A short time later Rhenora and Patin laughed their way into their ‘temporary’ quarters in the habitat ring, a drink or two under their belts and blood still staining their clothes.
“ You should have seen the look on your face!” Patin snorted as her well trained eyes scoured the sparse accommodations for anything else she could drink.
“ It would have echoed yours almost exactly my friend” Rhenora replied with a smirk as she headed for the bathroom to clean up.
Already settled, and cleaned, he had wondered where they had disappeared to. Knowing his wife and the current situation, he was but a minute from contacting station security for help locating she and her overzealous friend. “Well, you look a little worse for wear.” He squinted and sniffed before continuing. “And the drink doesn’t exactly cover the smell, so I can only ask, what happened? Where’ve you been?”
“Chalmers…was less than charming. He jumped us in the shrine. Security ‘got’ him and he’ll probably rot in a holding cell until one of his higher ups busts him loose.” Rhenora explained, looking up in the bathroom mirror to see the darkening bruises.
“Yep,” Patin said as she fell into an armchair diagonally, her leg landing up and over the arm. “Nozzie and I played a little pass the hot Hasperat. Then we decided we deserved a cool down.” She swished a bottle around and took a drink from it. “Turns out, there’s a pretty nice bar here ‘bouts.”
“Hot Hasperat huh. I’m not sure if that’s a euphemism or not. I am glad you’re home safe and judging by the drinking I suppose you’ll be wanting some comfort food?” He had already set the table in his boredom. “Perhaps some hot hasperat with a side of Spring Wine?” The offering held a smidge of jealousy that he had missed out on the action with a side of concern there was action to begin with.
“Now we’re talking” Kaylen re-emerged, having taken a quick sonic shower and replicated new clothes. The attack had rattled her, being a Federation station and all, the Wraiths had people everywhere now it seemed.
“ Real hot hasperat would be amazing” She commented as she settled at the table, the smells wafting from where Remal was making her stomach grumble.
“ Could be worse, could be me cooking” Patin retorted from the armchair with a crazy grin.
Remal and Rhenora, in sync, looked at Patin and said, "Agreed." Then they burst into laughter together. Patin was shocked at first, but then broke down laughing as well. Remal continued the food prep as he considered proposing an idea to Patin. He considered her partially drunken nature before asking.
"So, Patin, Rhen and I were chatting and we would like to propose an offer to you. Seeing as how you've proven yourself as a good friend and protector and as someone who desperately desires purpose."
"Are ya talkin' a three way love? Cause I never thought you'd ask?" She swigged back a drink with a huge devilish grin upon her face.
"Oh my word…" Rhehora's palm found her face, although she should know better than to be shocked. Secluded in the frozen wasteland that Patin had decided to call home, there wouldn't have been much action of the romantic kind. "We can't take you anywhere… except back to apologize."
“S’alright.” She swirled her bottle more as she spoke. “I figured I’d just hand out here, you know, rack up a tab. Gotta make sure they spell my name right though. How’s it go again, K. A. J. U. N. ? “ She was joking but then threw Remal a look. “Seriously though, I’m game for a three way if you are.”
“Actually,” Remal cleared his throat, also not surprised by her partially drunken demeanor. “We thought maybe you’d like to hang around with us for a while. Travel. Maybe get the chance to spread your wings instead of your, eh em, legs.” He finished with a half witted smile.
He was leading up to asking if she wanted to eventually be a Kaimah for the baby, though in her current state perhaps the seriousness of the gesture would be lost. He had little idea of what Rhenora intended to ask of her friend.
Rhenora laughed, whole heartedly at the legs comment, flopping onto the couch as the conversation turned serious.
“ Seriously though Patin, come with us, see the stars, help us help people” She started, hoping that Patin wasn’t too drunk to comprehend what she was actually asking.
Patin looked up, her eyes clouded by the alcohol but slowly clearing. Rhenora rose from the couch and returned a few minutes later with a hypo and a glass of water. “ I need you to be clear on this…ok?” She said firmly as she injected an alcohol neutralising agent into Patin’s bloodstream, and handed her the cold water.
A few moments later Patin indeed seemed infinitely more sober.
Patin gave a glance at her arm then at Nozzie, "wow literal buzzkill. Not cool. Not cool at all." Then she pondered the glass of water and the question while thinking about how she somehow just bypassed the hangover entirely.
"So what you're asking is for me to travel with you into the unknown, inside your battleship or whatever? I won't have to wear one of them monkey suits would I? Because I haven't seen one of you yet to wear them without looking like someone's got their hand shoved up your ass?" She mimicked a puppet in the air momentarily before considering the non alcoholic drink in her hand.
"You are aware of my penchant for blowing things up, right?" She quizzed.
"You're aware you're banned from the torpedo tubes and the armoury, right?" Rhenora echoed Patin's intonation exactly.
"You really are a buzzkill, aren't you?" Patin responded before looking to Remal who was offering her a plate of food. "She hasn't always been like this, you know. Used to be fun. Must have changed when she met you." Patin pointed before taking a bite of Remals cooking.
"Oh no, don't put that on me. Besides, when it comes to causing trouble and getting herself hurt, you're talking to the Queen of destruction right there." Remal pointed and then offered Rhen some warm hasperat, with sorry, not sorry eyes.
“ Who me? I’m completely innocent of all charges…mostly” Kaylen retorted with mock offense as the plate was offered. “ There may however be elements of truth in there” She shrugged and tucked into the most amazing hot meal she’d had in a long time.
There was a companionable silence as they all savoured the hot meal, as usual completely and utterly delicious as was Remal’s usual level of culinary expertise.
“ Now, do you want to come with us? See something new, not live in the cold, and possibly watch our asses as the Wraith try to take us out?” Rhenora offered again as she polished off the last of the Hasperat.
Remal swallowed, "And as an added bonus, we'll make you honorary Kaimah, assuming you're interested in such a thing."
Patins eyes darted from Nozzie to Remal and back again. After a minute of prolonged silence she too swallowed before she spoke, "Does all of his food taste this good? Because if so, I'm in, I'm jealous, but I'm in. So long as I don't have to wear those stuffy pajamas y'all wear." She admitted as she scarfed another bite.
"You'll need to dress appropriately outside of your quarters, and you can dine with us. l would love that, particularly if you wish to have involvement with our child." Rhenora set the ground rules.
Patin looked down at her clothes then to Rhen. She was thinking about the vision she was given of her holding their baby and wondered how much she should tell Nozzie about her own demise. Instead she replied, "oy, what's wrong with my clothing?" Instantly on the defensive albeit a playful one.
"I think she means professional, tasteful and tactful so as not to distract those around you who have jobs to do." Remal added his two cents into the conversation. "Just having you on board may be enough of a distraction for some."
Rhenora couldn’t help but stifle a chuckle at the indignant expression that was displayed prominently on Patin’s face.
“ So… are you in?” There was a minute hesitation in the words.
Patin swallowed, “Kaimah huh?” Then she smiled and raised her wine to the pair in front of her. “I’d be a fool to say no. Besides, someone has to keep the lot of you in line.” Patin said, agreeing to the arrangement. She had no real idea what they were asking of her or what was to be expected traveling the cosmos, but if what she had seen in the Orb were to come to pass, her next three and a half months were going to be an adventure among friends.
