Command Recertification - Savar pt 4

Posted on Sat Jul 17th, 2021 @ 3:13am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen & Lieutenant Commander Aurora Vali & Remal Kajun

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Holideck 1
Timeline: Recertification Week

The minutes slowly ticked by and Rhenora remained bound, sitting in the center seat. To say she was not a happy camper was to tell a universal truth.

She grumbled, she glared, but there was little the holo-Rhenora could do about the situation. Several engineers, scientists and other specialists had examined the manacles yet no-one could figure out how to either cut them, or unlock them.

A search of her ready room had failed to produce a key or any kind of device that would release the manacles from the Captain's wrists.

"Most peculiar." Savar said as he watched a team of engineers unsuccessfully attempt to remove the manacles. "Do you think you could still command a starship?" He asked Rhenora.

"I might use it as an opportunity to retire, besides, I need you to repair the ship" Holo-Rhenora smirked, her tone and idioms dead on for the real one.

"Indeed. You would certainly have a reason for it." Savar answered and went back to overseeing the repairs. while leaving Rhenora sitting in the center seat with her hands bound securely behind her.

" I may do just that" The Holo-Captain retorted as she cast her eyes firmly on the viewscreen.

"Would you care to get up and stretch your legs Captain and walk about the bridge? As stretching your arms seems out of the question." Savar asked.

An hour later the Engineers returned and freed the Captain's wrists.

Between the two, Remal had seen enough. He stood. "Computer end phase one and begin phase two."

The Sunfire disappeared only to be replaced by a single comfortable chair in the center of the room, bathed it light. It was for Savar to sit. From the fringes came the real Rema'ls voice, "This may sound preposterous to you but I have to ask, how do you feel?"

Savar looked at the wall of the holodeck as he sat in the chair. He did not answer immediately as he thought on the question. How did he feel? Unfilled as he failed to save the person he loved above all others. He had saved the Captain, crew, and ship but somehow that did not seem enough.

"I feel unsatisfied." He finally answered.

Curious, Remal delved, "Perhaps you could elaborate for us. What exactly has you feeling unsatisfied? Would you have wanted more time perhaps, to finish off the enemy that wounded you so?"

"I saved the Captain and crew along with the ship. This is true but I failed Aurora. The one I love above all else." Savar answered quietly.

Rhenora's heart ached to hear the words, knowing full well how real the scenarios were meant to be. It hurt to see her friends deliberately put in emotional turmoil just to tick some box back at Command.

"It is difficult, I know. It was even difficult to watch. I commend you on your ability to deal with the emotional turmoil in the moment and still maintain your focus. I'm not sure I could have done the same. For the record, and I'm sure you know this to be true, your young wife is alive and well in your quarters." He paused to give the man a moment to collect himself and his thoughts before he continued with the questions.

Savar was quiet for several seconds before he nodded, "I am greatly relieved to know that Aurora is well. I will head there when we are finished. Do you have more questions for me?"

In their quarters where she still watched Aurora sent a message through their bond. I’m still here ashayam, I will be waiting for you.

"In this scenario, you were pushed and divided. Looking back, is there anything you feel you could or would have done differently to better affect the outcome for the sake of the ship, her crew or even your young bride?"

"In retrospect, I would have ended the standoff with the alien leader. It would have allowed the time to save Aurora." Savar answered without hesitation.

"Perhaps. Or perhaps that was a sign of compassion on your part, an effort to convince your enemy without violence. A nobility often sought in a Starfleet officer, and again, I commend you for that. It takes courage to face your attacker and yet still attempt to find a non-violent solution. I for one might have just shot him when he was being talkative, but then, I am not up for certification." He looked back at Rhenora, "Do you have any further questions?"

"No, only to say that your performance was exemplary albeit difficult. On a personal note it was most difficult to watch you go through it" She cast her eyes down a little, unable to meet his.

Savar nodded and spoke quietly, "Thank you for saying so Captain. You will forgive me if I feel otherwise."

Remal crossed into the center of the room where Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen remained sitting, "You did well. I may send you some follow up questions, just to satisfy Command, but if they don't outright admit your worth, I'll have a scenario or two ready just for them." He offered a hand up to his friend.

"I shall be available for anything else you may need me." Savar replied. He raised his hand in return. "Live long and prosper Chief, Captain." His voice still subdued.

"Computer end program." He smiled and looked at Savar, "Now, go spend some time with your young bride. And, tell her thank you for her invaluable assistance, from me, please."

"I shall do so." Savar answered as he rose from the chair and without a look back left the holodeck.
