Captain's Catchup

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: DS9

Captain Kaylen Rhenora strode confidently through the Cardassian designed hallways of the space station Deep Space Nine, the station charged with protecting the Alpha Quadrant from any threats that may come through the wormhole - and to protect Bajor in the process. Rhenora had always thought life on a stationary station would be a little dull, but the events of the last few years had proven that life was anything but dull aboard this particular station.

She rode the turbolift up to the command centre, the busy heart of the station, and where she knew she would find the station's CO. She walked along the upper lever and pressed the chime on the double door's right hand side.

" Come in" Came the female voice from the inside, a proficient but cordial signal to enter.

Rhenora waited for the doors to open then stepped through, finding her old friend working diligently behind the desk on something or other.

" Nerys" The Sunfire's Captain said warmly, the facade of Captaincy vanishing as soon as the doors closed. The two had known each other for decades and regularly kept in touch.

" Rhenora" Kira replied in kind, rounding the desk and enveloping the other in a friendly embrace. " The Sunfire should be ready in 4 hours" She advised, stepping back a little to regard her friend.

" What are you looking at... or for?" Rhenora asked quizzically, giving Kira a curious look.

The other Bajoran simply laughed and shook her head, heading to the replicator and returning with two steaming rakijino's. " Oh you know... evidence of the rumours" She retorted as they both sat on the nearby couch.

"Well what do you think?" Rhenora retorted, giving nothing away whilst at the same time knowing Kira could generally see right through her.

" When... and where?" Nerys asked, sipping her coffee and settling in for a chat.

Rhenora smiled, knowing she couldn't keep it a secret forever. " late autumn, and hopefully in our cottage by the beach. But you never know, the Prophets tend to work in mysterious ways"

" Aint that the truth" Kira laughed and they spent the next hour in friendly conversation about anything and everything. " Take care back in the Gamma Quadrant - we've heard things are unsettled."

Kaylen nodded sagely, knowing that Kira was aware of the damage the Sunfire had taken over the last few weeks. " We need to get back out there and get some decent intel for Command so they can make some decisions" She stood as an affirmation and paced, eager to get back on the road so to speak.

" Recall your crew, by the time they all arrive back the Engineer's will be finished and you'll be good to go. Just... be careful. For me?" The younger Bajoran asked, inclining her head ever so slightly.

The older woman nodded in affirmation " We will be, and we'll be back before you miss us. Thank you, for everything you've done to get the repairs completed so quickly" Another quick embrace, and she left to return to the Sunfire.
