So What Happened?

Posted on Sun Jun 20th, 2021 @ 8:05am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen & Lieutenant Commander Sandra "Phantom" Risa & Commander Dean House

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Ready Room

Captain Kaylen stood as the scenario was finally complete, tired and a little sore after the wringer she'd just put the crew and herself through. It been a good test of where the ship and the crew were at, however there were a few incidents that required a little closer attention.

" Commander Savar, Lt Commander Risa, and Lt House please report to my ready room" She called as she entered the quiet sanctuary that was her office. She headed over to the replicator to order a coffee before the other officers arrived, taking a few moments to compose her thoughts.

Savar was on the bridge as Captain Kaylen summoned him along with Lt. House and Lt. Cmdr Risa to her Ready Room. No doubt to discuss the crews performance in the just completed combat drills and discuss where improvement could be made.

"On my way." Dean called for someone to come replace him for now and turned to head into the Ready Room.

Rhenora smiled as her XO entered the room first, an eyebrow raised as was his way. "A discussion regarding the incident with the fighters mainly" She quickly briefed him on what she had heard. " Do you have anything you would like to bring up as well?"

Savar nodded at the brief outline the Captain had given him. "I would like you to address Lt. House leaving the bridge without notifying either you or I. I applaud his initiative but is one of individual and not teamwork."

There was a glance given to see if Risa was behind him or not, and Dean pressed the chime, regardless of being called to go in there.

"Come in" Rhenora called as she awaited the other officers, the coffee cup warming her hands as she spoke. She took a seat behind her desk and indicated Savar to lso take a seat. The remaining two chairs were for House and Risa.

Savar took his seat and waited for House and Risa to do the same.

Dean came in and moved to pull a seat out for Risa before he moved to sit himself.

Sandy sat and thanked House. Looking at her captain, she knew full well what this was about. Ajax was on the mend and his fighter was being repaired, but there still remained the how it happened. Pilot error or computer glitch.

" Thank you both for coming" Rhenora started, indicating that they take the two remaining seats. She drew a breath before addressing the situation. " We need to discuss a few matters that arose during the battle drill." She eyed both of the officers.

" Firstly, the nature of the injuries to Mr Ajax and his fighter. This was a drill, there should have been no major injuries yet now we have a pilot in sickbay" The Captain continued, turning her attention to Lt Commander Risa. "As his direct superior do you have any light you can shed?"

"As it stands there are only two plausable answers, pilot error or a very costly computer glitch. Holographic drills are usually done with safeties on so no one gets hurt. If, and I suspect it was a computer glitch, the safeties dropped for a few seconds allowing the fighter that was following Ajax to fire true weapons resulting in the incident," she explained.

" You don't believe there was a component of pilot error?" Rhenora prompted, not believing that there was herself but wanting to be doubly sure.

"It is possible that there was also pilot error. Scar could have accidently fired his own weapons thus causing the accident. I have to debrief Scar and Ajax as soon as both are released. Scar is a new kid and right now he feels like hell. Ajax on the other hand is a good pilot and not prone to making mistakes, but as I said it could be either or," Sandra said.

" I'll leave that in your capable hands to deal with. Please of course advise me of the outcome. Now.. onto the next matter, there was an.. exchange may I call it between the two of you during the fighter incident..." She left the rest of the sentence for the two officers to fill in.

Dean shook his head a little bit, "I'm not entirely sure what you'd like my input for. I don't fly, though I'd like to learn. I was simply monitoring and trying to cover them so non one got hurt."

Rhenora took a breath, broaching one of the subjects she had some concern over. Not a great deal - just a friendly reminder.

" I overheard some of the conversation between the two of you. I understand that sometimes in the heat of the moment things can get... heated...for lack of a better word and protocols tend to slip." She started, eyeballing the two younger officers " I just need a certain level of decorum with any communications"

Savar didn't say anything. He just sat and observed House and Risa.

"To be honest I don't see a certain issue with it, Ma'am." Dean tilted his head a little, "As far as I am aware, it was just playful banter, but we also kept up focus with the mission. I know that her junior got hurt, but that had nothing to do with the conversation. We were on point."

"The issue Mr. House is to be professional and that should be enough of an explanation for you." Savar spoke up calmly.

"We were still professional. We're not all Vulcans and only speak logically, sir."

"No you are not...unfortunately." Savar commented dryly. "Tell me Mr. House is it in your nature to take issue with everything that is said to you. Also while on the matter of being professional could you explain why you left the bridge without informing the Captain or myself?" Savar questioned.

"While we had that discussion, you didn't like that I called you Mr. Vulcan as a joke. Mister Vulcan, I don't take issue with everything said to me. I take issue when something is questioned and not understood between myself or other people. We understood it and did our job to the best of our ability." Dean gave a motion with his right hand, "As for that, it seemed to me trying to wait for permission would have taken to long so I made a judgement call and just did it."

Savar looked at him cool, unreadable eyes. "Thank you for making my point Mr. House." Savar replied. "Your actions both here and on the jungle planet indicate a pattern of not thinking, of just doing what you felt was best. Without regard to the outcome your actions may have on others. While I applaud initiative, yours more often than not is of an individual nature and not teamwork. That you callously undertake actions that can cause even bigger problems for both crew and ship without considering your actions and their outcome is disturbing."

"That was another joke. I apologize on that, Commander. Obviously my humor leaves something to be desired." Dean didn't approach what Savar just said, not yet, since he wasn't the only one in there that may have something to say about the situation.

The Captain watched the interchange and gently reined the discussion back.

"This was a gentle reminder for professionalism and conduct. Whilst you don't have to like everybody on board you do need to heed the regulations. Now, both of you are dismissed. Don't disappoint me by having to come back in here" she eyeballed both the young officers.

In all fairness, Sandra understood what the captain said. "Understood captain, I will try to keep the chatter civil when in flight. We tend to chatter like the old pilots of Earth during the World War's. It helps to control the fear that each of us carry into battle," she said.

"I appreciate that Commander Risa, whilst I expect that the situations are stressful, we need to keep things above board." Rhenora nodded to both of them as they headed towards the door, feeling better that she'd addressed the situation.
