Common Ground

Posted on Tue Aug 10th, 2021 @ 4:18am by Commander Dean House & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: XO's Ready Room
Timeline: TBD

Savar sat in his office going over some reports and generally taking care of ship's business. However a single thought nagged at him and that thought was Lt. Dean House or more precisely the Lieutenant's attitude. He had thought on the Lieutenant's attitude but could arrive at no logical explanation for it. The Lieutenant was arrogant to be sure but it wasn't that alone. Other elements bothered him. Sighing he tapped his combadge, perhaps and hopefully by talking to Mr. House, they could clear the air and forma solid working relationship. "Mr. House, report to the Executive Officers Ready Room.'

There could have been a number of different things that could be about, so Dean wasn't holding any thoughts one way or another as to what this one was. He knew he hadn't actually done anything wrong. Hadn't called Savar 'Mister Vulcan.' The little part was all in good fun, so shouldn't be that.

Giving a shrug to himself, he replied that he was on his way, and headed as such. Pressing the chime once he was there.

Hearing the chime, signifying someone (possibly Lt. House) was at his door, Savar straightened his tunic and sat even straighter in his chair as he called out "Enter."

Which this time, it was Dean. Stepping in once he was permitted. Looking to Savar and giving a nod. At least going to attention. "You wished to see me, Commander."

Savar gazed at the man a moment before replying, "I did Lieutenant, take a seat." He offered gesturing to the pair of chairs in front of his desk.

Either or really didn't matter. Dean just took the closest one and sat.

"Lieutenant, as you know a bridge crew needs to work as a unit. With each member having trust in the others. However despite your experience I have difficulty in understanding your attitude, which is why I called you here to better understand it and you." Savar said calmly.

"We do work as a unit, and I trust you all. Or I thought we worked as a unit.."

"We do Mr. House. However I feel there is room for improvement if I am better able to understand your attitude. It would prevent any future misunderstandings." Savar replied placidly.

"It might help, to be honest, Commander, if you asked me more specific questions."

If Savar was offended by House's statement he didn't show it. Instead he replied coolly unruffled. "I am always honest Mr. House, to what are you referring to?"

Dean gave a little sigh, "You wanted to understand as you put it, my attitude, sir. I won't know specifically if you don't ask."

"Yes, I see your point. Very well, what is the purpose of your flippancy?" Savar asked.

"There's not any real flippancy or lack of respect, sir. I'm not as closed like some. Humor can sometimes help things. I don't know that when the job has to be done, I don't do it or crunch time, not been respectful."

"I see. So you are trying to inject humor into an otherwise tense situation? Interesting." Savar answered. "Does this also pertain to you calling me Mr. Vulcan?"

"Sometimes it can loosen the tension in the air, yes. If appropriately done at the right time. Not everyone finds it useful." Raising an eyebrow a little bit about the Mister Vulcan. "Probably misplaced. Well it was since you hate it. Also we've not known each other long enough for a nickname. Or even term of endearment. So maybe a little."

"Correction, I do not hate it. I am unaccustomed to it. However now that I understand it was meant not in a derogatory way, I will endeavor to be more understanding if I hear it again." Savar replied.

"I did also say I would stop doing so because it bugged you, sir."

"So you did, Mr. House. I will leave the decision to you. As I want to have the best relationship I can with everyone especially the bridge crew even if it is strictly professional."

Dean took a little breath a moment, "Alright. Well I am fine with that. What else, Commander?"

"Nothing else at this time. Mr. House. I thank you for your explanation and I will see you on the bridge." Savar replied in his trademark cool way..

"Alright, Mister Savar. I'm glad we could clear some of that up." Standing.
