Mission:
Ramant
Location: Chamber 24 Alpha, and study 23 Alpha
Timeline: Current
The Intern arrived at the designated chamber early, and had gone through the set up protocols, ensuring the room was secure and that recordings were encrypted with bio-signatures so only they could access them. She added some personal touches to the room, a woven blanket, some subtle lighting, and a change of clothes.
Her curiosity had intensified over the last hour, and since the scientist had touched her hand, she felt a strange tingling pervade her body. Was that what emotion felt like? She kept her mind curious, realizing that if this was going to work they would have to allow themselves to feel all of the emotion rather than repress it. The door opening startled her and she turned around, expecting the scientist to enter in his full uniform.
Instead he was draped in a hospital gown similar to the test subjects, but there was something off about his demeanor. He was not the curious individual she had talked to only minutes prior. Instead he had a look of apprehension and nervousness. The door sliding behind him caused him to jump, it was like a barrier to freedom and he was suddenly scared that a line was about to be crossed.
Still he moved to where she had laid out a blanket and knelt down into it. "Apologies if I was tardy. The subjects had something to say just after you left which had me thinking. They seem more intelligent than the last group we sampled. Perhaps, and this is just me thinking this, but is it possible we are doing the wrong thing by using them for our gain?"
The Intern paused and contemplated this nugget of information. "From what I have seen you are correct. However the only way the Chief Scientist will release them is if we can prove they are no longer necessary as surrogates and test subjects. We need to solve this on our own." She looked at him with pleading eyes. "I did some research in the forbidden archives. They used medication to suppress all emotion and bodily variation, that has since been included in our sustenance and water supply." She started nervously, almost as though she had uncovered a mighty conspiracy. "This is the antidote, it was developed in case of global adverse reaction." She raised the hypospray. "We must use it if this is to work and the subjects to have any hope of freedom"
He was instantly dubious. She had uncovered so much information in so little time and had even managed to produce an antidote. The feeling had him paranoid but that paranoia was quickly overridden by this sudden urge to know the truth. A truth he could only know by going through with it. "I wonder if it will hurt." He began, but she grabbed his arm and injected the serum even as he contemplated the original reason their ancestors had gone down this path in the first place.
He retracted with an "ow" while rubbing the spot of the injection, clearly being a big baby about it. Then he watched as she did the same, taking the injection. "Do you wonder why they did this in the first place? What reasoning would they have to suppress all emotion in the first place?"
She shrugged, realizing how dangerous it was to reveal the dark obsession she had about the forbidden times. "I don't know. The pointy-eared subjects from the other ship seem to have little emotion as well. Maybe it makes things more 'efficient." She reached for his hand as he had for hers earlier, reminding her brain to be curious about all new sensations.
"Are you still wanting to attempt to replicate the experiment?" She sensed hesitation and wondered if the antidote had taken effect for him yet. For herself, she felt as though her body were truly alive, thoughts, feelings and sensations all vying for attention. It was a wonder how these ship patients functioned at all.
"I... " He started but stopped suddenly as the sensation of her touching his hand sent his nervous system into a frenzy. Tiny hairs at the base of his neck stood up and his heart rate began to pump harder. His brow furrowed as he tried to understand the feelings. "I, I believe, I feel strange suddenly." It wasn't a very scientific explanation and he knew it. "Um, apply your mouth to mine, like they did, quickly." He puckered up the best he could, looking like a teenager receiving their first kiss.
She tried to shut down the logical center of her brain and just feel. Closing her eyes she moved closer and brushed her lips across his, going by feel and nothing else. Feel and gut instinct. It felt good to be free. Tracing fingertips along his arm she encouraged him to explore with her.
That first brush across his lips had him pushing closer for more, like experiencing iced cream for the first time. He opened wider and pressed forward causing their heads to bump. The sudden jolt forced them to retract before attempting again at a different angle this time. The spikes on his head were tingling in ways they never had before. For balance mostly, he reached up and lay a hand upon her shoulder, gently brushing against her neck. It felt like the temperature in that particular chamber had been increased significantly.
"You feel it as well?" The timbre in her voice had lowered a few notes and took a husky tone. Taking the initiative she gently guided him backwards until his back was flush against the wall. She pressed forward, molding her body against his and continued her exploration, synapses firing intensity.
He was feeling something, both mentally and with his hands. Overthinking, however, was getting the better of him as he thought about her aggressive position. She was on top, pressing him backward, unlike the test subjects where the male was the clear aggressor. He couldn't help but wonder if she had done this before, even in practice and the thinking had him back-pedaling.
