A History Lesson

Posted on Thu Apr 27th, 2023 @ 5:48am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen

Mission: Repairs and Retribution
Location: Cardassian Court
Timeline: 2 Days after the Sunfire crashes.

The Cardassian court sat around the large marble chamber, almost laughing at the absurdly easy task before them. There was no defense, only a statement of facts that the Cardassians themselves had prepared. The witness stand stood empty, the defense section was just as vacant. The Judge presiding, a Glin Mitak, went through the motions for the record in case the pesky Federation stuck there noses in at a later time, knowing the recording would tick all the boxes.

"Do we have anyone from the defense here?" He asked clearly, making a show of looking around the half empty court.

"Those in question were declared missing in action only today your excellence" One of the court officials announced, causing a snicker to roll around the large room before it was quashed.

"Missing in action or not, this court has been convened to pass judgement over the criminals I shall now list. Captain Kaylen Rhenora, Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen" he paused after attempting to get his mouth around this exotic name "and one Lt JG Aurora Vali - mate of lets call him Savar for ease" Glin Mitak started, waiting for the murmours in the room to die down before continuing.

"This relates directly to the events on Orias III, approximately 9 months ago where Gul Maccet was brutally murdered in front of his own men." This caused the desired effort of uproar and jeers from the assembled crowd.

" I have a long documented history of conflict, repeated attacks on Cardassians and Cardassian targets from Kaylen Rhenora, and of course let us not forget that Commander Savar killed our esteemed Gul Maccet in cold blood with his own hands." Another uproar and rumbles of discontent rippled around the room.

" During the Occupation of Bajor" He spat out the word as though it were something distasteful "Kaylen Rhenora murdered many innocent Cardassians in cold blood. Cardassians doing their duty, women and children even, cut down in their prime by this fugative. I have reports of her killing Glin Harcet, Maccet's dear brother with her own hands then watching him die like the cold hearted murderer she is" The judge paused, gaining momentum with this little history lesson he was sharing "Then years later, the Federation sent the Sunfire C to stop a perfectly legal and well documented annexation of the THEN Federation Outpost on the moon of Repu IV. The Cardassian unit defending the outpost was obliterated with no survivors, and the ship - under the command of Glin Maccet, was so badly damaged that it had to be scraped and the crew survive in escape pods. The Sunfire was under the command of Kaylen Rhenora - again using her blood lust against the Cardassians to kill again." He paused for effect as the uproar rolled like a wave through the court for several minutes.

"And finally, when Gul Maccet is sent to negotiate peace with the Federation on Orias III , it sends Kaylen Rhenora again, this time on the USS Liberty, and again she kills. History shows clearly she holds a grudge against us Cardassians unfairly, and has used her power and position to kill as many of us as she could" The judge stopped, unable to be heard over the shouts of "Guilty Guilty!" coming from the floor.

"This court finds her guilty of the murder of many Cardassians and sentences her to death - if she isn't dead already" He added with a sneer. The court erupted in cheers.

"As for Commander Savar - he was the one who took our dear Gul's life himself. No doubt under the orders of his superior officer. And his mate, Aurora, no doubt used her telepathy to assist her husband in his act. I find them both also guilty of murder and sentence them to death" The judge finally stops with a smug expression on his face, clearly enjoying the pandemonium and uproar his words were creating. Without the guilty there to defend themselves there was no challenge to his words - no wanting proof of the so called 'facts' and no rebuttal of any degree from the Federation. "If they are ever found, I sanction every Cardassian to find these criminals and turn them over so they can be promptly processed and punished for their crimes. May whatever deity they believe in have mercy on their black souls" He struck the ancient gavel on the table before him with a flourish. "This court case is concluded". With a swish of his robes he rose and headed out one of the smaller side doors to toast the success with a large glass of Kanar. That had been the easiest trial in his career, and ultimately the most satisfying. Kaylen Rhenora had been a thorn in every Cardassian's side since the occupation of Bajor, and now she would be extracted and squashed like a irritating gnawing insect. Justice would be served.
