Snatch and Grab - Knife to a Gun Fight

Mission: Repairs and Retribution
Location: Former DMZ
Timeline: Before the Sunfire entered the Nebula

“Scan that ship for life signs. Now.”

“Yes Legate. Scanning.” A moment passed, “Two life signs detected, one male, one female, both Bajoran.”

“Prepare disruptors. Destroy them.”

“Sir, they are hailing us.”

The Legate stared at the screen in deep contemplation. “Fine, let’s hear their last pleas for mercy and then we’ll blow them out of the stars. On screen.”

The star matted screen was replaced with the face of a middle aged Bajoran man with a fierce look in his eyes. “My name is Remal Kajun and you will tell me where they’ve taken my wife Rhenora Kaylen or else I shall take every last one of you bastards down with me.” His face growled as loud as his voice.

The Legate was not amused, but was intrigued by the names that were so casually dropped. They were familiar now throughout the Cardassian Empire, or what was left of it. There was a price on the Remal’s head. “Is that so? Well. Give us a moment to locate your ‘wife’ and we would be happy to let you be on your way.” The signal was then closed.

The Legate pondered briefly before turning to his security Glin, “Take two teams, I want the male alive.” Then he casually waved his hand, “I care not what you do with the spare.”

Patin looked at Remal, “Well, that went well. You make for some pretty good bait.” She stood, walked over to the table and kicked it over. She then pulled a pair of knives out of her vest and twirled them, one in each hand.

Remal stepped up with a hand phaser, “You’re still planning to bring a knife to a gunfight?” He asked even as he began mentally preparing himself for the pain he was about to endure.

“Makes it, personal.” She said with a twist of her neck cracking it both directions. Just as she shifted her weight to adjust her stance, the sound and lights of a transporter signal appeared across the room in front of them. Six of them.

Before they had even finished beaming in, Patin had released one of her knives. As it landed in the throat of the first of her victims with a thwip, she was already landing a flying tackle into the second, the knife digging deep into the chest plate of her second target.

Remal meanwhile had stunned his first and was under fire from the other two. They had him pinned behind the overturned table with disrupter fire. He wasn’t trying very hard to win after all despite having the element of surprise.

The butt of a rifle landed against Patin’s back. She fell forward then rolled through the pain. Now looking up at the one who had gotten the drop on her, she kicked him in the knee dropping him to the deck. He grunted, “Shoot this Bajoran bitch!” Right before Patin cut his throat with a quick swipe.

The attention was now divided. Two of the three remaining attackers turned and fired in her direction. She took a shot to her right shoulder as she ducked behind a piece of furniture. She was hurting but still alive when she heard Remal surrender right on que. “Enough. Let her live and you can take me.”

She played along, “No, Remal! You can’t. Come on, we can take ‘em.” She hollered knowing he wouldn’t. They weren’t letting their guard down, instead keeping their rifles focused.

Remal stood up, his weapon lowered. “Stand down Patin. We surrender.” This caused the Cardassian guard to move away from Patin’s location over to where Remal was. She could sense the end was coming. They would transport out leaving her to survive on her own. If she was lucky that was.

A fist landed across Remals face, a fraction of what he was about to receive. Then the order was given for four to transport. She was angry, but she stuck to the plan. The Sunfire was nearby and she knew the Cardassians wouldn’t leave the small ship unscathed.

As soon as they were gone, she grabbed up her gear and headed for the escape pods. Her arm stung but she had experienced worse. After launching the first pod, she hurried into the second, and ejected.

The Legate, proud they had something to offer the Mrs. ordered the small ship to be destroyed. “Set course for Kunar, and destroy that toy.”

“Yes sir. Disruptors locked, firing.” It took only one volley to destroy the small ship. The shockwave struck the escape pods knocking them end over end.

And then it was over, the Cardassian ship went to warp leaving Patin with several hours of air in her coffin sized pod. She rolled her eyes as her stomach growled. “It’s going to be a long night.” She said to herself.
