Ramant
Location: Ramant
"Grand Highness, the latest results are not favourable" the planet's Chief Scientist was used to dispensing bad news, but when it came to the impending extinction of their society it was almost impossible. "None survived past implantation"
There was a rumbling around the large ornate room, filled with the planet's top scientists and experts in everything from science to religion.
"It has been ten years since the last live birth on this planet. More and more our people are dying without young." The Grand Highness was grave in her delivery of this statement. "We will be extinct within a generation"
The scientists were well aware of this fact, and had been battling it for years. Yet it seemed everything they tried within their own population had failed. The room was dejected, those within having placed their hopes on this last round of experiments. Increasingly far fetched ideas were being attempted, and many lives had been willingly sacrificed for science.
The room fell quiet until one of the smaller groups found their voice. "What of the space program? Were those too all losses?"
"We have not had the time to check such a far fetched endeavour for some time" the Chief Scientist admitted. "Our efforts with our own population have been all consuming."
The Grand Highness raised her head. "You have reached the limits of science on our planet, yes?" She addressed him directly.
"Yes, Grand Highness. All efforts have been exhausted, but we will come up with something." He quickly added, needing a glimmer of hope.
"This space program, what of it?" She turned to the smaller group dedicated to researching the stars and sending small craft into the universe.
"We...ah....found a Starship, and our crew before they left communication range tagged and seeded the most viable of the species found on board. When we left the development had been positive" He stammered. Everyone in the room stopped and looked. " It was in the report a few cycles ago. I had assumed everyone had read it" he shrugged.
"You will cease your efforts and locate this tagged specimen. If indeed it was successful we need to replicate the experiment on a large scale." The Grand Highness addressed the large science team. "Go. Now. And find this specimen, by whatever means necessary"
"Yes Grand Highness" the Scientist stammered and rose from the table, grabbing the space program director by the collar and dragging him out of the room. "You will tell me EVERYTHING" he snarled as they left. All the could be heard as the doors closed was "it was in the report!"
