Making up For Lost Time. {Backpost}

Posted on Tue Jun 29th, 2021 @ 12:35pm by Lieutenant Alison Haldeman & Lieutenant Thomas Haldeman

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: Tom and Alie's Quarters
Timeline: Backpost during DS9 shoreleave

The family had returned home from DS9 where a good time had been had by all. Alie and Mandy got some new clothes and Mandy also got some new holovids and Tom got to watch and enjoy their happiness. Later he and Alie had a nice dinner aboard the station and now they were back in their quarters. Mandy had gone to the holodeck to try out one of her new vids leaving Tom and Alie alone.

Seated on the couch, Tom suddenly stood up and held his arms out for Alie to join him in the middle of the room. When she did, he spoke to her, "May I have this dance?"

Allison grinned as she nodded and stood taking her husband’s hand. “You may by all means my love.”

As they began to move and sway, Tom spoke again. "Computer play It's Been a Long, Long Time." As the music filled their quarters Tom began to sing.

Kiss me once
Then, kiss me twice
Then, kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time

Haven't felt like this, my dear
Since can't remember when
It's been a long, long time

You'll never know
How many dreams I dream about you
Or just how empty they all seem without you

So, kiss me once
Then, kiss me twice
Kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time.

Allison enjoyed hearing her husband sing, he had a pretty good voice. When the song finished she kissed him once, twice, and once again, just as his song had requested.

Tom chuckled as Alie him then he kissed her back softly. "You know, I've never stopped loving you Alie, never. Even when you hated me." He said very quietly.

“To be honest, I never stopped loving you either.” Allison smiled. “I guess it just got clouded over for a while, but now those clouds are gone for good.”

Tom didn't answer, there was no need to dwell on the past no matter how painful it was. It was time to move forward as husband and wife, as a family. He hugged Alie tighter, then bent forward and kissed her deeply as they continued their slow dance.

Allison was enjoying their dance “Tom would you like to renew our wedding vows? After everything that’s happened I’d like to make my vows to you again.”

"I think that is an exceptional idea Alie. I'm all for it." Tom replied as they danced.

“Wonderful” Allison smiled warmly. “Let’s speak with the Captain and see if she’ll officiate.”

'Certainly Alie. We just need to find a time she is free to talk." Tom pointed out.

“Of course” Allison nodded. “This feels like home now Tom, a chance to be a proper family again. I’m just glad we’ve been given this chance.”

"It is home Alie. I won't lie I want to be a captain again but I'm in no rush to leave here either."

Allison nodded. “Then we take each day as it comes, maybe one day Starfleet will see fit to give you a ship again.”

"I call that good thinking Alie. Command thinking in fact and that is exactly what we will do." Tom replied with a smile.

Allison grinned. “Command thinking huh? I’m glad to be just a Lieutenant, I’ll work my way up to command but not for a few years yet.”

"Yes, Command thinking and don't be too sure about that Alie." Tom said with a smile.

“I’m not like you in that respect Tom, I’m not worried about command. I’m happier being where I am.”

Tom leaned back and looked at her, "So, I'm wrong for wanting to be a Captain again?"

“Heavens No! Not at all” Allison offered an apologetic look. “I was talking about me, not you. My aspirations aren’t grand I know, but I have our children to raise alongside everything else.”

"I'm sorry Alie. I guess I'm touchier than I thought over not only losing the Manchester but my captain's pips as well." Tom offered.

“It’s okay, I understand” Allison offered a smile. “In your place I’d feel the same. In those years we were stuck on that planet I got to see things from a different perspective, I love what I do but for me my family comes first.”

"You and Mandy come first for me as well Alie. It's just I worked hard to earn my Captain pips and then to have them taken away and demoted. It hurts." Tom said honestly.

“I’m not saying it doesn’t my love.” Allison smiled as she looked into Thomas’ eyes. “I hate to see you unhappy, I just want to make you happy again.”

"I'm not unhappy with you Alie." Tom replied as he held Alie. "It's alright. I'll be fine." He assured her.

Allison nodded and smiled. “Okay Tom, I love you, you know that.”

"And I love you Alie and yes I know that. Time to get on with the rest of our lives."
