Engineering Report

Mission:
Gamma Quadrant
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current
Lieutenant Kla'ren exited the turbolift and onto the bridge to give the Captain his engineering report. He would have gotten it in sooner, if the drill hadn't of happen. Nevertheless, he was getting the report in. Plus, he wanted to discuss the Transwarp situation with the Captain. Seconds later, he pressed the door chime as he got to the ready room door.
Rhenora looked up from her coffee, thankful to be sitting down and resting her body after the intensity of the scenario. She was definately feeling her age just a tad lately.
" Come in" She called, wondering what was next on her long list of things to do.
The ready room door slid open to reveal the Andorian Chief Engineer holding a PADD in his left hand. "Captain, I have that engineering report you asked for, as well as something I'd like to bring to your attention."
" Please, take a seat" Rhenora welcomed the Engineer into the ready room and indicated the seat opposite. Ronson had appeared sometime in the last few minutes and slipped a sandhich on her desk which she was greatly appreciative of.
" Give me the highlights of the report" She requested as she took a bite.
Thriss set the PADD down on the desk. "The damage control teams have most of the damage repaired in terms of ship-wide damage. While there was a decent amount of damage, it was repairable. In terms of Engineering itself, there was damage to the warp core, which was primarily to the Dilithium Crystals that were in use at the time. Those have since been replaced with new ones, and are in the process of being repaired." Kla'ren answered. "Also, Lieutenant Durnell wishes to make contact with a nearby relay station that was destroyed during the war, to see if it was rebuilt"
Rhenora maintained eye contact with the Andorian as he spoke, mentally filing the report as he did so. "Thank you Lieutenant. I'm glad to hear the repairs are nearly complete - do we have any idea as to why the trip through was so rocky in the first place?" She queried, and made a note to address the relay station matter a little later.
"While I am not yet certain, Lieutenant Durnell mentioned that the engineering core hadn't been patched since the Sunfire left spacedock more than six months ago and that the main core and the engineering core were not "speaking the same language", so to speak. She made a patch during our trip into the wormhole. I think that it was caused because the core hadn't been patched. Polarizing the hole, and possibly the patch helped stabilize us. However, there is another possibility."
Rhenore listened carefully to what Thriss has to say, not overly surprised that the patches hadn't been completed before she took command. There was much to be said for an orderly and smooth transition. " So we have patched it properly now?" She asked, "And you have another theory as to the bumpy ride?"
"Yes, and yes. The patch should hold up for a while. As for the theory, Lieutenant Durnell discovered a subdirectory in the computer core, labeled 'Transwarp 2.0'. I have looked over the data, which is sufficient information for a Transwarp Drive. So, this could have also had a part in causing our situation in the wormhole. However, I am unsure if it was solely because of the Transwarp, or that along with the other possibilities mentioned. I have included the data from the subdirectory in my report, as well as data from the Enterprise and Voyager."
Rhenora rubbed her chin thoughtfully as she thumbed through the report and took in the summary pages. " So we have a second generation Transwarp drive, that little detail wasn't in the design brief I was given. Then again said design brief was from when the ship launched several years ago. In your opinion could we bring the second generation drive online now that we have the information?" She asked
"It is possible. However, if we do, I'd recommend to proceed with caution, because of what happened in the wormhole." Thriss answered. "Though, I would also need a decent amount of time to study the schematics, and share it with my department, given that this technology hasn't been used that much, with the exception of a few ships. But, like I said, it is possible."
The Captain nodded, bringing the ever present coffee cup to her lips and taking a sip. The brew was nearly cold but passed as acceptable. " Take all the time we need, we still have standard warp drive however transwarp would be beneficial should be need it in a pinch. Shall we schedule a review for a weeks time and see how you and your team are progressing?" She offered.
"That would be appreciated Captain. I will inform my team once get myself situated with the needed information to get the drive online." Thriss replied.
" Wonderful, is there anything else while you are here Thriss? How are you settling in on this old tub?" Rhenora smiled at the Engineer, changing the discussion from business to personal.
"There isn't anything I need at the moment. In terms of myself, the Sunfire is significantly smaller to the Liberty, and the Varley, but I am making due so far, despite the lessened space." Kla'ren responded honestly.
" I'm glad to hear it. Make sure your staff are up to speed on any quirks we think these engines may have, we don't want to be caught unawares if there's anything we can do to prevent it" The Captain admitted, knowing it was a big ask. Any older ship had quirks and glitches that couldn't be avoided.
"I'll let them know. Is there anything else Captain?" he asked.
" I don't think so Thriss, please pass on my thanks to your team for getting the repairs done so quickly. " Rhenora praised, before rising from her chair " Good job"
Thriss rose up from his chair. "I will tell them, and thank you Captain."
" No - Thank you Lieutenant" Kaylen replied as the Engineer turned and headed towards the door. As he left she breathed a sigh of relief that the engines were in good hands, and continued on her day.
