Brin and Faro - Insurgence

Posted on Thu Jun 17th, 2021 @ 3:08am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Remal Kajun

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Bajor

The original plan for three days apart had passed. Brin’s journey had taken longer due to some unexpected complications with the locals. The crowds were not as receptive as he had hoped and with each hour that passed the feeling grew within him that he was begging rather than convincing. He constantly tried to re-evaluate his methods. He could only hope, as he finished the third city and made his way back home that his right hand had experienced a less difficult time in her training sessions.

“ You look defeated,” Faro said simply as she opened the door to her exhausted partner. She regarded him critically up and down, taking in his posture, his expression and the dull look in his eyes. “ I take it that things did not go as well as planned?”

“I almost feel defeated.” He dropped the Kostemogen upon their dining table, a temporary resting place and he knew it. “I expected three days, not six. With each city I stayed an extra night in the hopes of turning more minds only to meet with stronger resistance.”

He shook his head in dejected resignation. “Please tell me you had a much better experience with the recruits.” He was practically pleading for some good news.

“ They were willing, and took well to instruction, I think they’ll be good” Faro smiled, changing tack so that the tone was lighter. “They’ve moved into the compound and taken their dedication to the Wraith” She was proud of her efforts to mould these new people into their ways.

“That’s something I suppose. I just fail to understand the challenge the Wraiths have set before me. We were told the masses would flock to us like two tailed geemies. Instead they are stubborn and arrogant, fighting what they do not understand.”

“ They will flock, we just need to find the motivator so that they do that. They need to feel abandoned by the Prophets, neglected even. We need to cut off the serpent's head by taking out their emissaries and the rest will wither and die.” Faro countered, passion rising again in her voice.

“You propose striking at the serpent before we’ve established a backing. That is akin to jumping bare feet first into a pit of vipers and expecting to not succumb to their poison.” He was shaking his head at the idea that seemed well beyond reach. “Besides, our attempt on their life here in our own garden should have been enough.”

“ Should have, but wasn’t.” Faro reminded him sagely “The fire should have been enough, but wasn’t” She was not entirely sure how to handle the situation. Their pleas for dissention and desertion of the traditional faith were not being met with the enthusiasm they had planned. The rebellion against the Prophets was at risk of failing in its infancy.
“ I’m just not sure what to do about it”

He hung his head low. “I do like the idea of striking, but we must be smart.” Then he paused for a minute as he mulled over something deeper. With a breath of air he expelled, “Perhaps it’s time to return to the caves, to seek direction.” He knew they had discussed only returning to the caves when absolutely necessary for just admittance was akin to serving penance.

“ We can most definitely do that. We are gaining little ground here, it may be time to re-evaluate our approach. Perhaps the Wraith can provide us with inspiration” Faro admitted, hating feeling as though they had no solid path forward.

He peered into her eyes for answers, "Will you come with me? Now I know you have trainees and the Wraith rarely…" he was about to continue when she interrupted him enthusiastically.

"I can set them some tasks that will take a few days, and Fin can keep an eye on things. How long?" She questioned, wondering if this was going to be a sabbatical or more a quick insightful visit.

His face twisted, "I don't really know. On the few times I've visited the Wraiths, they were rather forthcoming yet almost always cryptic in nature. Sometimes the difficulty lies in the understanding." He knew she was looking for something more concrete so he added, "A day, maybe two."

“ Let’s go then, we need to look at different ways of doing things, different ways of appealing to the people if we ever want to win this battle. We defeated the Cardassians, we can be triumphant again” Faro said with conviction in her voice.

She reached around and grabbed a few things before dumping them on the kitchen table. “ We will leave tomorrow morning, I will inform everyone else. First you need sleep”

"See. That is why I need you. You are as compassionate as you are ruthless." He stood. "Come, tell me more about our new recruits. Any potential?" He led he towards the washroom A cleansing was in order.

“ I think so, they seem dedicated to the cause and want to help us rid Bajor of the Prophets so the Wraith can take their true calling.” Faro smiled “ They are only a few but I feel they will go a long way. Subtle waves in the community, slight changes may be the way to move forward” She smiled as Brin washed up and attempted to erase the exhaustion from his features.

“And maybe that’s it.” He said as he tossed the towel down on the sink. “We’ve been subtle up until now. Now we are attempting to move from subtlety into an active state and we are receiving our first taste of push back. Where I believed the people would be receptive, instead they are like a sponge wall. We need to saturate them with ideals in order to break down their defenses.”

“ Still a sponge has the ability to absorb and flex” Faro encouraged, musing over their intentions and how they could change to better achieve the will of the Wraith. “Once the sponge is full, it leaches into other sponges, the trickles of our cause. I’m intrigued as to how you think a more ‘active’ approach may help” She looked at her lover with curiosity in her eyes “ We wish to remain unseen, yes? “

“Yes. For now. “ He stared into the running water. “I have always felt we should be like the water. Smooth, adaptable, changing as the resistance changes. Over the course of time nothing is more determined to reach its goal than the flow of water. And when held back, and then suddenly released, can be as destructive as fire.” He splashed at the water in the basin, spraying it everywhere.

She listened to his words and watched his movements, absorbing the truth behind his words. There was no denying it, they held a meaning that couldn’t be ignored. Putting those words into action was the hard part.

“ Let us see what the caves offer in the morning, I have a feeling that there will be much to think about in the coming days” She offered, extending her hand towards her lover and pulling him towards the bedroom “ Rest, I feel we will both need it.”
