Moving On Pt 1

Posted on Mon Jun 7th, 2021 @ 3:55am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Remal Kajun

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Captains Quarters - USS Liberty
Timeline: Before the Sunfire Leaves

Leaving Bonnie in her quarters, in a safe place, curled up tight still in her uniform, he headed back to the lounge where he bid good-night to Doge. The Bajoran party would disembark the next morning into a new life that awaited them. It would be a whole different sort of world they were going home to. Much different than what they had left. But he was sure someone more qualified than he would help them into their new world.

Captain Kaylen Rhenora looked around the quarters she shared with her husband, then at the boxes she had already placed on the floor. The shrine was packed, her work desk was packed but she had no idea how to tackle the kitchen. Come to think of it - did Remal even know they were moving yet? Surely Savar had recalled the crew and sent out the comms but it would take time for everyone to be up to speed.

He entered, his somber tone one of empathic sorrow for his little friend, immediately turned to surprise to find everything they owned packed into boxes. He eyed the boxes, then eyed his bride. “An odd way to clean house, but I[‘m glad you finally put that tush to good use.” He teased. “I take it one of us is moving out?”

“You haven’t heard the news?” She asked innocently, forgetting that she was the Captain and therefore privy to most news before anyone else. Savar would be working through the comms in due time. “We’re transferring to the Sunfire, we’re going home, well.. Not to Bajor but you know what I mean.”

He moved over to the bed, now stark and devoid of personalized arrangements. “I was hoping for a moment that we were moving to Bajor. But a different ship might be nice. Is it that one, there?” He asked while pointing out the window at the compact cruiser docked just across the way.

“ It is indeed, she’s a heavy escort so a little smaller than the Liberty, but I’m sure we’ll make do.” Rhenora observed their new hope at the opposite upper docking pylon. She was a little battered and a little worn, but she would be tried and true with all the character of a ship that had been around for a few years.

Even sitting on the bed, his half height still rivaled her full height. He wrapped his hands around her waist and pulled her a little closer. "Heavy escort huh? So she's got teeth and can take a pounding?"

He then looked her dead in the eyes, "And here I thought our fighting days lay more in our past than our future."

"It sounds like Command had other ideas, and I must admit I'm not complaining. We get to go home to the Sunfire but remain as a family. Besides, after the losses of the war, experienced hands and cool heads are few and far between" she admitted, shrugging her shoulders a little. "I'm hoping it's more 'protecting the peace' than anything else."

"Now you're just trying to appeal to my inner child. Protecting peace and helping the innocent is what I enjoy most about serving Starfleet." He let out a puff of air. "I take it our quarters will be smaller like on the previous boat?"

"It gives us the opportunity to make a difference." She agreed before thinking on the second part of his comment "smaller, but not ridiculously so. There are still some perks to being the boss. Bedroom, bathroom, lounge, workspace and I believe we can make a kitchenette if we steal a little space from a storage locker." She admitted honestly. " We can make it work."

Growing smug he added, "I'm sure as the 'boss' you can make dreams a reality. What about a second bedroom for the nursery?" He questioned earnestly.

"For the first few months a bassinet in our bedroom would work, but we will need more space. I'm sure Thriss could realign a bulkhead or two down the track" the reality of the situation was starting to sink in. Life would be a little more dangerous, a little closer quarters and most likely a little less peaceful. She still hoped for the best.

He couldn't control his smile, "So while I promise to move the proverbial mountain, you're over here literally moving bulkheads to make our lives better. Maybe that's why I love you the way I do."

“Mountains and bulkheads, there’s a difference?” She quipped as she flashed him a smile.
“That's why we work so well together”

Playfully he pulled her closer, “Oh is that why? I thought it was my easy going, laid back, patient nature and my ability to listen.” He smiled even as he saw the brief fire flash within her bright eyes.

“All of the above? And not to mention easy on the eye” She smirked as she leaned into him, loving him as much as the moment she had first laid eyes on him.

“Now I know you’re lying.” He said just before their lips met in embrace. He allowed the moisture to saturate his dry lips and then his lips to part and his tongue to escape. His heart thumped and his mind raced towards a playful moment; where he clasped his hands around her waist, twisted and in one swift movement he tossed her upon the bed with an ‘eep’ and a giggle before hovering over her playfully.

“ Oh really now?” She squealed as she attempted to wriggle out, only to find herself trapped. There was a niggle in the back of her mind that threatened to kill the moment, the relentless list of things she had to get done before they launched tomorrow. “ Help me pack, then we may have time later.”
