T'Lar's quarters
3 hours following the party at the Pip and a Half club
T'Lar was in a deep sleep when suddenly she was awakened by a loud cracking noise. Starting from her sleep she told the computer to turn on the lights as she looked around for the source of the sound. T'Lar was familiar with the phenomenon known as "exploding head" syndrome where people sometimes were awakened by loud noises that were caused by misfiring neurons in the brain, but she'd never experienced it herself. Just as she was about to convince herself that that explanation was most likely the correct one she heard it again, coming from the direction of the shelf where she kept Brian's Vre-katra.
Getting out of bed she went over to the obsidian bust of her late fiance' and was shocked to see it riddled with fissures. She went to touch it and it crumbled into dozens of shards.
"No, no, no..." She cried.
And then she saw him. Brian Kernan, her dead fiance' standing there in her quarters still bloodied and wearing his torn and burned cadet uniform; staring at her, trying to breathe with ragged breaths.
"Brian!" her brain screamed but no words came out of her mouth.
"T'Lar, baby you have to let me go... I can't stay trapped in this ... thing. I need to move on to what's next."
She wanted to run to him, to hold him but she couldn't move.
"I don't know how to release you..." she finally managed.
Brian tried to smile, wincing,
"Its all a matter of intention and perspective... For example, you are seeing me like this because this is where you are stuck. You need to feel the pain yes, but let it go and move on with your life baby. Remember the good times. Remember me as I was, not just the worst day of our lives together. Then set your intention to letting me go free. It's really that easy. When you are at peace, I can be at peace."
T'Lar thought long and hard to find a happier memory of Brian and suddenly his form began to change into that memory.
"Ohhhhh... Oh Brian I've missed you so much... can I hold you?"
"If you want to you can." He smiled and held out his arms
Suddenly her feet could move and she was in his arms, her face buried in his shoulder with copious sobs wracking her body.
"We don't have much time. I came to tell you to take me home."
"To Earth?"
"To my parents place in Truckee. Take the bust and give it to them. But when you do make sure that you set your intention to release me before you leave."
"But the Vre-katra is broken..."
Suddenly T'Lar started awake. She was laying in bed in her darkened room, alone. She got up quickly and had the computer turn on the lights so that she could inspect Brian's Vre-katra. It was intact just as it had been before she'd gone to bed. It had been a dream, just a dream. And yet she felt that what had transpired was more than just a dream. That somehow Brian had actually appeared to her. All of her guilt and anguish began to slip away as she felt a new purpose arise within her to honor this last request he was making of her. It may not have been logical, or rational, but it was imperative to her that she listen to the vision she'd been given.
