Subject: Baxx
The irony is not lost on me. Here I am, on Deep Space 9, preparing for a new mission aboard the Sunfire with a crew of strangers. And from this very station, I can sense the proximity of Betazed. A world of open minds and boundless emotions, a world that gave me Baxx.
Being here, so close to his home, has stirred memories I keep carefully contained. The silence I've cultivated for so long is being broken by echoes of laughter and conversation that once filled our home. The prospect of a new crew, a new mission, and an unfamiliar ship is a profound catalyst for all this. Each face I pass reminds me of his, each strange corner of the station is a reminder of the life we built together.
Baxx Troi. The great-nephew of Lwaxana. A name that brought both warmth and a touch of drama to my life. He was my anchor, the emotional gravity to my centuries of solitary drift. I was not meant for domestic bliss, for the simple, beautiful life we shared. But he made a home for me, not with walls and furniture, but with understanding and unconditional affection.
When he was lost on that mission, the grief was a study in contrasts. Lwaxana's was a public tempest of tears and rage. My own was an internal cataclysm, a silent, all-encompassing sorrow that only I could feel. I am a being who has weathered the unmaking of worlds, yet his absence is the most profound void I have ever known.
So I will go to the Sunfire. I will meet the new crew. I will carry out this mission for Quinn. But I will do it with the ghost of a Betazoid at my side, a love that time cannot diminish, and a constant, quiet ache that this station, so close to his home, only serves to amplify.
