The ship is yours

Posted on Sun Nov 7th, 2021 @ 11:05pm by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: XO's Office

The time was 0800 hours and the ship's Captain had been up for several hours already. Her small bag packed with the few things she would hopefully not need down on the spinning green and blue planet below them. Dressed in civilian clothing she walked to Commander Savar's office and pressed the door chime.

Savar like Rhenora had been up for several hours , getting what he would need for his meeting with Rhenora. It was time to put his sleight of hand ability to work for what he intended. As he sat at his desk the door chime sounded and he called out "Enter" knowing it could only be one person at this hour.

Kaylen stepped forward as the doors parted, regarding the space that was Savar's office as nothing less than efficient.
" Good Morning Captain, I trust your evening was pleasant?" She started, heading via the replicator to the comfortable chair that opposed the desk.

"Good Morning to you Captain Kaylen," Savar answered crisply as he rose to stand behind his desk, giving Rhenora the respect she deserved. "My evening was indeed pleasant as it was spent with Aurora and Sidak." Savar answered, watching Rhenora head to the replicator undoubtedly to get a cup of coffee. "I hope your evening was pleasant as well."

" Busy, but productive. I was mainly tying up some loose ends, filing reports and beginning the investigation for down on the planet." Rhenora admitted, settling into the chair and sipping the coffee she had replicated, handing Savar the cup of tea as he generally liked it.

"Thank you." Savar replied as he sat back down and accepted the cup of tea as he listened to Rhenora detail her evening. "Have you uncovered any connections in the deaths of your friends?" He inquired as he sipped the tea, interested to know if there were any connections.

" Remal uncovered some more details last night, a friend of his
has died due to a 'gas leak' along with her entire family only yesterday" Rhenora explained, handing the details on the padd over to Savar.

Taking the offered PaDD, Savar read over it and then looked at Rhenora. "Most unusual to die from a gas leak especially when the whole system had just under gone a complete inspection and was certified to be safe."

" My thoughts exactly" Rhenora mused as she sipped her coffee sagely. "This does imply there was something more going on"

"Agreed Captain, may I ask other than the deceased being a member of your resistance cell is there any other connection between the two of you?" Savar asked as he took a sip of tea.

"Acquaintance of mine, but a cell friend of Remals" The Captain continued, bringing up the scant dossier. Record keeping hadn't been one of the rebuilding of their planet's forte's.

"I see. Captain if i may, How many of these deaths were friends of hers and how may were friends of Remal's?" Savar asked. His mind already working on another possibility.

" 5 were friends of mine, and a further now 4 were friends of Remals, but the period in question is around 12 to 18 months. If this is indeed premeditated, it goes back a long way" Rhenora mused as she sipped her coffee.

"I would say it is logical that this goes back both your and Remal's time in the resistance and that you are both being targeted by person or persons unknown with a score to settle." Savar paused, "Captain was there anyone who had a grudge against you or Remal? Or perhaps someone who was jealous of either of you?"

" It's a long list there Commander" The Captain said wryly, her mouth twisting a little a the corners. Most Bajorans had done things they weren't proud of during those years, particularly where collaborators had been concerned. " Still, Remal and I will begin investigating these deaths, and we'll keep you informed as we go. There should be little danger."

"Captain, may I remind you that you and Remal will not be the only ones looking into these deaths. As for little danger. I am not so sure. Person or persons unknown have an agenda and you and Remal may very been on it." Savar pointed out.

" Then they will most likely be looking for us on the Sunfire, or back at the cabin. We'll be in neither of those places" She reminded him with a smile. "We'll be cautious, of that I can promise you."

"I am not as sure of that as you are Captain. Whomever is behind this could have contacts informing them even now of your and Remal's plans and making plans of their own." Savar was uncomfortable with his friend going into what could become a volatile situation with no backup.

" Then they will also see that I am on leave, and according to the travel logs registered that Remal and I will be staying at the cabin for the next week. The Sunfire now is yours Commander, I will transfer the command code shortly" Rhenora could see Savar attempting to come up with a plan.

Savar nodded at Rhenora's statement. "I must reiterate I am neither comfortable or confident with this course of action you are undertaking Captain. You could be putting both yourself, your baby and Remal in grave danger. Though I know it is pointless to debate this with you further as you have already made up your mind."

" You know me too well Savar. I appreciate your concern, as your friend as as your Captain. This is something I need to do, it's personal" She replied, not admitting defeat but acknowledging his concerns.

"I believe we both know each other quite well Captain both as officers and friends. I understand your desire to find out the connection the deaths of your friends is to you and Remal. I will say again, stay alert and observant and in contact."

" Thank you Savar" Rhenora said simply as she regarded her first officer " Computer, transfer all command codes to Commander Savar, Authorisation Kaylen Gamma 53 Lamda"

"I relieve you Captain Kaylen." Savar replied standing and in a fluid motion scooped up the viridium patch he had kept out of sight of Rhenora it would soon come into play. Without her knowledge.

" I stand relieved Captain Savar, good sailing to you. I'll see you in a few weeks most likely" Rhenora extended her hand towards the man charged with keeping the crew safe.

"That would be most beneficial Captain as I would like you by my stand at my trial." Savar answered as he stood, shook Rhenora's hand and with his other other holding the patch, placed on her shoulder/back as he gave her a squeeze of encouragement.

" I will be there Commander, of that you can be sure, just make sure you are as well. The Gamma Quadrant has thrown us more than a few curve balls of late" Kaylen quipped as she picked up the small bag she had been carrying.

I will be there as well, I assure you of that Captain. As for the Gamma Quadrant, we will endeavor to dodge any curve balls it might wish to throw at us." Savar answered firmly. He paused for a moment, thinking of what to say next when his voice lowered and he spoke with quiet intensity. " Rhenora, I fear this is more serious than we both suspect. Please take the utmost precautions during your and Remal's investigation."

"I give you my word" the Captain replied with an equal measure of honesty and integrity. "I fear there is more going on than we have uncovered so far. We will take every precaution"

"I have never asked or required you to give me your word Captain. I know you are a person and of the highest character and integrity and that in itself is more than good enough for me" Savar replied candidly.

"Then you understand the level of brevity that comes with giving my word" Rhenora replied, shuffling her bag on her shoulder. "I should be going, the shuttle leaves soon"

""Indeed I do Captain." Savar replied. "Safe journey Captain. I hope your investigation brings you the answers you seek. Again be careful and be safe." He added as he stood alongside his friend.

"Peace and long life" Rhenora spoke the variation of the traditional Vulcan parting and offered the tradition hand gesture.

Savar raised his hand in return, "Live long and prosper Captain Rhenora Kaylen. I will see you again." He added confidently.

" You will indeed" Rhenora smiled at the new Captain, turned and left the office, heading for the DS9 shuttle bay that would take them down to the planet.
