Medical Mayhem

Posted on Thu Oct 13th, 2022 @ 3:10am by Lieutenant Sarah Wilson

Mission: Planet of the Dinosaurs
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Just after the crash

Dr Sarah Wilson HAD been having a relatively cruisy day. The routine bumps and bruises from people going about their business with a little less care than normal, the routine checkups, physicals and the like, and one surgery booked for later this afternoon for a knee replacement. All in all a good day was being had. That was until the lights went out, and the deck decided that being still and level wasn't on it's things to do today. Sarah Wilson had been around a while, she knew what an uncontrolled freefall felt like and this was a little to similar to that feeling for her comfort levels.

As things turned from bad to worse it got really hot, so hot the sweat trickled down her spine under her uniform if she were conscious enough to feel for it. Her entire attention was focused on staying on her feet and assisting those around her. From the first bump on their rapid descent the injuries began making their way to sickbay. At first the walking wounded, broken arms, bumps and bruises, head injuries - nothing too terrible. It would be after their hit the dirt and people were able to start moving around would they find those that were in desperate need of medical care. Already her mind was focussing on the future. Shuttle bays 1 and 2 would be triage centers, the holodecks would be surgical and intensive care wards, the corridors would serve as a waiting room.

With a almighty heave the Sunfire came to rest on an angle, the deck tilting up and to the right making things just that little bit more difficult. The floor would have to do as beds - there wasn't anywhere near enough of them anyway. The medical team were her first priority as she picked herself up from the bulkhead that had rapidly made it's way to great her body, heaving the biobed that had fallen across her midsection out of the way in order to move. Treat those that could treat others first - it was macabre, but necessary. Quickly she assessed her team, providing treatment and getting them back on their feet as the doors to sickbay were levered open and a proverbial river of patient's flooded in.

"Karsis and Part, take Rojan and head to the lower decks where the injuries will be worse, triage as you go and treat according to our emergency protocols." Sarah said quickly as she assisted an ensign with a gaping chest wound onto the floor so she could be treated. There needed to be medical teams on the move to assist those that couldn't be moved, even if it left her short staffed. Somehow she knew that for the next day or so being short staffed was going to be the least of her concerns.
