Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Quarks, DS9.
Timeline: Backlog - Current

~Previously~

Dean watched and knew it was just a program. That didn't make it any less concerting. It didn't show however. Shaking his head a little but Bugs was the boss after all. "Yeah. I got it." Picking Jasper up and tossing him over his shoulder. Heading down outside and throwing him into the next cab that he flagged down. Giving the instructions. Coming back in and up.

~Now~

[Capones hotel]

The cab stopped outside the hotel and the driver signaled for the two well dressed men on either side of the revolving door to come down to him. One did, and after a brief discussion with the driver, opened the door to the back of the cab, looked in, and then quickly turned and gestured for the other to come down. When he did, the two reached inside and pulled Jasper out the back and took him upstairs into the hotel and sent word to their boss on what they'd seen. Minutes later, Scarface himself, Al Capone, came down to the foyer. Seeing the state of Jasper he looked angry, but didn't yell or show much outward anger except to throw his hands in the air. Seeing the envelope in Jaspers top pocket, he took it out, saw his name on the front so opened it and read the content.

Once he was done reading, he looked at one of the men who'd brought Jasper inside, saying "Get him to the hospital, make sure he gets the best of treatment...understand, the very best!"

"Absolutely Mr Capone, right away" the hood answered.

Capone turned to his right and saw his consigliere, "Franco, this was done by that shmuck Moran, he says this is just the start of the payback for me killing his men."

"Sounds like he's pissed at you" Franco replied "should we double your guards Mr Capone?"

Capone thought for a moment, then replied "No, not here, but maybe beef it up when I'm out and about, just in case."

"Yes Sir" Franco answered as he watched his boss pass him by and head upstairs to his personal suite again.

[Bugs Moran Office]

"Right, that should be enough time for the cab to get to Capones place and for them to see their man in bits" Bugs said. Turning to Finchley and Dean he said "We've been watching Capone's movements the last few weeks, and he's a creature of habit when it comes to bestowing his benevolence on the local community. Today's Wednesday, so he'll be at his soup kitchen on South State Street. This is a map..." he said, reaching into an open drawer of the table he was standing at. Spreading it out on the table, he showed Finchley and Dean the route he would take later that day, adding "...and there's a couple of places his bodyguards aren't to close to him, or the cars have to slow down. These are a couple of alternatives, any questions?" he asked, looking between Finchley and Dean.

"Not particularly, Boss. Though, I think I have an idea. Why don't we wait and plant, well, us, in the soup kitchen ahead of time for a week, so next Wednesday we'll be planted in there already and make it so much easier to get him." Dean thought it was a good idea at least.

Bugs thought for a moment, then nodded, saying "A good idea Brick, though taking out the slimy bastard sooner would've been my preference. Right, you and Tommy here get yourselves planted in the soup kitchen. You'll have to work out a way you can these guns in, and before you say it, I want you using the Tommy guns, not hand guns, I want this to be a statement to everybody that no-one, especially Capone, fucks with Bugs Moran and gets away with it. Once you have the plan, you make sure you let me know what it is, I'll have to make sure we have a few alternative get away's for you."

Dean waited for them to be dismissed and then leave the room with Finchley. Where they could discuss the how between themselves before one of them going back to to tell the Boss what they've decided on.

Turning to him, "So I figure we could actually get a cook and dishwasher out of there, doesn't matter how we do it. Wait a day, and then 'see' the help wanted sign in the window and go apply for the jobs. Since usually those are the last two people to leave, we can get the guns in when the back door is open for the trash to be taken out."

"Ok, we take out the cook and the dishwasher" Finchley replied, "some of Bugs muscle can do that, it's easy enough done. I hope you're a good cook, cause I'm a lousy one, but I can get the dishes done fast enough."

"Funny you should say that, I'm actually a pretty good cook. Well if I say so myself anyway. I think this will work."

"Right, let's get this done then" Finchley said to Dean, then he added "Computer, skip scene three days, open scene at the Al Capone's soup kitchen on South State Street, Chicago."

The scene shimmered and they now fund themselves standing outside the soup kitchen as asked. Seeing the 'cook and dishwasher wanted' sign, Finchley said "Right, let's get hired."

Once inside, Finchley managed to get to speak to the woman in charge and persuaded her that he and Dean were perfect for the jobs, and she eventually agreed to hire them.

Thanking the lady very much for her kindness, Finchley asked if he and Dean could have a look around to 'familiarise' themselves with everything, to which she agreed.

Turning to Dean, Finchley said "Right, we're in, we start tomorrow, have a look around, see what plan you can create to get the guns in here. I know you mentioned about when someone took the garbage out, but let's have a backup plan just in case that isn't viable. Meanwhile, I'll speak to the boss here and find out if Capone's due in here before Wednesday."

