Assessment of Character

Posted on Wed Jul 22nd, 2026 @ 10:41am by Commander Jennifer Baldric & Commander Dean House & Lieutenant JG Olivia Voight

994 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Pirates!
Location: Brig
Timeline: Backpost.

The trio rematerialised in the brig, there they placed the still stunned Baldric on the hard matrress and restrained her hands, leaving her to be less of a threat when she awoke.

"Brig to Doc Voight, we have a curly one for you"

“Understood,” Olivia replied. “I am on my way.”

The guards waited with weapons drawn even with the force fields up. They were not taking any chances.

"Doc, Command reckons this is an imposter from the mirror universe masquerading as Commander Baldric. We..ah....stunned her as she tried to do a runner" the security officer said candidly.

Olivia nodded slightly. “There are a few ways to double check that,” Olivia replied. “Other than her attempting to run, is there anything else that makes Command staff suspect that this is the mirror version of Commander Baldric?”

"Cos the Bristol apprehended someone in the Badland who apparently is our Baldric, but there's something about a mindmeld gone bad so they may have fried her brain." The security officer shrugged, nodding to the unconscious woman in the brig. "And we have this one.. walks like her, talks like her, but it's all just a little bit off if you know what I mean"

“Looks like I have a challenge of sorts here to deal with this particular version,” Olivia replied. “Guess I better get started in checking her over.”

The security guard nodded and lowered the force field, taking a step forward and charging their weapons should the Mirror Insurgent try anything hinky. The standard protocol would be to compare this version of Baldric against the baseline data they had on file - looking for discrepancies. There would be a few, the Prime Baldric had been pregnant and given birth whilst they were hostage on Ramant, and she would be up to date with all immunisations and vaccines. There would be scars that were different, different bones once broken then healed but always leaving the tell tale signs. Then of course there was Dean, Jennifer's partner, he could tell instantly.

"Also the fact that I've been dating the real one for months, and I can tell the difference." Dean's voice rang out from one of the more distant corners as he stepped out into the light. "We don't need scans to tell the difference. However, of course, Doctor, we do need things documented."

Dean had been there for hours without anyone noticing, just watching the Mirror Jennifer sleep. Well..in her unconscious state. He almost felt sorry for her, not knowing how things were for her over there. Clearly she either liked it, or just at this point went with the flow. She could have been much more.

Olivia carefully stepped into the cell and pulled out her tricorder to do a few scans to have for comparison. “Some scans could possibly show things not visible to the eye, so it always good to have them as a backup plan to work from,” Olivia replied. “Plus, some of the scans can detect anything abnormal with certain medical history depending on what is being checked for in the scans.

"Wake her up when you're done so we can ship her back to the Starbase" the security guard continued.

Physically unharmed bar some bruising from rough handling, the stimulant injected into her bloodstream worked rapidly, slamming her mind back to full consciousness within seconds.

Her first instinct was to run, her second was to fight. She succeeded only in rolling off the bunk and hitting the floor hand with her knees, hands still retrained in front of her.

"What the hell... where am I?" She asked, eyes wide with confusion.

"The same place you were last time, on the Sunfire. Except obviously your venue has changed." Dean moved closer to the brig cell and held up a device she should recognize. "And we found your little toys."

“You have your hands full with this one Commander,” Olivia said.

"What are you talking about?" Baldric looked up as Olivia as the doc left the cell and the forcefield went up again.

"Your sabotages you were trying to set up on the ship. You should have logged into Jennifer's logs and gotten a better outlook on who you were dealing with. You are a terrible actor." Dean mentioned.

"There wasn't time, the whole thing was a balls up. The intel they gave me was wrong. I mean it didn't say ANYTHING about being in a relationship with you, let alone anything else." MU Baldric stammered, her eyes still wild and looking desperately for an escape.

“At least I can compare the scan information that I just got with what is in the medical records for our version,” Olivia replied.

"Your version is probably spilling her guts in some agonizing booth, if she's still alive " Jennifer went to sit on the bunk " those things are horribly efficient at breaking people."

"And that is how you got caught. Obviously, I will be fair enough to you, that if the roles were reversed I wouldn't have known and there wouldn't have been any information to go off of except." Dean paused a moment, "I'd have sent one person to gather intel a head of time. However, you all just want nothing but conquest and power as fast as you can."

He also knew what this Jennifer was probably trying to do. He wasn't going to take the bait. His Jennifer more than likely had been put in one of those horrid things, Dean was almost positive of it. He also knew her better than that.

" I didn't want to be sent to this Godforsaken hellhole with rules and regulations and uniforms that feel like they're trying to strangle you. If was either that or die. I'm sure you would have done the same" MU Baldric said indignantly, stomping her foot like a put out child.

Suffice it to say the difference in behaviour between this and the Prime Baldric was stark.
