’ actually works for you, the manure though…”

“I know.” He yawned. “I can do without that myself. Now, chatty Cathy, close those eyes and let’s get some sleep before some giant bug tries to carry us off into the night. Relax knowing you’re officially dead to our enemy.” He snuggled up and kissed her forehead Then closed his eyes and pretended he was somewhere warm.
