Mission:
For Bajor!
Location: Runabout - Enroute to Bajor
Bonnie watched as a pair of technicians loaded the second emitter array into the Runabout, her mind still racing through the ideas in her head. She spotted Dean, his cane sword in hand and she decided now would be a good time to confess. She slid over to where he was standing.
"It was your idea, you know. The whole ripping the cables out and crosswireing them. I kept thinking about what my counterpart had as tools in her arsenal versus what I had. Turns out, she doesn't have a friend like you who causes her to do stupid emotional things like fry themselves in order to stop their enemy."
Dean's head tilted to the side a little bit, "My idea? All I did was by you time when I threw the sword. You did this yourself and stopped it."
"Maybe." She shrugged. "But without your influence I probably would have done something, predictable, smart even. Instead, I went with my gut, like you often do. It worked didn't it?" She added when she saw the look on his face.
"Alrighty. I owe Kira more than a case of spring wine and the promise of never having to deal with the mirror universe again. You guys better be right about this" Baldric entered the Shuttlebay and headed to wear the team were setting up.
"Yes, it certainly worked." His head gave a nod. Giving a side glance when he felt Jennifer come into the bay.
Kit was busy ensuring the emitter arrays were being placed properly and running diagnostics on them as the techs went about their business. She overheard Bonnie and Dean talking, she smiled ~Yes I chose correctly in bringing my daughter to this 'Family'. We may be crazy, but we take care of ours.~
The techs were loading the extra power capacitors onto the Runabout when one of them tripped on the ramp. Concerned, Bonnie jumped to assist, "Please be careful, these capacitors are fully charged and I can speak from experience that no one wants to feel the pain if one of these should discharge." She chuckled, "It would be very shocking."
As they finished loading the gear Bonnie thought to ask Jennifer, "Will it just be the four of us Commander?" Her question was geared out of concern for who would be piloting.
Kit finished ensuring all the components were loaded and passed their diagnostics. She perked up when she heard Bonnie ask if it would just be the four of them, "Hey if it is, can I try flying this bad boy?" She inquired.
"Its just us. Given the nature of this particular jaunt, i felt a minimum exposure necessary...in case there are repercussions" Baldric replied as she gied down the gear and settled up from next to Kit. "Sure you wanna drive? Kira mentioned the aft engine has been being hinky"
Kit smiled, “Let’s fire this bad boy up. Got my certifications when I was on hiatus from the Sunfire, besides getting married and pregnant, and I have been itching to get into the pilot seat.”
Bonnie stepped into the Runabout and moved into the cabin where she found her Engineering seat waiting for her. She was unfamiliar if Kit had her pilots license and was thinking it would be funny if they had invited Coy, just in case they ran into the Mirror Coy again. Even funnier if they didn't tell her first. With a concealed grin upon her face, she logged into the console and waited for them to lift off before divulging her plans.
Baldric say in the co-pilot seat, being an accomplished pilot herself. She was happy to let Kit take the controls as it would allow her to make her own judgements on the Orion's pilotting skills.
"Everyone ready? Lets go stop those mirror bastards before they cause any more chaos" Baldric glanced around the cabin of the runabout.
Kit did a quick glance at the controls and began lighting up the shuttle. Satisfied everything was in the green she whispered a quick prayer in Orion. =^=DS9 Ganges requesting permission to disembark.=^=
There came an immediate response =^=Ganges permission granted.=^=
Kit smiled and eased the Ganges away from DS9. “Okay folks we are on our way, please ensure all seatbelts are buckled and flight trays are in the upward position and secure.”
Once the Runabout was well beyond DS9's gravitational orbit, Bonnie turned and cleared her throat.
“Okay, uh, quick version, because we’re about to do something kinda stupid but also kinda genius. The gate’s basically stabilized by this harmonic tether that’s drinking juice straight outta Bajor’s ionosphere, right? Normally that’d fry the planet if we simply turned it off, so instead of melting everything, we’re gonna, um, flip it. Counter-phase it."
"I'll rig the phased emitter array to kick out an inverse standing wave, same frequency, one-eighty out of phase. Boom, tether collapses, corridor folds, no kaboom. We just need to sync the rig through the patched sensor pod using the phased dampener, and then couple it to a gravitic null with the micro-gravitic coil ring. That’s Kit, she'll need to hold position, as best as she can." Bonnie flashed a smile at Kit.