Dean wasn't expecting that change, but it was fine. It did speed up the boring parts and leg work. "Hmm. I actually.." Giving a smirk, "I know exactly how." Giving a move to look about regardless. Since he was going to have to actually cooks and make it look good.

"How?" Finchley asked simply.

"The frozen food delivery. We can just use one of our trucks to do it, or take over the truck and put them in there. So when that comes in and everything is put into the freezer, there they. No one inspects those boxes until something is needed."

"Let's hope Mrs Hacker, the manageress, doesn't decide she wants a look inside them before tomorrow then" Finchley replied "Capone's due in around midday so we best be ready."

Dean gave a nod, "I hope so also. Probably won't if it's veggies. I know she'll inspect the meats."

"I'll telephone Mario, make sure the meat trucks met and the appropriate changes are made before it arrives here" Finchley said, picking up the call box receiver and putting a nickel in. He dialled a number and after a hushed conversation, put the hand set back in the cradle, turned to Dean and said "that's it all set up, Mario and the boys will stop the meat truck, dump the driver somewhere, hide the guns in the truck order, and have one of our men drive the truck here. In the meantime, it looks like we have enough meat and vegetables to begin at least one meal. Let's see what culinary delight you can cook up with what's already here."

He simply listened for the mom, then to what Finchley said. "Sounds good. I think we've got the plan set." There was a raise of Dean's eyebrow. "Ohhh..you want me to cook for you right now. Hmm...lets see...How about, a butter and thime, garlic baseted filet mignon."

"Sounds great" Finchley replied.

Time went by and after a few hours there was a sound of a lorry horn being beeped. Finchley opened the back door and saw that the delivery truck was there. A thumbs up from the driver indicated that all was set, ready to go. Walking back inside, Finchley called out to Dean "The truck's here with the special delivery."

"Got it," he went to go give a check to make sure no one was particularly about for the moment, because that would cause a need for a distraction.

Stepping back outside, Finchley began helping unload the boxes and as he did he asked the driver "Which ones?"

"The two at the back on the right" the driver replied.

Ten minutes later all the boxes were off the truck and had been taken inside the soup kitchen, all that is except the final two special boxes, those were at Finchley's feet.

Turning to Dean he said "Make sure these two marked in some way so we don't get them mixed up,"

"I think I have a pretty good idea what to mark it with," Dean pulled the pencil out of his sleeve and put the Starfleet emblem on the both of them. "How about that," grinning.

Turning back to the truck driver, he took the order sheet, signed it and handed it back saying "Tell them it's tomorrow around twelve noon."

The truck driver nodded but didn't reply, he just got back in the truck and drove off without a backwards glance. Going back inside, Finchley walked over to Dean and said "There's not much we can do just now, can you quickly check the guns are ok, then we'll call it a night. It's a big day tomorrow, and we have to make sure we're ready. By the way, when I phoned earlier, I was told that once we were done here we have to make our way to East Seventy Second Street and our boys will be there to collect us and get us out."

"Over there? Not to far I suppose." Dean gave a nod and went back. Making sure the door was closed, since it did have the double open system. Getting each one out. Giving them a good once over and then a second once over. Stashing them back like they needed to be. Coming back out, "All good."

"Computer, move the programme forward to Eleven fifty the next morning" Finchley said.

The images around them shimmered and it was the following morning.

Finchley looked at his watch, then at Dean "Right, ten minutes then Capone arrives, is everything in place?"

"Should still be, I checked after the transition. You know..no telling what kinks might be thrown in."

"True" Finchley replied "I suggest you stay back here till I give you the sign, then come out with the guns and we'll take care of business.

Time counted down, five minutes, four, three, two then one. Being as he had now moved out from the kitchen to the main eating area, Finchley got a bit of a fright when suddenly the doors to the soup kitchen opened and in walked one of Capone's heavies. A surly looking guy, barrel chested, square jawed and with hands like shovels. Looking around for a long time, he was eventually satisfied that all was good so turned to look back outside and nodded. Moments later, in walked the man himself...Alphonse Capone, 'Scarface'!

Looking rather jovial, he walked over and met Mrs Hacker saying "Mrs Hacker, good to see you again, how are things here, do you have everything you need?"

"Mr Capone" Mrs Hacker replied in kind "thanks to your generosity everything is fine, our stocks are good and we're ready to go."

Capone took off his overcoat and handed it to one of his aides, then rolled up his sleeves and said "Ok, let's get to it then Mrs Hacker, let's get those people who are poor and unfortunately down on their luck, some food!"

Mrs Hacker agreed and went to the back of the room and through the kitchen doors. As they closed, Finchley looked at Capone, his mouth slightly open.

Capone looked at him and said "Are you alright fella, you look like you've seen a ghost!"

Finchley blinked a couple of times and said "No..I'm...that is to say, sorry Mr Capone, I'm fine, I didn't mean to stare."

