Lets Take a Break Part 2

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Lounge
Timeline: Backlog - Current

Bonnie watched Dean masterfully work his grill and wondered how something so big was ever going to fit in her mouth. Instead she maintained her conversation with Avarak, “You should come with me some time. I can think of a number of stories which may stimulate that thinker of yours. Ooh ooh, maybe I’ll introduce you to someone like Maria Merian, who studied the life cycle of butterflies when people still thought they were born from mud.”

“They thought they were born of mud?” Dean turned back around, while still counting the time in his head.

“It was called spontaneous generation, a rather dull subject to most people. But the idea that bugs and insects simply became by emerging from the mud, that’s what interests me. It’s so, so backwards, you know what I mean Avy?” She said with a giggle as she unintentionally nicknamed Avarak.

Dean gave a look for plates a moment, grabbing three. Cutting them in half, the Deanwiches, not the plates. Vertical not angled or horizontal. Putting them on said plates and serving. “Do we want a side with them? I usually don’t, that should be more than enough. Every once in a while I might get a side bowl of small curd cottage cheese with some salt and pepper.”

Avarak’s suppression could only go so far and he could not help himself but raise an eyebrow at ‘Avy’. “Avy?” He responded simply, grabbing his Deanwhich. “I will taste this deanwhich first and inform you if I believe it requires a side.” Said Avarak, turning his attention back to Bonnie.

“Sorry? It just sort of slipped out.” She was sheepish, her cheeks burning. “You don’t mind do you? I didn’t mean anything by it.” She said to Avarak.

“I am not opposed to it, I have just never before been given a, what is it called, nickname?” Avarak responded.

“I’ve had one all my life. I tend to give them out without thinking about them. Just ask Pretty Boy.” She gave a darting look at Dean and sort of motioned with her head in his direction. Then she turned without making eye contact at Dean. “I will never be able to fit this in my mouth, but it looks good. It’s just, soooo big.”

“That is true. I’ve never had one until that one.” Dean smiled, “Sure it will. Just smoosh it a little. I mean you could try to bite into mine.” Considering it was about double.

She looked at him, doubt filling her mind and her face. She picked up the Deanwhich using both of her small hands, smooshed it a bit as he had suggested, then attempted two or three angles before finally getting the corner to fit into her mouth. It was flavourful, despite its large size. She took several moments to chew the one bite before finally swallowing, nodding the whole time. Finally once she swallowed she looked at Dean. “It’s, um, it’s good, really. Can I get a drink, please?”

After careful inspection, trying to discover the best angle of attack on this Deanwhich, Avarak bit down, taking a chunk out of it. “This Deanwhich is…” Avarak paused, contemplating his judgement of this new food. “Satisfactory,” he said. ‘Satisfactory’ being as high a praise as a Vulcan would give.

He’d take it, looking between the two of them. Going ahead and what all could look like dislodging his jaw, even though he didn’t, to take a few bites of his. “Thank you, and you, Avarak. What would you like to drink, Bonnie?”

“Sometin’ st’ong.” She said while chewing another bite, before swallowing. “Wha’dya got?” She asked, knowing full well the replicator could give her just about anything, but she was really curious about what Dean had hidden behind the bar.

“How about…” giving a thought a moment, “Andorian Ale?” Pursing his lips together a little for a moment.

She raised her eyebrow like a Vulcan might, “Really? You have Andorian Ale? That’s almost as bad as having Romulan Ale, which I may or may not be able to confirm if there were any on board.” She smiled briefly before turning that smile into a bit of a giggle.

“That’s the thing, it’s not called Andorian Ale.” Which Dean knew that he could trust them about it. So it was no big problem. “Blue Blossom,” smirking a little bit.

She held out her glass, “Hit me.”

“Intriguing,” said Avarak, matching Bonnie’s eyebrow raise. “I have never had Blue Blossom before.”

Dean pursed his lips, shaking his head. Bonnie should get what he meant. Filling hers up till she said when. Getting a glass for Avarak and starting with about an ounce first. “There you go.”

Avarak picked up the glass and knocked the drink back in one gulp. His eyes widened and he had to let out a cough; the drink did not go down with as much ease as he had anticipated. “That was,” he paused, clearing his throat once more. “Interesting.”

“Sorry. Forgot to mention it’s got a bite.” Dean gave Bonnie a wink. “More, Avarak?”

Hers had been a half glass. She covered it with her hand defensively after seeing Avarak's face pucker. Shaking her head no at Dean, wondering if he was trying to get her drunk. She also looked between the two of them and wondered who would win a drinking contest, an augment or a Vulcan. There wasn't enough alcohol in the universe.

She brought the drink to her lips and sipped. It both burned and was cool at the same time. Made her tongue go a bit numb and before she realized it, her eye was twitching and her mouth too, had puckered.
