Inspection: Engineering

Savar stood outside main engineering PaDD in hand, waiting for Rhenora to arrive so they could begin their inspections of the different departments on the Sunfire. He had even brought two pairs of white gloves in case Rhenora wanted to do a white glove inspection.

Rhenora referred to the padd in her hand before stepping through the doors, her eyes looking for the Chief Engineer in the process.

Savar followed Rhenora into main engineering. A PaDD in his hand as well as his eyes swept the area for any sign of disrepair or unsafe conditions.

Thriss was lying on the ground head first, facing up in a compartment under the warp core, making some adjustments to the connection between the core and the transwarp drive to ensure they had a backup escape plan if things went awry, since the Sunfire was en-route to Cardassian space. The war was over, but there were bound to be Cardassians who hated the Federation.

Nevertheless, because he couldn't see anything outside the compartment, and because he was so into his work, he did not see Rhenora or Savar enter Main Engineering, his home away from home.

Rhenora cast her eyes around looking for Thriss whom she knew would be around somewhere. Instead of looking at eye level, she looked towards the floor, spying an errant pair of legs sticking out from one of the consoles. A brief word to a passing crewman confirmed the theory.

"Chief, got a minute?" She called as she neared the legs.

Savar stood to the side of Rhenora as she addressed the chief. Who was head first inside a compartment and he waited for the chief to reply to the captain addressing him.

This sort of startled the Chief Engineer, and he banged his head and cursed under his breath. He slid out of the compartment and stood up and rubbed his head a little bit before acknowledging Captain Kaylen and Commander Savar. "My apologizes about that sirs. I was working on improving the linkage between the transwarp drive and warp core, since we are going to Cardassian space. The Federation isn't exactly the most welcome there because of the war, so I want to make sure we can have a speedy escape if necessary."

He looked at Rhenora, then Savar, and then back at the Captain. It wasn't every day that the Captain and First Officer appeared in Main Engineering together. "Either way, I do have a few minutes to spare. Is everything alright Captain?"

" Everything's fine Chief, relax" Rhenora smiled, hoping to put the Engineer at ease. " Savar reminded me we are well overdue for our department inspections, so we're here to remedy that little oversight"

The Chief wasn't the biggest fan of inspections, because he was always concerned that higher ranking officers would find all of the little things wrong, or something very wrong. Kla'ren took a light breath. They needed to be done either way. "Understood Captain. Where would you like to begin?"

"Let's start with the warp core shall we? And for the record I appreciate your work on the transwarp linkages. Let's hope it doesn't come to that" there was a warm smile to put everyone at ease. Engineering looked busy but organise, things were in their place and staff were going about their business with a minimum of fuss. So far so good.

Savar looked around engineering, it was bustling with activity, but nothing looked amiss or out of the normal way of operations. A closer look might show differently.

"You're welcome Captain" he smiled lightly and then moved over to a console next to the warp core to bring up a screen with the status of the warp core. It had information such as the current speed of the Sunfire, core temperature, maximum operating speed, with and without emergencies, coolant temp, Etc. Basically anything that anyone could possibly know about the engines at that specific time, it was on that screen.

"All of the basic status should be on this screen Captain. Would you like a visual inspection of the core as well?" Thriss inquired. The status on the screen was one thing, but he also knew that information was more accurate when it was inspected visually.

"I would indeed, please lead the way Chief" Rhenora nodded as they headed out to view the warp core directly. True to form it looked to be operating in peak efficiency. "When were the EPS relays overhauled last?" She asked casually as they moved to another section of Engineering.

Savar followed the captain and chief over to the core. His eyes scouring the area for anything out of the ordinary and there was none.

"The EPS relays were last overhauled on our latest visit to Deep Space Nine, which was just before New Harrington" he answered honestly. "I also have a log the recent overhauls to our systems as well, if you want to take a look at some point Captain?"

"Captain." Savar interjected, "I can look at the log while you and the chief continue on a tour of engineering. I will catch up with you when I am done." Savar answered.

"Thank you Commander" Rhenora replied as she and Thriss continued through to the plasma manifolds and coolant tubes "everything looks to be in ship shape Chief, you should be proud"

"Thank you Captain" he began. "But it isn't just me. My engineers have a large amount to be credited for" The Chief said honestly.

Savar having examined the log rejoined the Captain and Chief. "The log is up to date Captain." He offered to Rhenora before addressing the chief. "Chief when was the last time a manifold pressure test was preformed?"

"Today actually. I believe Ensign Thomas is who performed it" he answered Savar's question.

"Fabulous" Rhenora replied with a smile. "It looks as though everything is in order Chief, I'm very pleased with what you've accomplished here" she said honestly to the Engineer.

The Chief nodded. "Thank you Captain" he turned to face both the Captain and XO. "Is there anything else sirs?"

" I don't think so Chief, you've done a wonderful job - we'll let you get back to your work" Rhenora signed off on the inspection and handed the copy to Kla'ren, another glowing report to add to the previous.

On to their next department.