"Once we’re lined up, we drop a nanosecond-gated inversion pulse through a micro-singularity containment loop, tiny, tiny gravity ring, eats the leftovers, then we dump the residue into the shuttle’s capacitors. I’ll run a ten-second sim before we pop it; if it says planetary variance over three percent, we do not press the big red button. Plan B manual node collapse, surgical burn only. No planet flambé today."
Easy, right? Um… right?” She exhaled and looked from one blank face to another, her own face becoming pale.
“Layman’s terms? We hum the right note at the right time, and the monster folds itself back into the dark. We just have to sing in perfect tune.” She checked her readout, speaking softer now. “My Papa used to say...‘The difference between breaking a thing and mending it is how well you listen while you work.’”
Kit smiled at Bonnie’s explanation of about what they were about to attempt. She liked how she left the part out that if they did it wrong, Bajor would lose its ionosphere, they would be vaporized into particles so small it would take the strongest sensors to even detect them, oh and the merging of two universes minimum.
Kit smiled, "then Bonnie I encourage you to belt out the best tune you ever have, as I have no desire to see what the Thousand Gods have in store for me in the afterlife. Plus I am sure the Bajoran government and people, as well as Starfleet and the Federation as a whole would prefer not to be merged with the mirror universe.”
Sheepishly and now nervous, Bonnie replied, "It'll at least be quick." She then frowned, "Not that that is going to happen, right? I mean there could be some bleed through, no... I mean we'll do our best, right, yes." She finished. "I, I'm going to run some more simulations to make certain."
Baldric listened to the concept and the execution of the plan, getting thoroughly bamboozled at the technical aspects but trusting Bonnie enough that it would work. "You came up with that yourself? You, my girl, have an amazing mind" Jen said fondly to Bonnie as they neared Bajor. "But for the record, just tell me what I need to do so we dont stew the Captain and her planet."
Bonnie’s cheeks went the color of fresh wine at Baldric’s praise, a bashful grin tugging her lips sideways. “Thanks, ma’am. I mean, uh, yes, ma’am. Mostly it's just math and caffeine,” she said, half-laughing as she rubbed the back of her neck. Then, shifting to the console, her tone sobered, eyes narrowing as telemetry streamed across her display.
“Thing is, if someone took down that satellite, odds are they’ll try to do the same to us. Maybe even...” she hesitated, her voice lowering, “...maybe even my Mirror double. She’d know how to counter everything I, er, we just built.”
Her fingers drummed on the edge of the console, a nervous rhythm matching the pulse of the shuttle’s hum. “So while Kit and I handle the counter-phase loop and reverse the portal’s flow, someone’s gonna need to keep us safe. That means you and Dean get to be the heroes while I try not to accidentally fold Bajor into origami.”
She looked up then, meeting Baldric’s eyes with a flicker of unease beneath her grin. “And, uh... just so we’re all clear... what’s the endgame here? Are we capturing whoever’s behind this… or just forcing them back through the hole they crawled out of?”
"How about we ask the Captain?" Baldric suggested, powering up the medium distance comms array and sending a signal to the away team on the planet. The Captain answered after a few moments and gave them an update as to their progress, causing Baldric's strategic mind to kick into high gear. "We found a gateway to the mirror universe, tied into to the planet's pole... Bonnie's about to do some creative destruction and hopefully not stir fry the planet's atmosphere in the process."
"You can bet that Dane and his goonies will be heading back there to lick their wounds. Optimal scenario, we send them back to the hell they came from and seal the gateway, if it's possible." Rhenora replied, her voice sounding stronger now they had a plan in place. " We have two shuttles, very basic shuttles mind you, but we can be over the pole in 10 minutes."
Baldric turned to Bonnie "That work for you?"
"That, um, that works." Bonnie replied, her brain already in motion. Having extra hands on deck meant they wouldn't have to face this enemy alone. Her only unasked question was, who was Dane? "That makes four." She said mostly to herself.
She looked at the star chart, and added, "Kit should be able to get us to the pole in 10-ish, right Kit?"
Kit smiled as she listened to Bonnie, ever the optimist, she knew the science behind the theory. It would be a difficult task if there wasn't an opposing side. Hearing Bonnie's question Kit looked at the console in front of her and did some quick math. "Yes, give or take a few seconds, unless we encounter something else on the way there."
"Don't jinx us" Baldric snorted as they skimmed towards Bajor. For a few simple malfunctions, this had most certainly turned into a doozy of a mission. Her gut clenched as she realised how close they had all come to dying, and how now they could ensure these bastards never hurt anyone in her universe again. She would take this 'Dane' down herself if it came to it.
