Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: DS9
Timeline: Current

Captain Kira Nerys had returned to Ops after the counsellor had arrived at the Temple and began talking to the confused man she had met there. Several hours later said counsellor reported back to Kira, meeting with her in the Captain's office.

" We believe his name is Joran, he seems to be experiencing post traumatic stress and is suffering from some short to medium term memory loss. We made some progress and I have referred him to Dr Bashir in the Infirmary to make his analysis. Initially though I believe his illness to be psychological" The counsellor explained. " He seems lost - in more ways than one. He has no purpose, no identity."

Kira mused for a while, sipping the luke warm raktajino on her desk as she thought. She could use an aide, someone to do the menial duties of prioritising reports, directing comm traffic, even cleaning etc.

"Is he capable to working under instruction? Basic tasks I mean?" She asked after a long pause.

" I believe so, just go gently on him until he finds his feet" The counsellor nodded then excused herself from the office.

Joran stormed out of the Medical Bay, shouting "No Doctor, you don't get to poke and prod me, there's nothing medically wrong with me, and the Counsellor had no bloody right referring me to you without my consent or asking me if I thought it would help!"

He stormed back towards the temple, and marched inside right up to the picture of the orb again whispering "I will bide my time."

A quiet word from the cleric and the counsellor was again present, trying to sooth whatever was troubling Joran's mind. " Dr Bashir was just trying to help in case there was a physiological reason for your memory loss" She soothed, "Now tell me.. why are you drawn to this image?"

Joran didn't turn round, but answered "You had no right sending me there without my consent Counsellor, that was a betrayal of my trust. As for the image, I hear it speaking to me, it tells me I'm safe here."

"I was merely attending to your physical health as well as your mental health" The counsellor replied, unruffled. She was used to some patient's having outbursts as they worked through their trauma. " Why do you think it's telling you that you are safe here?" She challenged. "The station is far from a safe location"

"That's dependent on your outlook Counsellor" Joran replied "I'm close by the Prophets, therefor I'm safe here in this sanctuary. Besides, I need something to focus on...to help me find myself and a purpose I can have here on the station" he finished.

The counsellor mused over that response. Religion was a powerful force when one had faith. Arguing the logical side was pointless. "And you know this how?" She challenged gently.

"Because my belief is strong and absolute Counsellor" Joran replied "No doubt much the same as your belief in doing your duty is a strong draw for you, no doubt the reason your doing what your doing, it's no different. However, as I say, my beliefs aside, I need something that also has a purpose for me here on this station, otherwise, what do I do?" he finished.

The counsellor paused again before replying. "What do you recall yourself doing before all this? Were you a a pilot, a tradesman? "

"I was in the Militia Counsellor, I did many things" Joran replied "much of it mundane, like compiling reports, making sure supplies were kept up and doing guard duties. Is there a reason for asking?"

The counsellor cocked her head and gave a wry smile "Captain Kira mentioned she could use an aide, someone to help with her calender, reports and general duties. It may help you remember over time." She offered.

"I...don't know what to say" Joran answered, sounding honest, though inside he was very happy at the offer, it could help with his end game.

"I've only just met the Captain, however, if you both think this could help me, perhaps it's worth a try" he said.

" It seems the opportunity has presented itself at a beneficial time" The Counsellor replied with a smile " Shall I organise it with the Captain? In the meantime I have assigned some quarters for you, would you like to see them?"

Joran was pleasantly surprised and immediately replied "That's very kind of you Counsellor, yes, I'd like that very much, please" he ended, offering for her to lead the way.

The guest quarters were located in the outer ring of the station, just up the corridors from Kira's. The Counsellor had made the arrangements herself - hoping the familiarity and closeness of the station commander would bring ease to her patient.

" Here they are, they're yours until we can confirm you actual identity and you officially become part of the workforce here" she explained.

"Thank you Counsellor, this is honestly appreciated" Joran replied "Please tell the Captain I'm at her disposal and can meet when it's most convenient for her."
