Medical Logistics

Posted on Fri Jun 10th, 2022 @ 5:10pm by Lieutenant Anna S. Thesia M.D.

Mission: New Harrington
Location: sickbay / New Harrington

"I'm trying to talk to someone who can tell me what the situation on the..." Anna paused, sighing in exasperation as the connection was once again put on hold. There was so much chaos on New Harrington that she had spent the past fifteen minutes on the line with them and so far only found out that apparently nobody had the resources or the clearance to find out much of anything. Typical. Once the fit hits the shan, everyone seems to lose their heads.

Another face flashed onto the screen. This time it was a Trill in his mid-forties, from the looks of things. But with Trill, one never knew. "Lieutenant Thesia?" he asked.

"Yes. Do not put me on hold, or transfer me", Anna started out. "Just answer some questions to the best of your ability, okay?"

"We're somewhat pressed for resources on our communications array at the moment", the man responded.

"And I understand you're also somewhat pressed for medical resources, and I'm coming in with the resources of an Akira class starship at my back, wanting to know what it is you need most so I can start replicating things."

"Ah, I see", he said. "My aide said something about a press corps... never mind. We have enough medical supplies down here, our hospitals are working and we have enough emergency power to replicate all the medicines and supplies we need."

"That's not as bad as I thought then", Anna smiled. "I'm glad to know not everything is as chaotic as things appear in the administration."

"We're having trouble getting patients to the hospitals", he continued. "Severe weather is impacting communications on the ground, and transporters are dodgy as well, not to mention their power requirements to try to get a pattern lock through storms."

"I'm a doctor, not an engineer. I have no idea how bad that is. But I can relay that information to our engineering department if you like", Anna said.

"That would help a lot, actually", he nodded. "Look, what we need most is logistics support. You're coming in with an Akira? That's actually perfect." He knew the Akira class had a lot of small craft and a large hangar, meant to support fighter operations, but able to coordinate medevacs as well. "We could really use your shuttles and their pilots to help us reach those areas hit the worst, and to transport the wounded out of there. We'll need help building temporary shelters for those who have lost their homes, until we can get the weather system back under control and build new houses."

Anna nodded. "We can certainly help with those relief efforts, yes", she agreed. "I shall put teams together. The more information about affected areas and estimated numbers of wounded you can give us, the better we'll be able to put these resources to use when we get there."

He nodded. "I've got a situation report right here..." He tapped a few buttons on his console. "This is as current as it'll be for a while, we're having trouble actually getting anything more from the affected areas."

Anna nodded. "That'll do, we'll have to figure out the rest on the ground. I just don't want to send the shuttles somewhere only to find that everyone's already been evacuated." They should not be wasting time on this, it was frustrating enough that it took starships so long to reach the planet in the first place. Anna hoped Starfleet was going to send other vessels as well, and quickly. Even if they could fix the weather control systems immediately, there were still months of work rebuilding and resettling everyone ahead of them.

"Thank you, Lieutenant", he said. "Be sure to call me directly if you need anything else. I'd much rather do this than talk to the bloody press about a situation we don't even have the slightest idea for a cause yet."

"Our engineers will do what they can", Anna said. "Maybe we'll see something from orbit that you can't detect from down there."

"We hope so." He nodded. "I'll be in touch with any further developments."
