Getting Underway

Posted on Mon Jun 21st, 2021 @ 6:58am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Bridge

The next morning Captain Kaylen Rhenora awoke feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day. The Sunfire had remained at all stop near the wormhole during the night as the Engineering crews finalised the repairs. It was a little odd - waking up to the engines at idle and the stars stationary outside her bedroom window.

A shower and breakfast with Remal saw her feel ready to take on the fire caves of Bajor themselves. She had a good feeling about the day, the crew having performed overall well during the brutal combat scenario she had sprung on them the previous day. There was the obvious room for improvement but overall they had performed up to expectation for a untested ship and crew - surpassing expectation even.

After a leisurely breakfast she strolled to the bridge, her gait relaxed and steady after a good nights sleep. She was still a few minute early for the Alpha shift changeover - not that she was required to be present - but a good impression never went astray.

"Captain Rhenora on the bridge!" one of the junior gamma shift officers squeaked as she entered, causing the older Bajoran to raise an eyebrow.

"For the record crewman, Bajoran custom indicates the family name proceeds the birth name." She smiled gently at the young crewman who looked as though a warp core would be a good place to curl up and die in. " But thank you and good morning" She quickly added, trying to ease the discomfort.

"Report" She called for the Gamma shift leader, who rose from her seat and stepped aside to the Captain could take over. " Still at all stop Captain...Kaylen" She quickly corrected herself "Engineering report all systems now show ready"

"Wonderful" The Captain replied with a smile as she slipped into the warm comfortable centre chair "We'll resume our course for our original destination at 0900 hours" She announced, sending a number of taps as the data was entered into the ships computer and prepared for shift handovers. Ronson appeared with a steaming cup of coffee, slipping it into the Captain's hand before disappearing again. She was truly blessed to have him as a Yeoman, his dedication to the ship and crew were heartwarming.

Smiling to herself she sat back and watched as the crew worked, then the Alpha shift came in, murmours as the results of allocated tasks and progress reports were exchanged. Yes, she had missed the quiet activity of exploration. Hopefully they would return to it in earnest soon.