But then she touched him in just the right place and suddenly the blood flow in his brain moved to a different location on his body. His first reaction as his urinary member enlarged was, "Owe." It was sudden, like a pinch to a nerve that had never been used before. He wanted to look, but she was exploring again. So, without another thought he positioned his arms upon her body and rotated forcing her over and under, leaving him on top, looking down. Now he had the freedom of movement, of exploration and a view of the female body he had not had before. His eyes were begging her to guide him, and she did.
"Don't think, just feel" She murmured as she caressed his body, pushing his clothing aside to further her exploration. It was a decidedly awkward affair, akin to teenagers making out for the first time. The Intern had been researching in the forbidden archives for years - using an underground access method that had remained true during that time. It was one thing to research, it was another to feel for the first time. She closed her eyes, loosing her mind in the sensations whilst allowing her own hands to roam freely, enjoying the reaction she garnered from his body.
She took the lead, and after a time of exploring all the sensations, her body seemed to have a mind of its own. She flipped them again, enabling her to control the movement and the joining, bringing them together. The movements became rhythmic, natural, not so animalistic as what happened in the chamber earlier. The touching and the feelings took over until a crescendo began to build. The pleasure, the chemicals, everything flowed so freely suddenly.
A short time later they lay in a tangle of limbs, sensation still coursing through their bodies. As her mind slowly came back to the present, she mumbled "That seems to have been a successful experiment, do you concur?"
He was still experiencing the dopamine crash and a returning blood flow to his brain. He could only nod and make a grunting noise. "Uh, huh." He was struggling to move, to think about the experiment. Instead, his mind was on her and how she was feeling after. "Are... are you okay? I didn't hurt you or anything did I?" Suddenly he wanted to show her how much he cared for her, and how far he would go to protect what they had just established, which he didn't even understand yet.
"I feel more alive than I ever have. I struggle to comprehend going back to a life without emotion, without the ebb and flow that comes with it. How could I go back to that way of life having felt all of this?" She implored, relishing in the newness of it all. "This was how our people used to live. It was wild and free and ermmm messy, but it was real"
"Same." He said as he tried to sit up. "I still feel more experimentation is needed and a single question still burns in my mind." He watched as she started to clean up and get dressed. "Why? If it felt this good to naturally attempt conception, why stop? What did the Progenitors fear that caused such a shift in the natural order? Did you find any of that information in your research?" In truth he apparently had lots of questions.
"I believe in the desire to become the efficient and serene society that we have attained, they believed emotion was contra indicated" The Intern snuggled closer, enjoying the feeling of physical contact. "If our experiment is successful, how will you bring it to your supervisors attention? Our traditional gestation is only a week"
At this he sat up suddenly, causing her to fall without his support. "Wait, really?" He then stood and activated his holo matrix, projecting a 3D space in front of himself. He stood there for a minute doing basic calculations. After a minute or two he turned back with an overwhelmed look on his face. "If that is true, if gestation is only a week, it's no wonder they stopped us from multiplying. It makes sense now."
He closed the gap between himself and where she was. "We had an overpopulation problem because our gestation period is so short. Under a natural order of things, we had the potential for up to 50 children a year, not counting duplicates. I mean, I'm sure some stopped long before that, but you've felt how good it feels. It was hard to stop right?" He was on to something, he just knew it.
"So what do we do? How do we stop things from going back the way they were. Or worse yet, how donwe keep our people from extinction now that we know how to avoid it?" It was a double edged sword if every there was one.
He could only shake his head, "I'm not smart enough to have those answers. What I do know is we need to tell someone, someone we can trust. The CSO told me not to tell anyone, like she was trying to cover up the truth." The worry was prevalent upon his face. "There is also the matter of the experiment group. They offered to help. Maybe... I mean they might be smarter... could they have any ideas?" He was grasping at the answers as if they were going to smack him in the face.
She pondered his words for a few moments before consider a response. "If the experiment works, the CSO has to know about it, any scientist worth their accreditation should have an open mind even if they don't like what they see." She paused again. "As for the current subjects, there is the one who appears to be in position of authority, and then there is the one from the red mist experiment and her mate. They would be our best bet"
"Let's start with the CSO. We can gauge our next move based on her reaction. We'll be arriving home soon. If she reacts negatively, we'll still have a chance to talk with the test subjects. If she reacts positively, then we know we are on to something. " He was wary even as he said it. His unfamiliar emotions getting the better of him. "Come one, get dressed." He finished as he tossed her her clothing. "I think the CSO is in the communications room, and the test subjects will be fine. I had the computer deliver another round of sustenance to the test chamber."
The Intern hurried to dress and smooth her appearance back to the impeccable facade that was expected. She grabbed a scanning device on the way out and scanned both of them before leaving. With the barest of smiles she grabbed his hand and they headed for the communications room.
"Enter" the CSO called as the door chime announced the presence of someone waiting to come in. She had just gotten interrupted from her call with the lead Progenitor and was not in the mood for B.S.
