Something untoward this way comes.

Posted on Mon Jan 17th, 2022 @ 10:54pm by Commander Finchley Kerr & Lieutenant Shr'Nesh Karadis & Lieutenant Niali Korial MD

Mission: Paranoia Nebula
Location: Finchley's office/Sickbay
Timeline: Current.

After the staff meeting had finished, Finchley had received the audio and visual recordings from the Captain on the First Contact meeting that had taken place and started reviewing them.

He'd asked Karadis to join him and they each took a look and listen. Going over it a second time, Finchley noted that from time to time, one of the Phobe delegation left the room for a minute or so and returned, each time going to the Chancellor and whisperiing in their ear.

"Karadis, what do you make of it?" Finchley asked.

Karadis watched and replied "Each time that delegate comes back, and he says something to the Chancellor, he glances at Commander Savar."

"Exactly..." Finchley said "It's quick, but none the less, it's only Savar he glances at, not anyone else from the Away Team. I've watched Savar after each time they return, he doesn't look like anythings affecting him, he appears to be his normal self."

He pondered a moment and then said "have you gone over the auditory recording?"

"I just started when you spoke to me" Karadis replied.

"Run a full scan on all frequencies, see if anything unusual comes up" Finchley said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

"Aye Sir, I'll do it now" Karadis replied.

It took a little while, but Karadis eventually looked over at Finchley and said "Sir, you should see this!"

Finchley was out of his sat and over to Karadis desk straight away "What have you got?"

"It took a little searching, but from the audio recording, each time the Phobe delegte returns, there's a change in the high end frequency band" Karadis replied "It's nothing that would be picked up by the Away Team, as in, they wouldn't be aware to audibly hear it in the room, it's way up in the upper width, and the only thing I can compare it to would be something like a carrier wave."

"That's damned odd" Finchley said "I think this is something I need to take to Lieutenant Korial, they may be able to say if it's anything significant.

Karadis singled out the auditory note, and transfered it to a PADD and gave it to Finchley. Leaving his officer, he immediately made his way to Sickbay, looking for the new CMO.

Niali was lying under one of the biobeds trying to reach a bio sensor she had dropped. She was cursing as she tried to reach it. She heard him come in, thinking it was a nurse she spoke. “I just can’t reach this can you get me something long and thin to poke this out.” she lay there then impatiently stated “sooner than later please!”

Finchley looked around and seeing a culture probe, picked it up and proceeded to where he'd heard the voice. Reaching down he said "Hopefully this'll do."

She rolled over and stood, “well it’s about time you……” then she saw whom she was talking too, her face went red. “Ah…I’m sorry Commander but thank you.” She held put her hand, “I didn’t see it was you.” She brushed herself off, “what can I do for you?”

"No need for apologies Doctor Korial, I'm happy to help if I can" Finchley replied, handing over the culture probe. I was hoping to pick your brains over something my Assistant and I came across when we were going over the audio recordings of the First Contact meeting with the Phobe."

"May I?" he asked, pointing to a nearby clear desk.

“Yes, please do Commander.

"Thank you" Finchley replied, setting down the PADD. he began showing Niali what he and Karadis had come across.

"Each time one of the Phobe delegates left the room and returned, they'd approach the Great Chancellor and whisper something in their ear. After going through the audio recording, Karadis noticed there was a change in the high end frequency band width after each return and chat. Nothing appears to happen to our Away Team at the time, however, I'm wondering if this could possible be linked to why Commander Savar has become ill?"

“Are you saying that this might have been something that Vulcans extra sensitive hearing might have heard and caused some kind of reaction, malicious or otherwise?”

"I don't have that kind of knowledge Doctor to be honest, that's why I've brought this to you, in case it may have some kind of baring" Finchley replied "However, it's very strange that no-one else from the Away Team has been affected, only Commander Savar."

Niali studied the information contained in the PADD then went and checked on Commander Savar. He looked supremely relaxed and she wondered what, if anything was going on in his mind. His vital functions were perfect for a Vulcan so there seemed to be nothing physically preventing his return to consciousness.

She was waiting to see Aurora to discuss the possibility of her connecting with him on a mental level. The information she had been given disturbed her, if it was sound frequency based was it malicious and why would it be.

"Well Doctor, I just wanted to pass this on to you in case it was of any significance regarding Commander Savar" Finchley said "If you're happy to follow it up if you think it does that's great. If you don't need me for anything else, I'll return to my office."

Niali looked up, she had forgotten he was there as she lost herself in the report. “Oh, yes…sorry Commander, I will look into it as a matter of urgency and thank you for bringing this to me.” She smiled and returned to the PADD.

Finchley nodded, turned and left Sickbay, heading back to his office.
