Quack quack quack Mr. Ducksworth

Posted on Thu Sep 1st, 2022 @ 11:13am by Commander Dean House & Lieutenant Anna S. Thesia M.D.

Mission: New Harrington
Location: Corridor
Timeline: Backlog - Change of ship

On her way to her cabin, Anna stepped out of the lift and almost bumped into Dean. "Oh, hi", she greeted, smiling. "Hey, I remember you. Made it here from the Liberty as well? Have you heard? The duck is back."

Dean gave Anna a little smile, "Yes I did. I also can see that since the Duck is standing right in front of me in the flesh."

"How have things been holding up in my time away?" Anna asked. "You've got your ear on the pulse of the crew, no?"

"Things have been alright, for the most part. It depends on who you ask." He gave a little shrug, "Perhaps a little bit I do, yes. I was the Executive Officer for a bit."

"Better you than me", Anna responded. "What's with the downgrade to an Akira class, though? Sickbay is so small all of a sudden."

"I don't completely remember all the details, or I wasn't given them. Which is possible. It was basically a mutual agreement of each command team wanting their or original ships back." Dean waved his hand a little, "or something like that. We pack more of a punch though, particularly with this new 'toy' I came up with that Bonnie helped with me on.

"Do I look like someone who enjoys punches to you?" Anna retorted, somewhat annoyed at this observation. "Toys are benign objects used to have fun, they're not meant to cause harm."

"It's simply an expression, it's for the ship. You know as well as I do even though we're supposed to be peaceful. There are those times however, Doctor."

"Yes, those times that make me work overtime", Anna grumbled. "But it matters not. Akira or Sovereign, they both feel like warships. Gone are the days that Starfleet was mostly on a peaceful footing. Maybe they can return, now that the major wars seem to be over."

Dean gave a bit of a frown, "I don't think that will completely ever happen at this point."

"Why do you think there will not be another peaceful era for the Federation at hand?" Anna asked. "The Dominion is not going to pose a threat for the foreseeable future, at least a couple of centuries, depending on whether they choose to send an attack fleet against us through conventional space, and all the other major powers are either too weak or not interested in conquest. We could be looking at another golden age of peaceful exploration and diplomacy here. The only ones we'll have to worry about in the long run are the Borg. Even the Romulans are turning friendlier."

"There is always a peaceful lul before the the storm. Always, Doctor. History has proved that so many times. It may not be next month, or for decades, but it will happen."

"I prefer not to be this cynical", Anna said. "Especially if it's many decades in the future, because then it'll be someone else's problem."

Dean gave a little bit of a shrug. "You don't have to be that cynical just to tell a possible future. Considering there are infinite outcomes and futures."

Anna nodded. "This is true. I just prefer to think of the fun ones, rather than the dreary. You know, stir up some madness and watch the world go nuts.. but in a good-natured way, of course."

"That would be preferable." Dean gave a stretch, "I think though I'm needed else where for the moment. If you'll excuse me. Perhaps we can talk again about these theories." Giving her upper arm a light pat as he moved past her.
