Command Evaluation - Kaylen Final

Posted on Thu Aug 5th, 2021 @ 7:58am by Remal Kajun & Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen & Lieutenant Commander Aurora Vali

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: USS Sunfire
Timeline: Before Chill Party

As the ship exploded in a brilliant ball of white hot light, the simulation ended. The familiar grid of the holodeck returned and a chair bathed in light appeared for the Captain to sit and rest before questioning began.

Remal sympathized with his wife. She had just lost everything she held dear in an effort to keep the ship and her secrets out of the hands of the enemy. Now she would have to answer questions based on her performance and her friend Aurora was to be her counselor. He remained sitting, unable to interfere, and allowed Aurora and Savar to approach for phase 2.

Savar was silent as he looked out at Rhenora. His respect and admiration growing even more. "A most impressive
Captain and woman." He said to Remal.

"I know." Remal beamed. He knew his wife well, knew what she was capable of, and knew her weaknesses.

As the Sunfire dissolved from her self-destruct and the hologrid returned, Rhenora drew a shuddering breath, realizing that it all a simulation. She felt drained emotionally and physically, like a sponge wrung out of all it liquid leaving only the bones behind. It took her a few moments to compose herself and rise shakily to her feet, glancing around to find the observers she now knew would be there.

"Captain." Savar's calm voice came to her. "I know how incredibly difficult this exercise was for you. However, you performed in an exemplary fashion. How do you feel about your performance?"

"It wasn't a performance, it was a no-win scenario that was designed to test just how much I was willing to give up for the sake of Starfleet" the Captain replied bitterly before curbing her tongue and remembering that this would be sent to Command. "The objective was achieved."

"You are correct Captain, it wasn't a performance. I apologize to you for saying it was. The 'tests' were quite revealing and not at all pleasant." Savar replied. "I can only hope that whatever information Command gets from these tests that they find it useful."

" As do I" Rhenora replied, both mentally and physically exhausted from the ordeal. Now that her mind had come to terms with the fact that everything was a simulation she was starting to process everything and bury it in the dark recess of her mind.

"Rest assured Captain, you have upheld the highest goals and standards of a Starfleet Commanding Officer," Savar told his commanding officer and friend honestly.

" I may have upheld the goals and principles of Starfleet, but everyone I cared about had to die in the process" Rhenora agreed sagely, shoving the newly formed memories away so she couldn't dwell on them. They would be unpacked at a later date. "At least the ship didn't fall into enemy hands" She admitted.

Savar knew not to belabor the heroism in Rhenora's actions. As the Captain felt anything but heroic. He saw the anger in her face and heard it in her voice. He knew she would have to come to grips with this on her own just as Aurora and he had to. It was a bitter pill to swallow.

The Captain paced, burning off her frustration and mood with the movement. She focused on her breathing, using the exercise to focus and calm her mind, musing over whether her heightened emotional response was because of her condition or because she was tending on the edge of burnout.

Sensing her discomfort, Remal wanted to step up and break the tension, but he knew he could not interfere in the questioning unless the attending CO and or Counselor allowed for it. He cleared his throat, prompting a rush on the interogation. "Perhaps we could speed this along as I'm sure some tension relief will be in order." He spoke quietly from behind Savar.

Savar turned to Remal, "I agree Chief. I have no further questions for the Captain. Therefore I am done with my questioning and this interview is over. Why do you not go and comfort her in the privacy of your quarters."

“I have... no problem with that” Aurora offered a brief smile but it was obvious she was as rattled as Kaylen at the final outcome of the test.

*Do you need comfort as well my love?* Savar telepathically sent to Aurora.

“I most definitely do” Aurora sent back as she looked towards her husband.

*Then you will most definitely receive it.* Savar sent back to his wife and true love.

The thunderous clap of his hands garnered everyones' attention. "Alright, Computer, end program." To which the computer responded by dissolving everything around them. Remal then walked up to his wife, wrapped his arm around her, and guided her out of the holodeck and back to their quarters where he could only assume some counseling was in order.