Capone stared at Finchley for a long moment, and Finchley began tensing, so looked away.

Capone broke into a smile, then laughed and said "That's fine, I was just messin' with ya!"

Finchley gave a half hearted laugh and tried to look more relaxed "That was a good one Sir, you really had me going."

"Right, let's get some action goin' here, Angelo, go and see if Mrs Hacker needs a hand with anything" Capone ordered.

"Sure thing boss" Angelo replied and began walking towards the back of the soup kitchen. He reached the doors and pushing them open before him began to walk through them. Suddenly there was a loud bang and the back of Angelo's head blew out splattering blood, brains and cerebral bone widely. Angelo fell where he was, his body twitching, and stepping over his body was Mrs Hacker, a revolver in her hand.

Finchley reacted instantly shouting "DEAN, NOW!!!"

That was certainly an interesting turn of events. Dean had just stayed out of the way mostly when the goon came in. Still cooking orders. It was amusing to see Capone. Even if it was just a hologram. There was the whole nostalgia of it all at least.

Waiting until the thug had left, so he could go look like he was going to get a box from the freezer. Which. Actually, he kind of was. Setting it down just in time to see Hacker pull the trigger. "That was definitely unexpected. Shit!" Pulling the box open and grabbing out one of the thompsons. Setting it down quickly. The other he grabbed and lifted it up between the service window.

Dean shouldn't have to say anything that the gun was there for him. The start of gunfire would say that. Oddly enough his aim was off. He didn't manage to his Capone. Got 'Tiny' next to him. Three times in the chest. That wasn't going to look pretty.

The front windows also hit in the spray, shattering. The patrons there were left, not many since the place was always cleared out for Al, scattered. The other goons flipped two tables. One to use for cover and the other to hide Capone behind while fire was returned.

Dean ducked down, the steel window was more than enough cover, other than the open service slot.

"Dean, slide the other gun across the floor to me!" Finchley called.

Dean had kind of intended on Finchley getting in there to pick it up from the counter. Obviously the situation had changed. Reaching up from his crouched position and feeling for it. Setting the gun down he gave it a good shove to slide it over.

The gun reach him and Finchley picked it up instantly. Trying to balance it, it was awkward feeling with the hand/trigger grip and using the drum as the grip, he manoeuvred himself to try and get a good shot. Seeing a chance, he half rose and tried a short burst but it was to high and simply tore chunks out of the wall above where Capone and his goons were.

"Damn it!" Finchley cursed.

At this point, the goon behind one of the overturned tables stood up and fired a sustained burst at Finchley, causing him to crouch even lower than he was already. Then a single shot rang out and the goon fell forward with a grunt. Looking round as best he could, Finchley saw Mrs Hacker step forward.

"Capone you weasel, this is for my husband, the one you murdered!" she shouted and emptied the remainder of her revolver towards the table where Capone and his remaining goon were hiding. A few seconds passed and nothing happened, then the goon stood up and aimed his gun at Mrs Hacker as he said "It wasn't Mr Capone who shot your husband, it was me!" and he fired a hail of bullets from his own gun.

Mrs Hacker's body wracked, as if she was doing some kind of mad dance, as the bullets slammed into her and she was thrown back several feet into the kitchen area, she was dead before she hit the floor.

"NOOOOOOO!" Finchley cried, standing up and firing a hail of bullets at the goon. The goon in turn flailed his arms and the gun flew out of his hand as blood sprayed from the bullet wounds he received. Eventually he fell backwards onto the floor.

Finchley was about to race forward and finish Capone off when the doors to the soup kitchen flew open and two more goons came rushing in. Once headed directly for Capone, firing his Tommy gun from the hip, the other fired over Finchley's head in the direction of Dean.

"Son of a bitch!" Waiting until there was a click and then Dean popped up and shot through the service slot. Unloading most of the drum. Again things were being shattered, split apart. The goon shooting at him just turned into a bloody rag doll as he was riddled with bullet. Tearing the holographic body completely a part.

The goon that went to get Capone almost bodily picked his boss up off the floor and manhandled him back towards the soup kitchen door and out.

After a few seconds there was a screech of rubber on tarmac and Capones car took off at high speed. It was over, they'd failed to get Capone, but they'd got close. Finchley walked back into the kitchen to where Dean was and said "We've got to get out of here and over to East Seventy Second Street, let's go!"

"Yeah, yeah. We're done, and the coppers will be here in a minute." Dean motioned to make sure they were set and heading for the back door.

As they exited the building, police car sirens could be heard in the background heading towards the soup kitchen. It didn't take long for them to make it to the rendezvous point with their get away car on East Seventy Second Street, and once inside, their car sped off.

At that moment, the scenario finished, it was time to leave the holodeck to get back to the ship.
