Mission:
The Beginning of the End
Location: Bajor
***Lightning crashes a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door
Lightning crashes an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now to the baby down the hall***
It wasn't the traumatic soul wrenching event she had thought it would be, the Prophet still trapped within her, had been unable to escape until her corporeal body ceased to function any longer. It joined her Pagh, the Bajoran version of a soul or spirit, released into the universe. Rhenora had fought hard, and the reward of their child being alive, made being alive worth every second of suffering. Once she heard the cry, the sign that their baby was alive and healthy, she allowed the inevitable to happen. It would be futile to fight any longer, and the outcome would not have changed anything bar for a few minutes. It wasn't giving up, far from it. More an acceptance of the end she knew was near.
Her heart broke for Remal, who was left behind to care for their baby, the new Emissary of Bajor. It broke again for her friends, with whom they had shared so much with. Zio, Kira, Jenna and the fiery Patin. How would they cope? They were strong, determined and passionate. A common trait that had formed bonds between them strong than any other. She felt for Ikar, having sacrificed his own life to allow her the opportunity to deliver their child. Remal didn't know yet, and it would cut him like a knife to know his dear friend was dead.
She dwelt nearby, unwilling to leave just yet, the Prophet not leaving without her.
"It is time" it said simply, its voice unheard to all but her
"I need a minute, I need to say goodbye. I owe them that much" she replied without hesitation. Defiant to the end she would not go without doing what she thought was right.
The Prophet nodded and lingered, allowing the moment, necessary as time itself, seemed to stand still. She saw her body, now still and peaceful, Remal, blessed Remal so wretched with grief he couldn't stand. The child was safely cocooned in blankets within it's bassinet, instinct calling it to look for milk. Kira stood next to Jenna, both shocked until Zio headed to the replicator, programming a tiny portion of milk in a newborn bottle. She returned a moment later and picked up the infant, offering the bottle and nourishing milk. Patin she could see was injured, but seething, her anger palpable and rolling off her like waves.
One by one she touched each of them, not knowing if they felt her presence or not. Saying a few words of comfort. She kissed her baby on the forehead before moving to Remal, placing a hand over his heart. "You can do this, you are stronger than you think. Look after our daughter. I love you"
She felt the Prophet moving closer again, gently prodding that her time was running out.
"The window closes" it said simply before heading upwards and out of the cabin. Torn, Rhenora didn't want to leave but knew she must if the Temple were to accept her.
She gave in to the gentle tug from above, never giving up on her love for her family and friends but unable to stay with them any longer. Her time had come.
***Lightning crashes a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris
Presents the circle
And puts the glory out to hide, hide
Oh now feel it, comin' back again
Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it***
